BOAL, proud sponsor of the BOAL International U14 Tournament MASTER OF THE HOUSE Actually, we should use the multiple ‘masters” in the title of this preface, borrowed from the musical Les Misérables for the occasion. Because we are talking to two ‘masters” , namely Frank Boers, managing direc- tor of BOAL Systems and Leo van der Lans, chairman of FC ‘s-Gravenzande. They lead the two companies that come together in the BOAL International U14 Tournament. Companies? Isn’t FC ‘s-Gravenzande a club? Indeed it is, but one that can easily match a company where pro- fessionalism is concerned. Frank Boers, whose company is the main sponsor of the tournament, has recogni- sed that a long time ago already and greatly appreciates it. He knows from experience that things are much less well arranged at many other sports clubs. Leo van der Lans, chairman for 15 years already, knows this from his own experience. He refers to the impor- tant steps the club made in terms of professionalism at the time of the merger in 2010. Those steps led to a club with more than 1600 members, with several people in full time employment and with a radiation that goes beyond ‘s-Gravenzande, Westland and even the Netherlands nowadays. BOAL Systems also has great presence. Worldwide nowadays. When he started, Frank found a company with 90% of its revenue in the Netherlands. Today this percentage applies to business in countries all over the world, albeit still mainly through Dutch partners. Countries where the knowledge and expertise from Westland is highly valued and wanted. Africa, Asia, Equador …. Westlanders are everywhere. BOAL Systems and FC ‘s-Gravenzande have many similarities. Their roots in Westland, the enormous deve- lopment in recent years and their expectations for further growth in the future. This includes the inevitable challenges that come with this: employees, facilities, financing and more. Talking to these two “masters” is like the proverbial “In for a penny ……” They can’t stop talking about com- pany, club, region and industry. With the BOAL International U14 Tournament their pride reaches its peak. The organisation warmly welcomes you to our “Juliana Sportpark” for the BOAL International U14 Tournament. Players, referees, management, fans and spectators, sponsors and volunteers …… several thousands of peop- le will be at our football ground for these three days. Since the moment the awards ceremony of last year’s edition ended, we have been working hard to arrange the 4th edition of this appealing event. The organisation is carried out by a committee consisting of Jan van der Deijl, Leo de Haan, Michiel van den Berg, Cees Molenaar, Eric Moraal, Ton v.d. Water and Theo Doelman. Together with Eric Cornelisse of Joer International, who especially builds and maintains the international contacts, the main component of the tournament is arranged: the participating teams. There are more than enough candidates, but it is important to find the right balance between Dutch clubs and teams from abroad, in order to build an engaging field of participants.. We are of the opinion that we have succeeded very well in doing this once again this year. Of course many more things need to be arranged. For instance, thinking of places where the players and ma- nagement of the teams will spend the night. This year no less than 58 host families for as many as 126 players play a special role in this element. More about host families can be found further on in this magazine. Catering is another important part which requires a lot of preparation. Anyone that visits the “Juliana Sport- park” during these three days, regardless whether as a participant, volunteer, referee, sponsor or spectator, they all need to be able to get something to drink and eat at the right times. And what to think about (assistant) referees? We are the only tournament of its kind that supplies all matches with a fully neutral arbitrary trio. All matches, that is no less than 80, which means we need dozens of “men in black” . We have mentioned our volunteers earlier already. During these three days an amazing number of 120 of them are helping in many different ways to make the event a success. Where would we be without them? Finally, our sponsors are of the utmost importance. With BOAL Systems in the lead as our main sponsor (please also see the interview with managing director Frank Boers further on in this magazine), followed by a long list of companies that either sponsor a team or support the tournament financially in another way. WWW.EXPOFLORA.NL BOAL TOURNAMENT SUPPORTS “JULIANA KINDERZIEKENHUIS” The BOAL International U14 Tournament is organised for very healthy kids. Unfortunately it is not possible for every kid to participate. The “Juliana Kinderziekenhuis” (childrens’ hospital) in the Hague focuses on those boys and girls that unfortunately are less healthy. During the tournament, the organisation receives nice gadgets from many of the participating teams. Last year, the initiative was born to pass on some of these gifts to the hospital, which appreciated this very much. One thing lead to another, we have now decided to make the support to the “Juliana Kinderziekenhuis” by BOAL Systems and FC ‘s-Gravenzande a continuing effort. During and after the tournament we try to fulfill a number of wishes of the children, like football tables, game computers, a bluetooth speaker for the teena- gers’ room and more toys. The “Juliana Kinderziekenhuis” opened its doors in 1885 and has since then developed into a child orien- ted hospital where the parents are closely involved in the treatments. As the only non-academic childrens’ hospital in the country, it now has a huge polyclinic and 90 clinical beds spread over three nursing depart- ments. Besides that it has an ultramodern neonatologi- cal unit, it’s own operating facilities and daycare. The special emergency department for children is unique in the region. The strength of the “Juliana Kinderziekenhuis” is that all specialists are together under one roof, which op- timises the multidisciplinary care. Because of that, the hospital has a strong regional role. It has been part of the “Haga Ziekenhuis” since 2004. Het Kyocera Stadion is daarbij de plek voor alle thuiswedstrijden. 3 In 2014 koos ADO wederom positie door een team te starten dat moest gaan voorzien in de opleiding en ontwikkeling van jonge talenten. Als opleiding voor het eerste team, maar ook als plek om met gelijkgestemden de droom om professioneel voetbalster te worden te verwezenlijken. Inmiddels is Jong ADO Den Haag Vrouwen twee keer gepromoveerd (thans uitkomend in de Topklasse, het hoogste amateurniveau) en stromen er jaarlijks drie tot vier talenten door. En ook maatschappelijk kiezen de ADO Powervrouwen positie. Als geen ander begrijpen zij dat ze een inspiratiebron kunnen zijn voor meiden en vrouwen om uit te komen voor hun dromen en die ook te verwezenlijken.

    Noa Lang Ontleed Kapsel Noa Lang heeft opvallende krulletjes, maar hier was hij vroeger zelf niet blij mee. Waarom niet? In zijn jeugd was de Duitse middenvelder Bastian Schweinsteiger zijn grootste idool. Hij had zijn haren altijd stijl naar de zijkant toe gekamd. Lang wilde dat ook, maar dat ging niet met zijn krullen. Gelukkig was Lang geen fan van David Luiz, want dat duurt wel heel lang om te laten groeien! Hoofd Al zijn hele leven lang wist hij het: ik wil profvoetballer worden. Die gedachte is nooit meer uit zijn hoofd verdwenen. Iedere dag trainde hij met de bal. Hij was zelfs aan het trainen als het regende of koud was. Dan wil je echt heel graag! Doordat hij zoveel trainde, kon hij al snel goed voetballen. Daarom moest hij van de trainer altijd tegen oudere en grotere jongens spelen, net reuzen! Maar Lang kan reuzegoed voetballen, dus kon hij het makkelijk aan. Mond Vroeger was Lang niet de makkelijkste jongen om mee samen te werken. Hij was niet op zijn mondje gevallen zei altijd wat hij dacht. Daardoor had hij regelmatig ruzie met trainers en leiders. Niet zo handig, Noa! Nu is het een stuk beter, want Lang maakt nooit meer ruzie op het voetbalveld. Rug Ben jij weleens op je rug gevallen tijdens het voetballen? Dan weet je dat het veel pijn kan doen! Dat weet ook Lang. Hij viel op zijn zestiende hard op zijn rug tijdens het voetballen. De dokter wist niet eens of hij daarna nog kon sporten! Dagenlang mocht hij niet veel bewegen om te herstellen.

More surprisingly, no athletes were listed among the 300 or so entries, either in a generalist or specific category: perhaps, because of the significance of amateurism as a prevailing ethos in sport until the 1960s. Während Wolfsburg nach zuvor zwei knappen und torreichen Niederlagen in Frankfurt und gegen die Bayern am Mittwoch beim VfB Stuttgart mit 3:1 zurück in die Spur gefunden und sich damit bereits das Ticket für einen europäischen Wettbewerb gesichert hat, feierte der BVB beim 2:0 gegen Union Berlin seinen dritten Sieg in Folge. Mit aktuell fünf Zählern Vorsprung vor der Borussia befindet sich der VfL in der Pole-Position, die Dortmunder sind eigentlich zum Siegen verdammt, um vier Spieltage vor Schluss wieder richtig in den Showdown um die Königsklasse eingreifen zu können. Während die historische Bundes- liga-Bilanz zwar eindeutig für Schwarz-Gelb spricht, hat Grün-Weiß in dieser Saison allerdings bewiesen, gerade zuhause gegen jeden Gegner bestehen zu können. Das 2:3 gegen die Bayern war nicht nur unglücklich und am Ende unnötig, es war zugleich erst die allererste Saisonniederlage im heimischen Rund. Und überhaupt: 57 Punkte nach 30 Partien bedeuten die drittbeste Bilanz aller Zeiten für den VfL. Nur in der Meistersaison 2008/2009 (60) und in der Vize-Meister-Saison 2014/2015 (61) waren die Wölfe besser. Positiv ist auch, dass mit den beiden Außenverteidigern Kevin Mbabu und Paulo Otavio zwei zuletzt gesperrte Defensivkräfte zurückkehren, auch Captain Josuha Guilavogui dürfte zu Ende diese letzten englischen Woche der Saison nach verletzungsbedingtem Ausfall wieder eine Option sein.
