Fall 2020 Volume 26, Issue 1 Fudge Fest 2020!!!

It’s our 6th annual Fudge Fest! This fundraiser is the largest fundraiser for our school and we’ve added a couple of exciting items this year. The first is a sponsorship program (see page 2), the sec- ond is a website (columbuschristian.org/fudge) where you can simply go online, order your fudge, and pay with a card. With these new additions we have boosted our sales quite a bit!

We also added incentives for our students this year. They can win lanyards/bracelets once they sell 10 boxes, a mini candy bouquet if they sell 30 boxes, and a mystery trip (after covid restrictions are eased) if they sell 40 boxes as an individually or 60 boxes as a family! The students have really re- sponded and are doing fantastic with their sales this year!

This year, the school board decided to believe for BIG results and challenged us with a BIG goal! Our goal is $17,000 in fudge sales and/or sponsorships. So far we have more than $10,000! Could you help us get us over the finish line? You have from now until November 11th to get place your order. “...increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Luke 2:52 3 What’s New at CCS

Choose Joy has been the theme of our school this semester. It is not always easy to fulfill this mandate—one does not always feel joyful. But by faith, we choose joy and we encourage our students to choose joy as well. The hallmark of Chrisitanity is that we don’t live by what we see, hear, or feel but we live according to the Word of God –...though you have not seen him, you love him; even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9 Grasping hold of the promise in this verse, “you...are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy”, a person can realize that it really comes down to choosing to allow God to fill us with that joy—we have Jesus and truly that is enough to fill my heart clear to the brim and overflow- ing—It is joy unspeakable and full of glory! -Liana Holt, CCS Office Manager of Events Vision Doug Holt, VP of the Board November Vision: the ability to think about or the 11/27-11/29 NO School - Happy future with imagination or wisdom. By using wisdom and faith we can see CCS families working together to meet the 12/18 CCS Christmas Program needs of our school-now and in the future. Looking to the past for wisdom, and into the future with faith, we remain faithful to 12/23-1/4 Christmas Break the call. How do you see the school in five years, 1/5 Professional Development ten years? A story I once heard told about two Day inmates in a jail cell looking out the window at January night, one said to the other inmate “look at all the stars in the sky”, the other said “all I see is 1/6/2020 School Resumes bars”. The moral of this story is both were right. When you look into the future of CCS, TBD Soup Supper (Jan. or Feb.) are you looking for the stars or are the bars in your way today? Look again, there are people at CCS that are leaning over the edge, looking for a path of growth; help anchor them as they forge a path we all can follow. I believe God has a plan for CCS and it’s a plan for success, a plan for life, a plan for victory and growth.

4 Preschool –Miss Megan

We are pleased to have our pre- school program up and running this year! Megan Stocker is our new di- rector and has some great vision for enhancing and growing this pro- gram. She and her husband have recently moved to Columbus and are expecting thier first child in December!

The preschool class was able to take the ever-popular pumpkin patch trip to Poppy’s Pumpkin Patch. The class met together at the pumpkin patch to enjoy the beautiful fall day.

Kindergarten & 1st Grade ”Remember” -Mrs. Wieberdink

In Kindergarten and First grade we have been learning about how God took care of the children of Israel. After God opened the Jordan River for them to cross, they gath- ered 12 stones to REMEMBER what God had done for them and so that they could RE- MEMBER to tell their children. We made and painted stones of REMEMBRANCE to help us RE- MEMBER what God has done and so we can tell our children. These are the things our class remem- bers that God has done.

Emily - stars - The sun moon and stars bowed to Joseph, God took care of Joseph. - heart - God took care of me when I was afraid in the dark. Cora - Red Sea - God parted the Red Sea so they could cross - heart - I was sick and had to go to Urgent Care. God helped me feel better. Sophia –Red Sea –God opened the water. cross –I had a bad cough, I closed my eyes and Mom cried. I prayed for God to make me better. He did! Caleb –Red Sea-God took care of the Israelites and parted the Red Sea. cross –God takes car of me. Emma –Jordan River –God opened the river so they could cross. cross –Jesus died for our sins and He rose again, God to care of my little brother too! Mrs. W –Rainbow –God protected Noah and his family when the flood came, God will protect us too. -heart –God took care of our family when our son was in the ICU What do you remember that God has done for you? 5 2nd & 3rd Grade “Reading is Power” –Mrs. Beck

2nd and 3rd grade students in Mrs. Beck’s class experience first hand the power in reading as they are given a stem challenge without directions or additional details. After trying for a few minutes to build a catapult, students stopped and discussed why it was so hard. “ You didn’t tell us how!” exclaimed one student. “ This must be a lesson,” inferred another. Students were then given a written text that included the directions and a picture of the cata- pult they were challenged to build. When Mrs. Beck’s class tried again, everyone was successful and students experienced the difference between completing the activity with and without reading directions. The biggest takeaway from the activity was that reading is a key to unlocking knowledge.

4th, 5th, & 6th “Living History”–Mrs. Tobiason

This year we have a couple of new stu- dents in our classes, Levi Brant-4th Grade & Tayllir Hopkins—5th Grade. Our students enjoyed a local field trip to one of the treasures we have right here in Columbus. They walked to the Hig- gins Memorial and learned about World War 2 history, Andrew Higgins, and the “Higgins boats”. It was a great way to still have a field trip, get out into the community, and 4th, 5th, to learn through experience. & 6th Field Trip to Higgins Me- morial 6 You Can Support
