The brilliant Greek orator of Athenian Golden Age Thucydides has rightly observed, “What you leave behind is not what is engraved on stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others” Ten years ago, the foundation of the Central University of Tamilnadu was laid on 30.9.2009. Today, it has blossomed as a premier university, renowned for its significant contributions in Teaching, Research and Extension. On this happy occasion of the completion of Ten Years, we, who are fortunate to serve this great institution at this momentous time, rededicate ourselves to work better for the promotion of Quality Higher Education for All. A period of 10 years is significant in the history of an educational institution. The Central University of Tamilnadu has PROF. A. P. DASH played a noteworthy role in meeting the knowledge needs and research needsVICE at - CHANCELLOR the national and international levels over a period of ten years of time. Perhaps the ten year old and yet modern of the Centre of Learning in the Southern part of our country, it is now looking back with pride, the path it has traversed over a decade. The achievements of the past drive us to greater enthusiasm, not into complacency that prevents greater achievements in the years to come. For us, Every Academic Year remains a clarion call to the progress that lies ahead; for, what the caterpillar thinks is the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly. With the active support of my colleagues in teaching and administration, I am delighted to note that, we indeed have done remarkably well during the last year. The Central University of Tamil Nadu has a rich and wideDR. academic S. BHUVANESWARI profile. CM TheA. V. PALANIUniversity offers DR. A. RAGUPATHY one under-graduate programme, six integrated programmes, REGISTRAR21 post graduate FINANCE programmes, OFFICER CONTROLLER 14 OF EXAMINATIONS M.Phil. Programmes, 21 Ph.D. Programmes and one P.G. Diploma Programme through the twenty six departments of twelve schools. Also one under graduate programe and eight post graduate programmes are offered through Madras school of Economics, Chennai and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International school of Textiles Management, Coimbatore, who have MOU with CUTN. The CUTN also has MoU with Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Tanjavur (Govt. of India) and Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT), Chennai (MHRD, Govt. of India). The gender profile of the University shows a rosy picture of the equity in the campus, in terms of the gender ratio, with around 60% female students. As many as 55% of students are from other states with diversified nativity from 23 States and Union Territories of India which includes Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Manipur, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttara Khand, Maharastra, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Orissa, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgar, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir. They represent a microcosm of this great country and in their collective presence, they show us, in miniature, what this country could be if it lives up to its extraordinary potential. Central University of Tamil Nadu This new University, within a short time since its inception, could publish papers in reputed and high impact journals like Nature, Lancet Infectious Diseases and Lancet. The research publications of CUTN have achieved the H-index of 27, i-10 index 684, Total Impact factor- 594, Highest Impact factor- 59.102 and Average Impact factor- 2.14. As many as 125 papers were published in UGC listed journals, 15 papers were published in International journals along with 4 books in the last year. An amount of 2.25 crores has been obtained as Research Grant for Extra-Mural Funding. Thus, the CUTN is contributing well, as a top Institution leading in research among the new Central Universities, established after 2009. The Central University of Tamil Nadu instituted NCC on its campus and launched Platoon No. 5 and 6 of 2(P) Independent COY under the NCC Karaikal jurisdiction on its campus. The Swachhta Pakhwara (fort night) programme was observed at the University and as a part of it, the NSS student-volunteers had made all efforts to make CUTN a complete clean institution. The CUTN has contributed for immediate relief work of the Gaja Cyclone victims also contributed for the Post Flood Rehabilitation Works in Kerala. We have given importance to the principle of inclusive growth, with due priorities for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, and for Women, First Generation learners and the disadvantaged segments of the rural population. In the years to come, the CUTN will play a pivotal role in making available skilled workforce necessary for the success of ambitious programmes of the Government, such as Digital India, Skill India, Clean India and, most importantly, Make in India. I must gratefully record here the unstinting cooperation and support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission and other connected agencies like DST, DBT, which helped us enormously in making the developments mentioned during this period. I would like to attribute the achievements of our University to the Members of the Court, Executive Council, Academic Council and the passionately committed Faculty, Staff and Students, who stood behind the University as a solidly united Team and made its vision a reality.
