School Uniform Policy

Our children are proud to wear school uniform which gives them a sense of identity and pride in belonging to Craigton Primary School. Our uniform is simple and practical with a focus on the cost of the school day to best support our families.

We believe that we have a moral duty to keep costs low for parents as we realise that they have many financial responsibilities. Therefore, we will ensure that our school uniform is affordable and provides that best possible value to our families.

Following consultation with staff and pupils we have decided to have a school uniform that not only reinforces a sense of pride in the school but also promotes equality and supports the health and wellbeing of our children.

Our policy for school uniform is based on the principles that school uniform:-  Promotes a sense of pride in our school  Develops a sense of community and belonging to the school  Is practical and looks smart  Makes children feel equal to others in terms of appearance  Is regarded as suitable clothing for school  Is designed with health and safety and the cost of the school day in mind  Prepares children for secondary school

We are also aware that a greater number of pupils are questioning their gender identity than in the past. Therefore, we have made the decision to introduce a gender-neutral uniform which will cater for those pupils who do not match clothing to gender.

Our school uniform is:  Red sweatshirt / jumper or cardigan  White polo shirt / shirt  Black or grey skirt/trousers/leggings  White/ black/ grey/red socks/ tights

 Black shoes/trainers/boots  Children should bring coats to school every day when the weather is cold or wet (not hooded tops).

All uniform should be clearly labelled with the child’s name. The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items.

Items from our uniform list can be ordered from our school uniform supplier: https://www.schoolwearscotland.com/primary-school-uniform-craigton-primary-school-c- 2_232.html

P.E. Kit

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions pupils are not required to bring a PE kit to school. However when school life returns to normal our kit will be:

 Any t-shirt/shorts/leggings or jogging bottoms that adhere to health and safety guidelines with a focus on allowing children the freedom of movement during PE lessons. Considering the cost of the school day we do not specify a colour or brand of PE kit.  Footwear – Trainers are needed for PE. Gymnastics is done in bare feet.

Swimming

Children in Primary 6 usually go swimming for one term each year. Due to current COVID- 19 restrictions pupils are unable to attend these lessons. When life returns to normal information about what they need for swimming lessons will be given to you by the class teacher.

Jewellery

Jewellery must not be worn to school. Children with pierced ears may wear studs, but in order to comply with health and safety guidance, these will need to be removed during PE lessons.

Personal Belongings

Money and other valuables should not be brought to school, unless required for a specific activity.

Mobile phones should not be brought into school. If a child is walking home from school and you wish them to have a mobile phone for this purpose then this must be placed in the class phone box at the start of the day and collected by the child before they leave the premises at the end of the day.

School is unable to accept responsibility for the loss of, or damage to, any valuables or personal belongings that have not been handed into the office for safe keeping.

Lost Property

Please name all articles of clothing, as a great deal of time can be wasted looking for owners of items that are not named. Lost property is displayed regularly for families to check and claim.
