Guess what? We have just celebrated our 18th anniversary. Those who try things we recommend are rewarded. We have stayed in business for one reason and that is we have never attempted to appeal to the lowest common denominator as mainstream outlets do. At the same time we recognise that people do have different tastes and to some CMT is actually good. We also appeal to those people and offer many mainstream items in our bargain bin. But the legends and true country music are our bread butter and will always be. If you see something you think you may like but are worried let us know. If you pass our inquisition we may be able to send it on a sale or return basis. I say inquisition because if your favourite artists are SheDaisy and Rascal Flatts we certainly aren’t going to risk something as precious as Justin Trevino. By the same token we believe great music is timeless and knows no bounds. People may think chuck steak is good until they try the best rump! Recently I had the pleasure of seeing Dale Watson. Before hand I had the added pleasure of sitting in with my compatriot Eddie White (a.k.a. “The Cosmic Cowboy”) for an interview at the 2RRR Studios. Dale is a humble, engaging and extremely likeable man with a passion for tradition.

  • A Season of Crime: Home and Bicycle Thefts Spiking During Summer Months
VOL. 3 NO. 32 SOMERVILLE, MASS. WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12, 2015 TWENTY-FIVE CENTS Inside: A season of crime: home and bicycle thefts spiking during summer months By Jim Clark According to information being shared by the Somerville Police Department, incidents of theft involving bicycles and home break-ins take a sharp upward rise during the summer months. One can, however, minimize the risks of loss or damage to personal property by following some simple guidelines laid out by law enforce- ment professionals. Questions remain on In analyzing the statistics available, police have McGrath Hwy. page 3 determined that bicycle theft is definitely a sea- sonal issue. In 2014, 50% of all bike thefts oc- curred in the summer months (June-August), 75% including September and October. For the first two months of this summer (June and July), bike thefts ran 30% above last Loss of bicycles and other personal property can be greatly minimized during the high-risk summer year’s average. Other communities have noted months by following a few simple guidelines, according to police crime analysts. — Photo by Bobbie Toner similar increases. Continued on page 4 New mural taking shape in East Somerville By Josie Grove Sebastian in Cross Street is a half-mile length of road be- the city page 7 tween Interstate 93 and the McGrath Highway. The East Somerville street’s single-story build- ings, small bodegas, and Brazilian restaurants feel worlds away from the trendy eateries and artisan coffee of Davis Square. The neighbor- hood is hard to reach and easy to overlook, but Teresa Vazquez-Dodero hopes new art projects will change the neighborhood’s image.

  • Dear John – the Sebastian Collection
Dear John – the Sebastian Collection Now I know a little about the Everly Brothers, a little about Gordon Lightfoot, and even less about a whole host of other great singer/songwriters. But I don’t know a lot about John Sebastian other than he played guitar and harmonica for Tim Hardin and Fred Neil back in the mid-60s; he was featured strongly in Creeque Alley, John Phillips’ ode to California Dreaming; he made good time music a reality with the Lovin’ Spoonful; he provided the opening (acoustic) act at Woodstock when everyone’s electrics were flooded out; he inspired no less than John and June to pay homage to him; he allowed the Everly Brothers into his lounge to close off their RCA debut with long-time collaborator Paul Rothschild; oh and he gave John Travolta a pretty big kick up the ladder by writing a very simple theme tune called ‘Welcome Back’ in the mid-70s. But what I do know about John Sebastian is that he is just about one of the most talented musicians, songwriters, and performers of a generation. And this collection is the living proof. I’ve been doing this job for a few years now but have Fred Neil, partly under the only just achieved my ambition of starting a tutelage of producer Paul compilation with a ‘Finale’. I Rothschild. Here are a went to see this film in Baker couple of versions of classic Street back when I was a rock songs, one is a demo student at West London recording of a Chuck Berry College and loved the song, the other a Fred Neil frenetic atmosphere of original from the Brill student life in America.

RADIO CAROLINE - a European pirate radio station that started transmissions on Easter Saturday 1964 from a ship anchored in international waters off the coast of Felixstowe, Suffolk, England. It was unlicensed by any government for most of its life and it was labelled a pirate radio station. Although one of a number of unlicensed radio stations based on ships anchored off Britain, Radio Caroline was the first such station to broadcast all day using the English language. This, together with the station’s tenacity in surviving for some 40 years, has established Radio Caroline as a household name for offshore radio. A legal, onshore version of Radio Caroline continues to broadcast via several methods, predominantly via satellite and over the internet. On Monday 3rd May 1965 the EBs taped an interview with Keith Skues for broadcast on the pirate radio. RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL - New York, NY, USA.
