2003-2010: CEO, MacMillin Consulting, Inc. Represented talent, developed concepts for TV networks, optioned books, acted as go-between for independent production houses and broadcast networks, often as executive producer.

2005: Producer, “City Games,” an amateur fitness special in conjunction with the Miami Fitness Festival and TeamWorks Media, aired on Fox Sports Net ‘05.

2006: Executive producer, “Manhunt,” 2-hour special covering the capture of Miami serial rapist, aired on A&E

Introduced Towers to the international market at MIP and MIPCOM in Cannes. Created lasting domestic network relationships with regularly scheduled network pitch sessions and attended national conferences such as NATPE, RealScreen Documentary Conference, PBS national meetings, etc.

In 1997, the one of the programs in this series won a New York Festival Silver Award. 1983-1996: WTTW/Chicago Producer/writer/project manager . “Remembering Bing,” co-producer/writer for this very successful PBS pledge special on the career of Bing Crosby . “Doris Day: A Sentimental Journey,” co- producer/writer for another successful PBS pledge show on the life and career of Doris Day. . “Playin’ Chicago,” producer/writer of the first HDTV broadcast of dramatic -short in North America. . “Record Row,” co-writer on this Emmy Award-winning documentary about Chicago’s African-American’s extraordinary contributions to that musical era and business. . “Sneak Previews,” with Jeffrey Lyons and : producer for three years on this classic movie review program. . “Kidsongs,” project manager for this children’s music show, which aired on public television for seven-plus years. March, 2019: Executive Producer: “South Florida’s Rising Seas: Response,” 10-part Web series premiered on South Florida Media Network. Student-produced videos exploring what is being done to combat sea level rise.

April, 2015: Executive Producer: “South Florida’s Rising Seas: Impact.” a half-hour prime time special aired on WPBT2 based on MacMillin’s students’ work on sea level rise impact.

February, 2015: Professor of Record: “Sea Level Rise Impact: An FIU/SJMC series,” a video series airing on WPBT’s YouTube site, based on student work from Multimedia I and Writing for TV classes (Spring 2014).

January 15, 2014: Producer: “South Florida’s Rising Seas”: 30-minute documentary which aired on WBPT2, Jan. 15, 2014 and dozens of times after: Winner of the Best Short Documentary at the DocMiami International Film Festival. Most viewed online 2014 program on WPBT. This half-hour documentary focuses on the work being done in a region characterized as one of the most vulnerable in the world to the effects of climate change, with the greatest number of people and places at risk to rising sea levels. It includes interviews with local scientific experts, industry and community leaders.

January 15, 2014: SJMC/Producer: WPBT’s “Issues,” hosted by Helen Ferre. The panel discussion included: Jonathan Englander, author, “High Tide on Main Street”; Hal Wanless, Chair of the Geological Sciences Department, UM; Richard Grosso, lawyer and professor from Nova University; and Dr. Juliet Pinto, SJMC.

March 19, 2014: PBS NEWSHOUR “South Florida’s Rising Seas” repurposed as an 8-minute story for their national audience.

April 2014: “South Florida’s Rising Seas,” incorporated into a special interactive feature on sea level rise by the Sun-Sentinel.

2011, Spring: Co-executive producer: “The Miami Epidemic”: Documentary aired on WPBT2. This prime time special was produced in response to CDC report that Miami was #1 in new AIDS cases. FIU’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication collaborated with FIU’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, and the Miami-Dade Health Department. 2011: SJMC/Producer: “Issues” program which followed the documentary with guests - Dr. William Darrow, Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social work; Kira Villamizar, B.S., M. P.H., Miami-Dade Health Department, and Professor Allan Richards, SJMC.

2010: Co-producer: Public Relations Video for FIU’s College of Medicine, with Professor Teresa Ponte to highlight the experiences of the community interviewers who surveyed more than 2200 people from Miami Gardens and Opa- Locka neighborhoods where people will benefit from the COM’s future outreach. These surveyors were hired and trained by the Division of Research, Data and Information.

2009: Co-executive producer: “The Stigma Stops with Me,” a four-part student-produced Web series about a Latina living with HIV/AIDS, posted on The Miami Herald Web site, posted 02.20.2009 http://www.miamiherald.com/2009/02/20/923541/the-stigma-stops-with-me.html).

2009, October: Co-producer: “Tell Somebody: The New Face of AIDS,” aired on WPBT. Hour-long documentary on the education of two college professors and their students as they researched HIV/AIDS in South Africa and South Florida. This program was accompanied by a Web site:

2008: Co-executive producer, “Lessons from South Africa,” a 30- minute documentary about how South Africa’s media raised public awareness about HIV/AIDS. Presented at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival, 2009.

2008: Professor of Record, Web Program “00:60,” broadcast on the Miami Herald Web site: 13 student-produced sixty second biographies on people in Miami from all walks of life.

FUNDED RESEARCH

2014-2015 Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education, sponsored by: Online News Association, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Robert R. McCormick Foundation, Excellence and Ethics in Journalism Foundation, Democracy Fund, Rita Allen Foundation. The $35,000 grant was awarded in Spring 2014 to Kate MacMillin, Robert E. Gutsche, Jr., Susan Jacobson, and Juliet Pinto – all professors in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University. The project operates with guidance from its Advisory and Readers Boards. The funded project on sea level rise issues titled, “Eyes on the Rise” aims to raise awareness and to educate South Florida communities about the impact, challenges and threats of sea level rise to create possible solutions for a sustainable future. http://www.eyesontherise.org.

2015- January 8: Invited by President Rosenberg to attend a lecture on sea level rise at Fisher Island: “A Constructive Conservative Perspective on Climate Science and Policy”: Café Tangier. Speakers: Dr. Kerry Emanuel, MIT and Samuel Thermstrom, executive director of Energy Innovation Reform Project.

2014 – November – March 2015: “South Florida’s Rising Seas” documentary on exhibit at: “Miami 2100: Envisioning a Resilient Second Century,” an exhibition about planning for climate change and sea level rise in Greater Miami presented by the Florida International University School of Architecture

2014- October 9 – MacMillin, Pinto, Gutsche and Jacobson (ONA Grant winners: eyesontherise.org team) : Created the King Tide Day Event in Miami Beach, Florida. Collaborated with MAST, CLEO, Alta Systems, the FIU College of Arts and Sciences and the Public Works Department of Miami Beach. Dozens of SJMC students worked with MAST and CLEO, using sensors to test water quality. Our team held a press conference that included: Phil Levine, Mayor of Miami Beach; Senators Bill Nelson and Sheldon Whitehouse; Mike Heithaus, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, and Gina McCarthy head of the EPA. Along with the press conference and water testing, MacMillin’s video production classes covered the entire day and produced a segment on it which will air in the spring of 2015 on WPBT2.

October 1 & 2, 2014 MacMillin, K., Pinto, J., and Jacobson, S., Participated in the Sixth Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit in Miami Beach, Florida.

April 30, 2014: MacMillin, K and Pinto, J. Miami Beach: 9- noon. FIU and Miami Beach/Brainstorming on Meridian/ request from Michael Heithaus, Associate Dean College of Arts and Sciences. FIU and the City of Miami Beach partnership to focus on sea level rise and a number of other projects.

2012 - February: Lectured to Dr. William Darrow’s Community Health class in preparation for their team work on an implementation plan for an HIV/AIDS awareness program.

2012- April 11: Judge with a panel of experts from the Miami Dade Health Department and FIU health educators at the “Smarty Pants Bowl,” in William Darrow’s class at the Stempel School of Public Health where four student- teams presented their HIV/AIDS implementation proposals and one was chosen as the winner.

2010, Dec. 1: World AIDS DAY – MacMillin, K. Coordinator and moderator for TELL SOMEBODY NOW, a screening of “The Stigma Stops with Me” and a post panel discussion with Damaries Cruz, AIDS activist, Jessy G. Devieux, Ph.D. , Dept. of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Human Services Program Manager, Miami- Dade Health Department; Florence Greer, M.P.H. & M.P.A. Regional Minority AIDS Coordinator, Miami-Dade Health Department; Kira Villamizar, B.S., M. P.H., Miami-Dade Health Department. 2009 - Spring: Community Forum: The screening of “The Stigma Stops with Me,” Coordinator. Over 100 students attended the screening on the Biscayne Bay Campus. It was followed by a Q&A session with the Miami-Dade Health Department and videotaped.

2009 - Spring: Interdisciplinary work with the Stempel School of Public Health and Social Work. Presented “The Stigma Stops with Me” Web series, HIV/AIDS PSAs and “Lessons from South Africa” to William Darrow’s Public Health class.
