July 16, 2021 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Francesca Donlan, 239-338-3500 Hit Singer-Songwriters Jimmie Allen and Michael Ray Headline Island Hopper Songwriter Fest Download free festival app for tickets LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Island Hopper Songwriter Fest kicks off its seventh year with an impressive lineup of talented singer-songwriters including Jimmie Allen and Michael Ray. Allen, who won this year’s Academy of Country Music Award for New Male Artist of the Year, will perform at the highly anticipated pool party at Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina on Sept. 26. The Delaware native made history as the first Black artist to launch a career with two consecutive No. 1 songs on country radio. His hit, “Best Shot,” claimed the No. 1 spot for three weeks and his second single, “Make Me Want To,” climbed the charts in March 2020. He recently released an album featuring collaborations with Little Big Town, Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton. Ray, a Florida native, joins Island Hopper Songwriter Fest with three No. 1 songs, including “Kiss You in the Morning,” “Think a Little Less” and “One That Got Away.” He performs at Pinchers at The Marina at Edison Ford in downtown Fort Myers on Sept. 23. Ray kicks off his summer tour in June with country star Luke Combs. Tickets are available exclusively in the official festival app. “BMI is thrilled to partner once again with Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau and iHeartMedia for the 2021 Island Hopper Songwriters Fest,” said Dan Spears, BMI vice president of industry relations. “After the challenging year we’ve had, this festival offers the perfect opportunity to bring people back down to Southwest Florida and celebrate with great food, drinks and music.

  • Jimmie Allen Bio for Breakthrough Country Artist Jimmie
Jimmie Allen Bio For breakthrough country artist Jimmie Allen, a simple phrase sums up his view on life and music: Never give up. A native of Southern Delaware – the “slower, lower” part of the state, he explains – Allen has carried that mantra with him through good times and bad, whether than meant living in his car or rocking amphitheaters on Toby Keith’s Interstates & Tailgates Tour. He’s poured out his soul at Music City’s famous Bluebird Cafe, wrote a song that was featured in a Super Bowl commercial, and appeared in a Diet Coke ad with superstar Taylor Swift. But now with the BBR Music Group debut of his self-titled EP, a lifetime of never giving up has brought him full circle. “I didn’t quit, I never will,” he says. “Stuff ain’t easy, and you shouldn’t quit either. There’s a big difference between busting your ass, and sitting on it.” For Allen, musical dreams and a love of true-to-themselves artists like Alan Jackson, Aaron Tippin, Montgomery Gentry, and Jason Aldean brought him all the way to Nashville – and eventually around the world for an Armed Forces Entertainment tour of Japan. But it was actually a nightmare which turned this promising singer into the artist he is today. After a series of bad breaks Allen was forced to live in his car, too proud to ask for a bail out. For months he worked multiple jobs and finally saved enough for an apartment, but hit then another snag – country music wasn’t ready for him.

  • Inequality on Country Radio: 2019 in Review
Inequality on Country Radio: 2019 in Review By Jada E. Watson in partnership with CMT’s Equal Play Campaign This research is supported by an Insight Development Grant from 17 February 2020 Twenty years ago, today, the Dixie Chicks celebrated their third consecutive week in the #1 position of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks Chart with “Cowboy Take Me Away”. Joining the trio in the chart’s top positions were Faith Hill with “Breathe” at #5, Reba McEntire with “What Do You Say” at #6, Martina McBride with “Love’s the Only House” at #10, Jo Dee Messina with “Because You Love Me” at #11, SheDAISY with “This Woman Needs” at #12, LeeAnn Rimes with “Big Deal” at #15, and Chely Wright with “It Was” at #19. That’s 8 songs by women in the Top 20 positions of the radio chart – making up 40% of the week’s top songs. An additional 12 songs by female artists charted outside of the Top 20 on the 19 February 2000 chart, bringing the count to 20 songs (26.7%) on the chart.1 Last year in this same week, just 2 songs by women were in the Top 20 – Carrie Underwood’s “Love Wins” at #14 and Kelsea Ballerini’s “Miss Me More” at #18, making up 10% of the top songs. Eight other songs by women ranked in the bottom 40 positions of the chart – bringing the count to just 10 songs (16.7%) of the week’s chart.2 Over the course of this 20-year period, the culture of Billboard’s airplay chart changed so drastically that the percentage of songs by women in the Top 20 declined 75%.
