Courtside Round Two Review
COURTSIDE YOUR WEEKLY UPDATE ON NETBALL’S 2006 NATIONAL BANK CUP Round Two - 8 May 2006 Flames and Magic top table after round two of the National Bank Cup Last years’ National Bank Cup champions Waikato/BOP Magic supported by Sleepyhead were on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Genesis Energy Shakers during the first half of Saturday’s round two game. Player of the match Frances Solia led the Shakers to a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Magic took control in the second half of the match, buoyed by the introduction of Silver Ferns defender Casey Williams, who made a strong return from injury to help Magic win the game with a final score of 62-43. Fujifilm Force dominated during the first half of the game against Ballantynes Canterbury Flames, ahead of the Flames 11-4 after the first quarter. Force extended their lead to 23-11 by the half time break. Flames made a steady comeback in the second half, winning the third quarter 11-7 and restricting Force to four points in the final quarter. While the late effort wasn’t enough to win the game, the two goal difference gives Flames a bonus point, while Force moved to top of the table.
