These Institutes consist of laboratories, which are specialised for specific research areas. Beside research, the institutes also take care of pedagogical work at professional, university and postgraduate levels. In this way, the scientific and research work are neatly connected with the pedagogical work. The students of higher classes are frequently included in the research projects of the laboratories. In this way, they refresh their theoretical knowledge, they obtain experience and strengthen their engineering enthusiasm, which is extremely important for a creative and successful career. This is the reason why our graduates are respected and saught after in the industry. In 2006, we completed the long-expected extension of our Faculty – the building G2. Besides the teaching rooms and cabinets, we acquired additional space for scientific work and research. G2 plays the role of a central workpoint. It enables much better working conditions for employees and for our students. In 2006, most effort has been dedicated to the adaptation of our teaching to the Bologna initiative. We have renewed all studying programmes and introduced some new programmes. Over the next year, the whole generation of the first year students will be educated according to the Bologna initiative. We do not doubt that the connection between education and research work will now be even stronger. This is the reason why I am proud on this report, which confirms, that our faculty is well-ensconced in the research and scientific community at home and worldwide. Our achievements are regularly presented at different scientific conferences and in those scientific journals with high reputations. Despite some financial difficulties, we will orient ourselves even more strongly towards research projects including industrial projects, domestic research projects, and the projects of the European Union. The Faculty's management will support all the prosperous laboratories and take care of the best young researchers. In this way we will definitely build strong research cores at the Faculty, and ensure the competence and excellence of our research and pedagogical work. Dean Prof. Dr. Igor Tičar Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science FW – 5 STUDY PROGRAMMES, OPTIONS AND EMPHASIS Undergraduate studies The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers two separate types of study programmes, each leading to a different type of degree: academic and professional. Four study programmes with several options are offered
