Press Conference 0n Bank Negara’s Alert List July 19,2017 Ethics Council Malaysia (ECM), DSAM, MCA Public Services & Complaints Department (MCAPSCD), and the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation held a joint press conference on July 19. The press conference was to highlight Bank Negara’s updated Alert List of known companies and websites which are allegedly not authorised or approved under the relevant laws and regulations administered by the central bank. Members of the public were urged not to fall prey on the illegal schemes offered by unauthorised / approved companies. Winston Chen (DSAM Board), Tham Yoke Lan (DSAM Board). 4 EVENT Training & Talks SPOTLIGHT Briefing on Price Control & Anti-Profiteering Regulations 2016 May 18, 2017 DSAM organised a half-day session on the new regulations governing unreasonable high profits for DSAM Members which was conducted by Guna Selan AS Marian, Section Head of the Price Control & Anti-Profiteering Unit, Enforcement Division from the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, assisted by Senior Assistant Directors Faizah Othman and Nor Hafizah Haron. This session was aimed at providing the members with an overview of the new regulations, a run-through of the formulations used, and the implications of the new regulations for the Direct Selling industry. This regulation was gazetted on December 22, 2016 and enforced January 1, 2017. There was a six months grace period for compliance while the guidelines were being finalised. Briefing on Company Act 2016 September 19, 2017 DSAM, together with Wong & Partners held a briefing on the new Companies Act 2016. It was attended by more than 70 participants. Among the topics that were presented were Summary and Overview of the new Act, Compliance for Direct Selling companies especially in Directors’ Duties and Obligations. The half-day session ended with a Q&A Session. Companies Act 2016 has been implemented in stages from January 31, 2017. This new Act repeals the Companies Act 1965. Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) has advised owners and head of companies to take into account of the changes in the Act when reviewing, formulating or implementing policies and procedures which may affect companies when dealing with ministries and government agencies.
