Sport

In sport, pupils show exceptionally high levels of physical skill across a wide range of activities and teams, enjoying local and regional successes with a number of individuals being supported to become junior international players. ISI REPORT

Welcome Sport is a crucial element of the educational experience we offer at The Leys.

I am delighted that the overwhelming majority of pupils play fixtures for our school and that we can provide them with outstanding teaching and excellent facilities. With almost 570 pupils in the school, sport has to play a key role here at The Leys. Our mission is to provide quality, variety and depth in all we do. We generate an environment where our pupils can develop, flourish and, most importantly, enjoy and take part in what they are doing. We take considerable pride in their achievements, but participation is essential and we are equally proud of the U14D Team as we are of our 1st Teams. I hope this brochure gives you a sense of the value we attach to sport here at The Leys. I look forward to meeting you very soon. Director of Sport, James Clark

Here at The Leys we want young people to develop into well-rounded individuals with sound values. Sport unquestionably plays an important part in this. The school has a fine record of achievement, numbering several national and international sportsmen and women among its alumni. Whilst we are proud and pleased to celebrate their victories and accolades, and those of our current pupils, we take an equal pleasure in seeing pupils of varying levels of ability taking on challenges, making progress and achieving and growing their potential. This striving, competing and cooperating brings strength of character and valuable life skills – and it is also important that Leysians comport themselves graciously in competitive situations, whether in victory or defeat. Whether a pupil likes rugby or squash, or trampolining, there is plenty of choice. The one thing everyone can agree on is that sport should be about taking part, winning or losing with good grace and, above all – enjoyment.
