    SPIRITUALISM, HISTORY, AND THE GREAT AWAKENINGS Delaney E. Lauderback Golden Gate Spiritualist Church, San Francisco History is not history, unless it is the Truth - Abraham Lincoln Two periods in American history are known as Great Awakenings. The First began during the mid-eighteenth century, the Second in the early nineteenth century. The Great Awakenings are said to be times of widespread sectarian religious awakening and spiritual reaffirmation. The evangelism of charismatic, itinerant preachers spread a gentler, more hopeful spirituality through the Protestant religions of the U. S., lessening somewhat the dark grip of Calvinist predestination.1 The most radical form of religious revivalism was practiced in Western New York, where the great revivals of 1830 – 1831, held in Rochester, are said to have brought the Second Great Awakening to a close. This area of New York was described as a "seedbed for religious enthusiasms."2 The Second Great Awakening "inspired a great movement for social reform."3 This much contemporary and twentieth century American history reports. History does not report that the Second Great Awakening continued from 1831 through the next two decades, culminating in the explosion of contact with the Spirit world that began in late 1849 - early 1850. Contact with the Spirit world quickly encompassed millions of Americans and continued at this level through most of the rest of the nineteenth century.4 Known as Modern Spiritualism, the entire, "massive popular movement"5 has been excluded from American history with but few exceptions. While this is an historical paper, it does examine certain aspects of some religions from an historical perspective.

    Volume 22, número 1: 2017 Iron Maiden: História, Música e Imagem Fábio Antunes Vieira1 Resumo: Durante a Guerra Fria, em meio aos tumultuados anos da década de 1970, surgiu na Inglaterra a banda de heavy metal Iron Maiden. Apesar do preconceito acerca deste estilo musical, a banda, reconhecida pela qualidade sonora, bem como por letras inquietantes que, não raro, têm as guerras, angustias humanas e a religião como abordagens corriqueiras, não tardou à obter notoriedade do público e destaque da mídia, sobretudo a partir dos primeiros anos do inquietante governo de Margaret Thatcher. Assim, a proposta deste artigo consiste em abordar alguns aspectos que contribuíram para tanto, particularmente no que tange a forte vinculação da banda com a História, além da exploração do seu personagem mais notório, o Eddie. Para tanto, considerando sua extensa discografia, embora os aspectos históricos de algumas músicas venham a ser destacados, as que serão tomadas como objetos principais de análises são Sanctuary (de 1980) e The Number of de Beast (de 1982), visto a significativa aceitação do público e apelo midiático, que garantiram ao Iron Maiden expressão mundial. Este trabalho tem como objetivo, colocar uma banda de rock como uma empresa. A metodologia utilizada se caracteriza como pesquisa documental com respaldo de pesquisa bibliográfica. A intenção deste estudo é analisar e identificar as estratégias de marketing utilizadas pela banda Iron Maiden e entender como uma banda de heavy metal com mais de 30 anos de carreira ainda se mantém no mercado musical, fazendo muito sucesso e mobilizando milhares de fãs por onde quer que passem.
