WELCOME TO CHENGDU I would like to welcome you all to the beautiful city of Chengdu and AMBA & BGA’s Asia Pacific Conference for Deans and Directors – the 12th instalment of this annual event. As the year draws to a close, I am very pleased to say that 2019 has been the most successful year in our history. The AMBA-accredited School network has grown to 272 Schools and 46,000 student and graduate members. In addition, since launching the Business Graduates Association (BGA) in January, we have recruited 100 BGA member Schools in just 10 months. During the conference, we will present, discuss and debate key issues which will impact Business Schools in the Asia Pacific region over the next five years, including: action learning and industry- focused education in the MBA; student recruitment trends in the Asia Pacific region; practical strategies for upgrading business education; the Silk Road Entrepreneurship Education Network; digitisation in teaching and learning platforms; the future of leadership development; and innovative course development. In addition, the conference will provide updates on new market innovations that are impacting the future development of Business Schools globally, and the progress of BGA since its recent launch. We want our networks of Business Schools, throughout the Asia Pacific region and the rest of the world, to stay abreast of the latest developments in business education and for our supporters to provide the thought leadership and industry knowledge that is required. With that in mind, I would like to welcome and express our sincere thanks to our partner, Educational Testing Services (ETS), GRE. AMBA & BGA’s corporate supporters enable us to host industry-leading events in fantastic venues and, as an organisation, we aim to work with the ‘best in class’, so I would encourage you to take the opportunity to network and engage with Educational Testing Services (ETS), GRE over the course of the next three days. HOST SCHOOL

SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMICS, UNIVERSITY OF ELECTRONIC SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF CHINA (UESTC) Renowned as the cradle for China’s electronics and technology industry, the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UESTC) of China is based in Chengdu.

UESTC was founded as the Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering in 1956, under the instruction of Premier Zhou Enlai and on the basis of incorporating the electronic divisions of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing Institute of Technology (now, Southeast University) and the South China Institute of Technology.

UESTC became one of the nation’s key universities in 1960 when it was proclaimed, by the Higher Education Ministry of the State, as one of the country’s National Key Institutes. Then, in 1997, it was one of the first universities to be included in ‘Project 211’, a project designed to develop 100 first-class universities in China and a number of key fields of research for the 21st century. In 2001, UESTC was admitted into ‘Project 985’, receiving special support for the development of world-class universities and world-renowned research-oriented universities. In 2017, UESTC was selected as one of China’s top 36, or ‘Double First-Class’ universities.

Over 60 years, the UESTC has progressed from offering a singular focus on electronic information engineering, to all-round programmes in electronic disciplines. It is now a key multidisciplinary university with electronic science and technology at its nucleus, engineering as its major field and a harmonious integration of science, engineering, management, and liberal arts.

In the face of the new opportunities and challenges presented by the 21st century, UESTC’s staff remain committed to the university’s motto, ‘to seek facts and truth, to be noble and ambitious’, in the pursuit of excellence. https://en.uestc.edu.cn/
