We had a huge amount of fun with the set list * for this Maiden England Tour when we opened in North America last year as we got to play songs we had not played in a very long time like “Seventh Son,” “The Prisoner” and “Afraid To Shoot Strangers,” as well as fan favourites like “The Trooper,” “Aces High,” “The Clairvoyant,” “The Number Of The Beast,” “Wasted Years” and “Run To The Hills.” That opening leg of the tour was so enjoyable for the whole band, we’re really looking forward to coming back to see our fans again and a lot of new faces too! ” The MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR marks the third chapter in the History of Iron Maiden, a journey which began in 2004 with The Early Days DVD and subsequent 2005 Early Days Tour. Part Two followed in 2008 with the Live After Death DVD and the band embarking on their ground-breaking Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008/9, which saw them play to over two million fans in almost 40 countries flying between shows on five continents on their customised Boeing 757, named Ed Force One, piloted by vocalist Bruce Dickinson and covered in full by the DVD Flight 666 . Now MAIDEN ENGLAND sees the band recreate the stage show of the 1988 Seventh Son Tour and playing many songs from that legendary tour and the 1989 concert VHS video titled “Maiden England,” which lends its name to this tour and was released as a double-disc DVD, Maiden England ’88 , for the first time ever on March 26, 2013, debuting at #1 on the SoundScan DVD chart in the USA and also #1 in Canada. Widely considered one of the most important and influential rock acts of all time, IRON MAIDEN have sold almost 90 million albums worldwide, played over 2000 live performances across 58 countries around the globe, and released 15 studio albums including the most recent, The Final Frontier , their biggest ever album chart success attaining No.1 positions in over 28 countries. *North American 2012 set list: “Moonchild,” “Can I Play With Madness,” “The Prisoner,” “2 Minutes To Midnight,” “Afraid To Shoot Strangers,” “The Trooper,” “The Number Of The Beast,” “Phantom Of The Opera,” “Run To The Hills,” “Wasted Years,” “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son,” “The Clairvoyant,” “Fear Of The Dark,” “Iron Maiden,” “Aces High,” “The Evil That Men Do,” “Running Free.” Iron Maiden continues to be actively dedicated to ensuring their fans always have full access to the best possible tickets in the fairest possible way. Manager Rod Smallwood Comments: “We are trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want in the prime positions without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. Maiden get infuriated with the way fans sometimes have to pay more than the ticket price to get good positions at our shows. So we will, wherever possible, with the assistance of the Promoters, arrange a paperless ticketing system at least for the front sections to try to eliminate as much of the ticket scalping and exchanges as we can. We put this into practice on our North American Tour in 2010 and also last year; it worked well and we received many positive comments back from our fans, so we intend to increase this where feasible. With paperless ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided (please see the comments from Ticketmaster below). We are also doing everything we can to avoid any drain of prime tickets going to the Secondary Ticketing sites which we feel make unfair profits from music fans. As we consider all our fans to be VIPs, no tickets will be held specifically for VIP use. At some venues, the Promoter may provide the option for fans to pay extra for “VIP Parking”, early access, access to “VIP Bar” etc. But these will be purely optional for ticket holders only and will not be tied to ticket locations – the ability to get the best tickets should be the same for everybody outside of the usual presales. Finally, we are of course once again arranging exclusive ticket pre-sales for our fan club members so they can be quick off the mark for great tickets and will also continue to run the draw in appropriate venues for fan club members so they can be ‘First To The Barrier’ prior to the show. We hope that these measures will help our fans as much as possible and ask that they keep checking for details on our website.” Ticketmaster Comments : Where possible the North American Iron Maiden shows will operate a paperless ticket policy. Select tickets will be sold via Ticketmaster’s Paperless Ticket delivery , which means fans will not receive a physical concert ticket for their entry into the event. Buying paperless helps ensure fans have secure and convenient access to event tickets at the intended original sale price. On the day of show, concert goers just need to bring the credit card they used for the ticket purchase and a government-issued photo ID to the concert. All members of the ticket purchaser's party must be present at the same time to enter the venue. The venue’s ticket usher will swipe their credit card upon entry and present each person in their party with seat locator slips for quick access into the show. To purchase paperless tickets or for more information, fans should visit www.ticketmaster.com/paperless or call the Ticketmaster charge-by-phone number at 1-800-745-3000. "It sure has been a long time since we rock’n’rolled in the UK and Europe“, so Drummer Charlie Benante. "But we’re coming back soon to bring the noise to all of you guys. Being that we can’t get over there until 2022, we’re going to make sure that every show will be an eventful one. We won’t just be playing four decades of songs to celebrate our ongoing 40th anniversary - hey, we’ll be giving YOU some history! - but we just might have some brand new ones for you as well. Can’t wait to see all your happy, smiling faces!!!".

PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • Harpernonfiction to Publish Rock Legend, Iron Maiden's
HARPERNONFICTION TO PUBLISH ROCK LEGEND, IRON MAIDEN’S BRUCE DICKINSON THIS AUTUMN FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 26th July 2017 This Autumn HarperNonFiction are publishing What Does This Button Do?, the hugely anticipated memoir from Iron Maiden frontman and rock legend, Bruce Dickinson. Heavy metal pioneers since their formation in 1975, Iron Maiden have sold over 90 million albums and played over 2000 shows in 63 countries, making them one of the most successful and globally influential bands of all time. One of the world’s most storied musicians, Bruce Dickinson has been the band’s internationally- acclaimed lead singer for more than 30 years, and quite aside from the decades spent delivering high- octane performances with his larger-than-life persona, Bruce has lived an extraordinary off-stage existence too. A true polymath, Bruce is, or has been, an airline pilot and captain, an aviation entrepreneur, a beer brewer, motivational speaker, film scriptwriter, twice-published novelist, radio presenter, TV actor and a world-class fencer. Over the last couple of years, and throughout Iron Maiden’s The Book Of Souls World Tour, which has covered 39 countries and 117 shows since February 2016, Bruce has turned his unbridled creativity to writing his memoirs, longhand (in seven A4 notebooks no less). In What Does This Button Do?, Bruce (a man who famously never gives interviews about his personal life) shares, for the first time, the most fascinating recollections, including his thirty years with Maiden, the early days, his childhood within the eccentric British school system, going solo, realising his dream of flying jumbo jets and his recent battle with tongue cancer.

Prior to joining that band Dickinson enjoyed stardom with Samson, while his post-Maiden solo career has brought much critical success. • Iron Maiden – Live After Death DVD Review by Michael Makuch 3/9/08
Iron Maiden – Live After Death DVD Review By Michael Makuch 3/9/08 I just purchased a blast from the past in the form of Iron Maiden’s “Live After Death” DVD. For the first time in over 20 years this live show documents Maiden’s seminal Powerslave Tour. I used to have a VHS copy many years ago and I haven’t seen the show for many years so it is a treat to be able to own this treasure of a concert film in a high quality DVD format. In fact, this is the first time this concert has been available in any format since it was originally released in the mid 80’s. “Live After Death” is a 2 DVD set and is affordably priced at around $15. The first disc is the original concert while disc 2 contains documentaries, rare live footage, a picture gallery and two promo videos from the Powerslave album. The set beautifully reproduces the graphics and contains a decent booklet, which is a rarity in most DVD packages. We’ve all come a long way from the time I found a busted cassette of “Live After Death” (no doubt tossed from a car in a fit of disgust with regard to the thin tape used in ‘double length’ single cassettes and their ability to bind easily with in-dash cassette players), that needed some reconstructive work that required a risky tape transplant to another tape body and razor sharp splicing to resurrect the music contained therein, to the point where I now possess said concert on CD audio and, now, DVD video formats I couldn’t have conceived of in the old days! The music itself, of course, is timeless.

  • We Were Just a Metal Band, and Then We Also Became Educators»
«We were just a metal band, and then we also became educators» En studie av hvordan metallbandet Sabaton fremstiller fortiden, intensjonene deres og hvordan lytterne reagerer Christian Fredrik Ask Masteroppgave i historie Institutt for arkeologi, historie, kultur- og religionsvitenskap UNIVERSITET I BERGEN Våren 2021 Abstract Title: “We were just a metal band, and then we also became educators”: A study on how the metal band Sabaton portray the past, their intentions for doing so and how their listeners respond. This thesis is a study on how the Swedish metal band Sabaton conveys the past in their music, their intentions and messaging in their songs, and how listeners respond to this. This is done by analysing a selection of their songs based on three different separated themes, by using Philippe Carrard’s “minimalistic narratives” term to find out what story is conveyed by the lyrics, and what kind of moral or political message can be interpreted from it. The band’s intentions are interpreted by analysing statements made by the band’s frontmen, Joakim Brodén and Pär Sundström. The response of the listeners is gathered by analysing comment sections on YouTube videos of both official and unofficial videos of the band’s music. In general, Sabaton portray the past to entertain their listeners. Their intentions for doing so are largely commercial. For the listeners, Sabaton’s music fulfils other uses for historical functions than just entertainment: it has existential, scientific, legitimising and identity- creating functions. Sabaton’s music allows the listeners to immerse themselves in the past. i Forord I mange år har jeg kunne betegnet meg selv som to ting: «metalhead» og «historienerd».

  • Jenna Miller 2/22/12 Megadeth Megadeth Has Been A
Jenna Miller 2/22/12 Megadeth Megadeth has been a very popular thrash metal band for over 20 years. The bands, like most others, have gone through many conflicts. Unlike other bands though, Megadeth has stayed strong since the 80’s and has impacted the heavy metal culture. Megadeth has successfully released thirteen albums, which attracted both underground and mainstream fans. They also have accompanied what popular trends into their songs, which resulted in keeping the band steady and popular throughout the years. The start of the band was back in the 1980’s, where Dave Mustaine (lead singer and guitarist) joined the band Metallica in 1982. Mustaine had a drug and alcohol addiction which made him difficult to get along with. In March of 1983, his constant disagreements with vocalist, James Hetfield, caused him to get kicked out. In the summer, Mustaine meets bassist David Ellefson, and they form Megadeth with guitarist Greg Handevidt and drummer Dijon Carruthers. Because of the unorganized nature of the band and constant bickering between band members, the lineup has constantly changed throughout the years. Many believe Mustaine’s drug and alcohol addiction is to blame for this because of his constant highs and lows in his mood. The only two members, Dave Mustaine and Dave Ellefson, were in Megadeth when the band first started and are still currently in the 2012 line up. Megadeth's first three gigs where February 15th, 18th, and 19th, of 1984. In May of 1985, Megadeth’s first album, “Killing is My Business…And Business is Good!” was released.
