Finding Grace in the Concert Hall: Community and Meaning Among Springsteen Fans
FINDING GRACE IN THE CONCERT HALL: COMMUNITY AND MEANING AMONG SPRINGSTEEN FANS By LINDA RANDALL A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY On Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS In the Department of Religion December 2008 Winston Salem, North Carolina Approved By: Lynn Neal, PhD. Advisor _____________________________ Examining Committee: Jeanne Simonelli, Ph.D. Chair _____________________________ LeRhonda S. Manigault, Ph.D _____________________________ ii Acknowledgements First and foremost, my thanks go out to Drs. Neal and Simonelli for encouraging me to follow my passion and my heart. Dr. Neal helped me realize a framework within which I could explore my interests, and Dr. Simonelli kept my spirits alive so I could nurse the project along. My concert-going partner in crime, cruisin’tobruce, also deserves my gratitude, sharing expenses and experiences with me all over the eastern seaboard as well as some mid-America excursions. She tolerated me well, right up until the last time I forgot the tickets. I also must recognize the persistent assistance I received from my pal and companion Zero, my Maine Coon cat, who spent hours hanging over my keyboard as I typed. I attribute all typos and errors to his help, and thank him for the opportunity to lay the blame at his paws. And lastly, my thanks and gratitude goes out to Mr. Bruce Frederick Springsteen, a man of heart and of conscience who constantly keeps me honest and aware that “it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive (Badlands).” -

The larger tents bore the brassy emblems of Wasatch, the company controlled by Dr. Darius Hellstromme, the most notorious master of steam technology the West had to offer. That wasn't why Ronan was here though-at least not directly. Wasatch was laying dozens of spurs off of their main line on their way toward the coast. -

NEWSLETTER AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2017 Hankering at the Muster Three of Hank's Biggest Fans Notch up Anniversary Year
NEWSLETTER AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2017 Hankering at the Muster The 2017 Clarence Valley Country Muster is the ONLY festival appearance in Australia by Jett Williams, daughter of the late, great Hank Williams. On her first Down Under tour, Jett will perform 12 select dates in October-November. On Sunday, October 29, Jett will perform exclusively at the Muster, singing some of her daddy’s songs with Australia’s own version of the Drifting Cowboys. This is one seriously great band and features Rod Coe on bass; Kelvin Nolan on guitar; Dallas Southern on pedal steel and Brendan Crickmore on fiddle. (Hank didn’t have drummers in his band, so neither does his daughter). Get a Hankering for what’s ahead on Thursday night, October 26, by trying out your own version of your favourite Hank Williams song. Hank fan Ray Essery will donate a trophy to the winner. Then, after the songs have been sung, settle back with some popcorn for the Hank Williams movie, I Saw The Light on the big screen. While you’re watching, think up a Hank memory to share with Jett when you meet her on Sunday. Three of Hank’s biggest fans notch up anniversary year The Gunbarrell Highwaymen – Terry Gordon, Reg Poole and Owen Blundell – who are all major Hank Williams fans, mark a significant milestone on their musical journey this Muster. It’s now 28 years since the three amigos decided to join forces and head on down the Lost Highway as a country supergroup … and they’re still going strong. Having toured Australia and New Zealand, and performed at most major festivals along the way, The Gunbarrell Highwaymen still don’t tire of each other’s company. -
Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
