Columbus and Montreal Advance to Disney Pro Soccer Classic Final Columbus and Montreal Advance to Disney Pro Soccer Classic Final LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Columbus Crew will battle the Montreal Impact in the Disney’s Pro Soccer Classic championship game Sunday at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Impact was on its way to a third straight win on Saturday at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex before an 85th minute score by Kyle Porter that led to the game ending in a 1-1. The Crew won its third straight game with a 3-2 victory over Orlando City Soccer Club. Crew forward Federico Higuain converted a late penalty kick in the 89th minute to seal the win. In other matches Saturday, Philadelphia Union got its first win with a 3-0 win over Toronto Football Club. Union’s Antonie Hoppenot scored the matches’ first goal in the 8th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead over Toronto. In the second half, Union’s Matt Kassel blasted a goal from outside the penalty box to solidify the win. The Sporting Kansas City-Tampa Bay Rowdies match was scoreless until the 76th minute when Orlando native Graham Zusi’s goal gave Kansas City the 1-0 victory. Disney’s Pro Soccer Classic final is Saturday at 8pm with three more games starting at 1 pm at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World following The field includes six Major League Soccer clubs (D.C. United, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City, Columbus Crew, Toronto FC and Montreal Impact) along with the United Soccer Leagues’ Orlando City Soccer and the North American Soccer League’s Tampa Bay Rowdies. Single session tickets for the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic, which include entry into two games, are on sale for $20 through all Ticketmaster outlets and at the sports complex box office or by calling 407-949-GAME (4263). The Disney Pro Soccer Classic is just one of more than a dozen prestigious soccer events held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which is the leading multi-sports venue in the nation and the official preseason training home of the AS Roma Football Club.     Dick Crippen Dick Crippen is currently senior advisor with the Tampa Bay Rays. He serves on 11 boards of directors including the St. Petersburg YMCA; PARC, United Way of Tampa Bay Advisory Board; Florida Blood Services; Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf, CASA (Trustee); Pinellas Education Foundation; P.A.L Advisory Board, the Salvation Army Advisory Board and CharityWorks Advisory Board. He is also a lifetime member of the board for the Suncoast Ronald MacDonald Houses. He serves on the President’s Associates at Eckerd College and also the Ethics Advisory Board at St. Pete.College. Dick has been a staple of Tampa Bay Area broadcasting for better than four decades. For more than 35 years he served as sports director at both the NBC affiliate (19 years for WFLA-TV) and before that at the then ABC affiliate (16 years for WTSP-TV). He has also worked extensively in radio and was best known as part of the Q Morning Zoo on Q105 Radio and Mason in the Mornings on Mix 96. His sports broadcasting also included several years with NASCAR’s Motor Racing Network and 17 years doing the radio broadcasts for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also served as stadium announcer and television broadcaster for the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Crippen’s work has taken him around the country as he broadcast the Unlimited Hydroplane Circuit on ESPN for 10 years and has also been a voice for Offshore Powerboat Racing.

The last Philadelphia team to do so was the Ukrainian Nationals in 1966. At PPL Park on Sept. 16 at 7:30 pm, the Philadelphia Union will look to restart that winning tradition. Before the US Open Cup Before the founding of the US Open Cup in the 1913–1914 season, the claim for a national soccer title was held by the American Cup competition, also known as the American Football Association Cup and the American Federation Cup. First organized by the American Football Association in 1885, the competition primarily featured teams from the early American soccer triangle of Northern New Jersey, Southern New York and lower New England. In 1897, the John A. Manz team became the first Philadelphia club to win the American Cup. Tacony won in 1910 with Philadelphia Hibernian losing in the final the following year. In 1914, Bethlehem Steel FC won the first of its six American Cup titles by beating Tacony, who had also lost to Northern New Jersey’s Paterson True Blues in the final the year before.
