It is the same with the scientific research work at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Maribot, which is beside the pedagogic activity, a key pillar of its functioning. We are proud that FERI is currently the largest registered research organization in the northeast Slovenia and presents, with its almost 300 employees and more than 170 researchers, a powerful factors in its environment, especially because we are working and utilizing the latest research equipment. As in every previous year, the resaults of our work, in the research field, in the previous year are presented in this Annual Report. On foundational, applicative and international projects, on various levels, we are especially proud of those projects that are conducted for industrial partners because with such, it is our best way to proove our connectedness with the economy. Year after year, despite a relatively uneasy economic situation, we nourish good traditional relations with the industry and where it is possible, we make it even stronger. I think that FERI is an excellent example of a successful transfer of knowledge from an academic mileu to the industrual one. Of course we should not forget, that the education is the primary mission Of every faculty and we as well educate young experts, engineers, masters and doctors of science. We are pleased and proud that our graduates are known for being diligent, reliable and above all with well rounded education. They are very sought after at the job market and well employed, and many of them founded successful hightech companies. I know that our graduates from new and reorganized study programmes are and will be successful as well. The first generation has in previous year already completed the so-called first cycel of Bologna university and higher education study programmes. A number of young researchers, especially those whose education was financed by the Research Agencs of the Republic of Slovenia and Technological Slovenian Agency, speaks of the faculty's successfulness on the educational-research field. In 2010, there were 51 young researchers of all profiles. There are eight program units that function as part of the faculty, under which they are engaged in a fundamental research. The results of such work are presented in this Annual Report. For the rest of the resaults, it is important to note a large number of publishings in the most regarded scientific journals, and those numbers are increasing, which points out to a quality scientific work. It would give me great joy if you would take time and study our Annual Report of the scientific- research work at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Dean Prof. Dr. Igor Tičar Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science FW – 5 STUDY PROGRAMMES, OPTIONS AND EMPHASIS Undergraduate studies The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers two separate types of study programmes, and each one that leads to a different

THE PARK OF MILITARY HISTORY museum and tourist centre www.parkvojaskezgodovine.si The Park of Military History is a museum tourist centre located in the old Pivka barracks complex. The barracks were built by the Kingdom of Italy around 1930 in order to defend the Rapallo border, and from 1945 to 1991, they were home to the Yugoslav People's Army. Since 2004, the Park of Military History has been developing within the complex, becoming the largest museum complex in the Republic of Slovenia as well as one of the largest military- historical complexes in this part of Europe. Visitors of the Park can enjoy several important exhibitions and collections. The key exhibition displays the establishment of the Slovenian state and its independence war of 1991, while special interest is also evoked by the collection of tanks, artillery and aircraft, and the submarine as the largest and, according to many visitors, the most attractive exhibit in the Park of Military History. The Komanda Building In front of the entrance of the »Komanda« Building stands a monument dedicated to the event that made the Pivka barracks a part of national military history. On 26 June 1991, the so-called »Day Before«, the first tanks of the Yugoslav People's Army took to the road from here and thus started the aggression against the newly independent Republic of Slovenia. Did you know? After the departure of the EXHIBITIONS Yugoslav People's Army in 1991, the complex of the AND old Pivka barracks was completely abandoned COLLECTIONS and desolated. 5 Komanda The »Komanda« is the former command facility of the barracks; today, the information centre of the Park of Military History, the Tourist Information Centre Pivka, the museum shop and the museum restaurant Kantina are situated on the ground floor.
