There Is No Love Like A Daughters Love

Ruth, Gloria and Sophie (Daughters of Bishop James) are truly daughters of Pastor Deborah Freeman, affectionately called Momma Africa. They did all they could to make Momma’s Birthday a memorable one. Momma is wearing a traditional ceremonial dress called a “Gomas” it is primarily worn at weddings and other elite events. Of course we all know that it has to be the color of royalty, PURPLE. Although they may be bought, this was made for her by Women of Worth Bridal Shoppe in . Mom- ma says, “all of God’s daughters are her daughters” and she loves on them equally. If you are one of the many that she calls daughter, you are loved with the love of God.

Continuing The Legacy

More than forty years ago a man had a dream of doing something good for his community. He didn't have very much, but what he had was love for his children and others. He came from Tanzania to and followed the path that God placed him on. Reverend Joseph Mwesigwa Katabaro and his wife Christine Mary Katabaro established a school for children in the community where it was desperately needed. In July of 2015, Reverend Katabaro went home to be with God and seven months later in March of 2016, his wife joined him. They are both smiling down on their son, and daughter-in-law Bigsam Carstine and Malinde Katabaro, they both have taken the mantle of respon- sibility and carrying on in their parents footsteps.

The Kawotto Savior's Primary School is located in the town of Kijjansi, Uganda. The school is on two acres of land that is a stones throw away from Road. The school provides education to 145 children in the community, 44 are orphaned, 20 of them live on campus and the remaining 24 stay in the Katabaros' home with their chil- dren. Each student and teacher contribute to the quality of education and life at the school by empowering one another. Everyone contributes to the school by means of duties and helping where and when they can to ensure that every person there is respected and receives full benefit of what the school has to offer. Students learn life skills and teachers provide plenty of opportunities for the children to help build character, self-esteem and spiritual growth. Power 104.1 FM Impacting the Community

“It’s all about love and caring for one another”

The Message of Bridging The Gap is Broadcast on Ugandan Television

On Sunday mornings at about 10:15 am Bigsam Katabaro walks into the stu- dio at UBC-TV to broadcast his live Christian Program. On this particular Sun- day he is joined by Pastors Reginald & Deborah Freeman, Founders of A Cross the Nations International Ministries. They are missionaries living in Uganda that are helping people to bridge the gap between Black Americans and Africans. The initiative is "Bridging The Gap", bringing together be- lievers in Christ Jesus, that have been displaced from each other through distance, false information other missed opportunities. Today was an opportunity for the Freemans to speak about what the Lord has commanded them to do. This is only the beginning. There are plans for better communications between Black Americans and Africans as a culture in the future. Restoration, Reconciliation, Transformation and Empowerment are keys to Gods plan for His people. Let us all continue to move forward in the name of Jesus.

“May the Gifts of God Shine Brightly” “A Call for Healthy Leadership” By Minister Deborah Lee Barrett Atlanta, GA (USA) Can you hear it? Every sector of society is crying out for healthy leaders… those who are mentally and emotionally healthy, morally strong, self-actualized and secure, great listeners, forward thinkers, open and aware, empathetic, not ego-driven but committed to the well-being, develop- ment and wholeness of individuals, institutions, and communities within their sphere of influ- ence. The cry is for leaders who can influence others from a place of humble strength, leading from the heart, while making those of lesser rank a priority. This call is for Servant-Leadership, an upside-down leadership model. A PARADIGM SHIFT: UPSIDE-DOWN LEADERSHIP The servant-leader concept is transforming individuals and organizations as a revolutionary leadership style that leads through serving. It is the opposite of the power leadership model which influences others through intimidation, manipulation and control. As an upside-down model, the servant-leader lays aside a self-serving agenda and focuses on empowering and serving others. According to Robert K. Greenleaf, founder of The Greenleaf Center for Servant-Leadership, the distinguishing characteristic of leadership should be service. He further defines this leadership model as follows - “The servant-leader is servant first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. The leader-first and the servant-first are two extreme types. The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant-first to make sure that other people’s highest priority needs are being served. The best test, and difficult to administer, is this: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And, what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they benefit or at least not be further deprived?” Servant-leadership stands sharply in contrast to many traditional leadership models as a new and healthy kind of leadership that affirms and em- powers. The characteristics and attributes of the Servant-Leader are as follows: GENUINE DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS This type of leader has put ego aside, and places the people first. EMPOWERS OTHERS The servant leader is a servant first, and able to win the heart, mind and spirit of others. This leader is committed to helping those they serve to reach their fullest potential. MOTIVATES OTHERS FROM WITHIN Rather than using control, manipulation or any abuse of power to accomplish goals, the servant-leader inspires and motivates others by pulling out the gifts, talents and abilities that lie within each individual they serve. LISTENS AND UNDERSTANDS The servant-leader is swift to hear and slow to speak. While listening actively, this leader seeks to comprehend what is being communicated, re- spects the opinions of others, and remains open to suggestions and ideas. The servant-leader understands that each person’s contribution is valuable and creates an environment that is conducive to openness, honesty and sharing. EMPATHETIC Empathy is the characteristic that allows the servant-leader to reject ideas and unacceptable behavior, without causing the individual to feel reject- ed. Being sensitive to and conscientious of how words and actions affect others is a key attribute of the servant-leader. ABILITY TO BRING HEALING Because the servant-leader possesses the qualities of empathy, caring, listening and understanding, he/she becomes influential in bringing about healing and wholeness to different situations -whether in the lives of the individuals they serve or in organizations that may be suffering due to damage caused by unhealthy leadership practices. AWARE AND PERCEPTIVE First and foremost, the servant-leader practices self-awareness, followed by general awareness. Awareness, which is the knowledge or perception of a situation or fact, is key for the servant-leader to understand issues that involve ethics and values, and then be able to approach the situations holistically. PERSUASIVE Rather than abusing positional authority in relationships and organizations, the servant-leader seeks buy-in and works at building consensus. This leader seeks to convince others, rather than assert his/her authority and demand compliance. ABILITY TO CONCEPTUALIZE The servant-leader is able to look beyond the present situations, to broader possibilities. With a fertile mind and capacity to dream big dreams, the servant-leader also nurtures this ability in those they serve. FORESIGHT While similar to conceptualization, the servant-leader is able to take lessons from the past, look at present realities, and determine a possible future outcome. Some are born with this characteristic, while other servant-leaders have developed this ability over time. STEWARDSHIP Servant-leaders respect public trust and are committed to being good stewards of their resources in order to uphold this trust. For this reason, the servant-leader places emphasis on transparency and accountability in order to continue operating ethically. COMMITTED TO THE TOTAL GROWTH OF PEOPLE A unique attribute of the servant-leader is the ability to care about the total well-being and growth of those they serve, and create opportunities to nurture this growth and development - personally, professionally and spiritually. The servant leader values those in his/her sphere of influence. SENSITIVE TO BUILDING COMMUNITY For many, a sense of community is nonexistent. The servant-leader understands the importance of relationships and finds ways to build community among those they serve. LEADS WITH MORAL AUTHORITY The Nations are crying out for leaders who serve with moral authority, exemplified by good character, proper conduct and adher- ence to truth. The servant-leader is motivated with an inner conviction to practice moral authority and to reflect this in fair treatment of others.

Servant-leaders are positive, affirming leaders. They are a force for good in families, organizations, communities and in society as a whole. They build individuals and organizations through serving, and develop new generations of servant-leaders and servant-institutions. 4 We Are More Than Students

At the Banjako School some of the students do more than just study in the class- room, they create things that could be used for everyday living and for their entertainment. These children are making baskets of different types for hold- ing papers for the teachers as well as a place to store pencils for class. Some of them are looking forward to making things for their family members for Christ- mas. At this school there are about 100 students that attend classes here. About 30 of them reside there presently. The facilities are being upgraded as funds trickle in and there is still a long way to go. The completion of the dormi- tory for the boys and girls and lighting for the common areas. These are an awesome bunch of kids that love making people smile. Thank God for the little children.
