    Jamie Breiwick Quartet Jamie Breiwick Trumpet Mark Davis Piano John Price Bass Devin Drobka Drums Jamie Breiwick: A life-long native of South-Eastern Wisconsin, Jamie is an active trumpet player, composer, and educator. He has performed with such notable jazz artists as Arturo O’ Farrill, Adonis Rose, Ralph Bowen, Matt Wilson, Dan Nimmer, Joe Sanders, Matt Ulery, Francios Moutin, Pete Zimmer, Adam Larson, Rick Germanson, David Hazeltine, and David Bixler. Jamie has performed with Grammy nominated R & B artist Eric Benet, and was featured live in his recent music videos, “The Hunger” & “You’re the Only One”. He has also performed with the Barcelona-based band Brazzaville led by David Brown (Beck), and comedian Bob Newhart. In 2005, Jamie was the featured artist on the nationally-syndicated NPR show “Says You!”. Jamie’s current projects include Dreamland (The Music of Thelonious Monk), and the Lesser Lakes Trio (with John Christensen and Devin Drobka). In 2003, Jamie recorded his first album as a leader “Song to a Rose”, featuring then 19-year-old bass phenom Joe Sanders. The recording featured several original compositions, as well as Freddie Hubbard’s classic “Gittin’ Down”, Sam Rivers’ “Beatrice, and the beautiful Jule Styne ballad, “I Fall in Love Too Easily”. Finally released in 2006, the recording was chosen by jazzreview.com’s Paul J. Youngman as a top-ten release of 2007. In late 2011, Jamie recorded and released his second studio recording, “Serenity”, a duo with the Boston-based pianist Barry Velleman. The 13-track “standards” release was recorded in one three-hour session.

    MANY DIFFERENT SAMPLES OF REVIEWS December 1, 2006 Music Review | Miró Quartet A Favored Foursome Steps Outside the List of Favorites By ALLAN KOZINN It often seems surprising that, as vast as the string quartet repertory is, most ensembles draw from a relatively circumscribed well of favorites and acknowledged masterworks. The young musicians of the Miró Quartet set the core canon aside on Wednesday evening, when they played a concert at Alice Tully Hall. The program, presented by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as part of the quartet’s 2005 Cleveland Quartet Award, included less frequently traveled works by Shostakovich and Dvorak, and a score by Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, a 19th-century Spanish composer whose works are now finding their way into the repertory. The group opened its program with Arriaga’s String Quartet No. 3, a work that it is also playing tonight on an otherwise unrelated program at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can’t have too much Arriaga: this Spanish composer died in 1826, just shy of his 20th birthday, but the pieces he left — the quartets and some symphonic works — have a true spark of originality. He was called the Spanish Mozart, but his spirit and style are more akin to Beethoven’s; the opening movement of this Third Quartet bears a passing resemblance — in its rhythms and the shape of its main theme — to Beethoven’s Quartet No. 1 (Op. 18, No. 1). Even more striking are the later movements, which point toward Schubert, Brahms and Dvorak in both their melodic and textural richness.

In this wildly popular exhibit, artists re-interpret recognized world famous masterpieces to make them their own. A photograph of the original master accompanies each entry. Artists redo another artist’s complete work for various reasons — sometimes to poke fun at the original, sometimes as a joke, sometimes for style. Whatever the reason, when an artist recreates another artist’s work, particularly a masterpiece, it is called REMASTERING.
