Celtic FC and RSC Anderlecht have both found the going tough in Group B, although one club will have the consolation of a place in the UEFA Europa League in the spring, with Celtic holding the advantage ahead of matchday six. • The Scottish club were 3-0 winners in Belgium on matchday two and, with both clubs losing all their other games, hold a three-point cushion in third place as a result. Anderlecht must therefore win by a three-goal margin in Glasgow to overtake their opponents; if they win 3-0, the Belgian outfit finish third on overall goal difference. Previous meetings • The clubs' only past contests before this season came in the 2003/04 group stage, when each won their home game although neither side was able to progress from Group A. • The first match in Belgium finished 1-0 to Anderlecht, scoring 18 minutes from time for Les Mauves, who played 64 minutes with ten men after captain Glen De Boeck collected a second yellow card in the 26th minute. That is Anderlecht's only win against Scottish opponents from 11 attempts (D4 L6). • Dindane was on target again at Celtic Park, striking in the 77th minute after Ivica Mornar had missed a penalty, but by then the hosts led 3-0 through goals from Henrik Larsson (12), Liam Miller (17) and Chris Sutton (29). That 3-1 victory proved crucial as Celtic edged out Anderlecht for third place in the section on head-to-head record after the duo ended level on seven points. • The line-ups at Celtic Park on 21 October 2003 were: Celtic: Hedman, Agathe, Baldé, Varga, McNamara, Lennon, Petrov, Miller (Gray 76), Larsson, Sutton, Hartson (Maloney 83; Sylla 90+1). Anderlecht: Zítka, Deschacht, Kompany, Żewłakow, Baseggio, Hendrikx (Kolář 63), Hasi, Wilhelmsson, Tihinen, Mornar, Dindane. • Olivier Deschacht played in both games and is still in the Anderlecht squad. Match background Celtic • Celtic have lost both home games in Group B, going down 5-0 against Paris Saint-Germain in their opening fixture – the Hoops' heaviest home defeat in Europe – before a 2-1 reverse at the hands of FC Bayern München on matchday four. • Celtic halted a ten-game (D3 L7), four-year winless run in the UEFA Champions League group stage by overcoming Anderlecht on matchday two, their biggest away victory in the UEFA Champions League. Their previous win had been a 2-1 home success over AFC Ajax on 22 October 2013. • The Anderlecht win is the Hoops' only victory in 19 European group stage fixtures in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League (D7 L11). • Celtic have won just two of their last eight European home matches (D2 L4). • Celtic have won only one of their last nine home games in the UEFA Champions League proper (D1 L7). • In 2016/17 the Glasgow club came fourth in their section, collecting three points from six games. They drew at home to Manchester City FC (1-1) and lost 2-0 to both VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Barcelona. • Celtic started this season in the second qualifying round, beating Linfield FC (2-0 away, 4-0 home) and then Rosenborg BK in the third qualifying round (0-0 home, 1-0 away). They posted a fifth straight clean sheet with a 5-0 win against FC Astana in the home first leg of their play-off, advancing despite a 4-3 loss in Kazakhstan. • The Scottish champions have won all three European games against Belgian visitors. In addition to that 2003 defeat of Anderlecht, they got the better of KAA Gent in the 1984/85 European Cup Winners' Cup first (3-0) and K. Beerschot AC at the same stage of the 1991/92 UEFA Cup (2-0), winning both ties 3-1 on aggregate. Anderlecht • Anderlecht have never won in Scotland, where their record is D2 L3. • Before this season, 19 teams had lost all six games in a UEFA Champions League group stage. Having done so in 2004/05, Anderlecht would join GNK Dinamo Zagreb as the only clubs to suffer that fate twice should they lose in Glasgow. • Anderlecht have not faced Scottish opposition other than Celtic in 25 years, beating Hibernian FC on away goals in the 1992/93 UEFA Cup first round (2-2 away, 1-1 home). • The Belgian club have not won an away game in the UEFA Champions League, group stage to final, since a 1-0

4 Celtic FC - RSC Anderlecht Tuesday 5 December 2017 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit Celtic Park, Glasgow victory at Real Betis Balompié on 6 December 2005. Their away record since then reads D8 L6; this season they have lost 3-0 at Bayern and 5-0 at Paris. • In 2016/17, Anderlecht fell to FC Rostov in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. Moving into the UEFA Europa League, they went all the way to the last eight – their first European quarter-final since losing to FC Internazionale Milano in the 1996/97 UEFA Cup – eventually bowing out to Manchester United FC (1-1 home, 1-2 away aet). Coach and player links • Derdryck Boyata grew up in Brussels and was at FC Brussels from the age of 13 to 16 before joining Manchester City in 2006. • Matz Sels, Leander Dendoncker and Boyata are international team-mates with Belgium. • Andy Najar's Honduras earned a 1-1 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw against a Costa Rica side including Cristian Gamboa on 28 March 2017. Match facts Celtic • Jozo Šimunović is a booking away from a ban. • Celtic are 67 domestic matches unbeaten, eclipsing their own British record of 62 set by Willie Maley's team between 1915 and 1917. The Hoops came within two minutes of surrendering their unbeaten run at Motherwell FC on 29 November before Scott Sinclair equalised from the penalty spot; they beat the same opponents 5-1 on Saturday. • Celtic have now scored in 72 successive domestic matches dating back to 5 April 2016. • The Hoops have won just three of their last eight home games in all competitions. • Patrick Roberts suffered a hamstring injury against Motherwell on 29 November and has been ruled out for three months. • Celtic lifted the first domestic silverware of the season on 26 November beating Motherwell 2-0 in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park thanks to second-half goals from James Forrest and a Moussa Dembélé penalty. • With the League Cup triumph, Brendan Rodgers became the first Hoops manager since Jock Stein to win four consecutive domestic trophies. • Kieran Tierney, 20, became the youngest Celtic player to captain his country when he led Scotland out in their 1-0 friendly defeat by the Netherlands on 9 November. Anderlecht • Anderlecht have failed to score in five of their last 11 games in all competitions. • Massimo Bruno laid on three assists as Anderlecht beat KV Kortrijk 4-0 on 26 November. • Anderlecht have lost nine of their last 22 matches in all competitions. • Anderlecht were knocked out of the Belgium Cup on 29 November, going down 1-0 at home to R. Standard de Liège in the round of 16.

9 Celtic FC - RSC Anderlecht Tuesday 5 December 2017 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit Celtic Park, Glasgow Head coach Brendan Rodgers Date of birth: 26 January 1973 Nationality: Northern Irish Playing career: Ballymena United FC, Reading FC Coaching career: Watford FC, Reading FC, Swansea City AFC, Liverpool FC, Celtic FC • Began his career as a defender with Ballymena in his native Northern Ireland before moving to English club Reading at the age of 18. Troubled by persistent injuries, he was forced to give up playing aged 20 having never made a senior appearance for the Royals. • Became academy boss at Reading in 1995, spending nine years in the role. His talents were spotted by José Mourinho and Rodgers was given a leading role in the Chelsea FC youth system in 2004, stepping up to reserve team manager in 2006. • Left Chelsea for his first managerial post at second-tier Watford in November 2008 and guided the Hornets to a 13th- place finish. Returned to Reading in the summer of 2009 but only remained until December despite a promising start to the season. • Stayed in the second division when appointed Swansea manager in July 2010 and guided the club into the Premier League via the end-of-season play-offs. Enhanced his repuation as he led the Welsh outfit to an 11th-place finish in their first top-flight campaign since 1982/83. • Left Swansea for Liverpool in June 2012, steering the Reds to seventh in the Premier League in his first term and into the UEFA Europa League round of 32. Oversaw an 11-game winning streak in the second half of the 2013/14 season that almost brought Liverpool's first league title since 1990, but lost out to Manchester City FC. Rodgers was dismissed in October 2015, resurfacing at Celtic the following summer, and proved an instant hit in Scotland, winning the treble in his first season which ended with Celtic going through the entire domestic campaign undefeated. Hein Vanhaezebrouck Date of birth: 16 February 1964 Nationality: Belgian Playing career: KWSC Lauwe, RC Doornik, KV Kortrijk, KRC Harelbeke, KSC Lokeren OV Coaching career: KSC Lokeren OV (assistant), KSV Ingelmunster, SW Harelbeke, KWSC Lauwe, KV Kortrijk (twice), KRC Genk, KAA Gent, RSC Anderlecht • A creative defender with a good pass, Vanhaezebrouck had a solid playing career in Belgian football. He enjoyed notable spells with Harelbeke and Lokeren before hanging up his boots in 2000. • After two years as assistant at Lokeren, he took the job of head coach at Ingelmunster in 2002. He also coached at former clubs Harelbeke, Lauwe and Kortrijk, whom he took over in 2006. • In Vanhaezebrouck's second season his brand of fresh, creative football steered Kortrijk to the second division championship. Vanhaezebrouck also became famous by searching for a left winger on the internet, a hunt which culminated in the signing of forward Istvan Bakx, who became known as the Google striker. • Vanhaezebrouck's attacking approach attracted interest from Genk, whom he joined in 2009, but after a bad start he was fired in November with Genk in 12th place. The next season he returned to Kortrijk and steered them to the final in 2012, which they lost to Lokeren, although Vanhaezebrouck was voted Belgian coach of the year. • After four years he left Kortrijk again to join Gent in the summer of 2014. He led the club to its first Belgian Championship in 115 years and won the in July 2015. Vanhaezebrouck won the Award, a special coaching award from the Royal Belgian Football Association, which a coach can only win once, and took Gent into the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League round of 16. He joined Anderlecht in October 2017.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • In 2012/13, Chelsea became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to CSKA Moskva. • In 2016/17 Real Madrid became the first team to successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy, with Milan (1989, 1990) the previous club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featured against Real Madrid on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldest outfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens in 2006/07. • Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in Roma's 1-1 draw at CSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder. • is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for Anderlecht against Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg on 1 October 1997. • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen on 7 March 2012, a feat matched by Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Eleven more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid CF on matchday six in 2015/16. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing his own mark of nine goals in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15. Lionel Messi got ten goals in 2016/17; Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight. • Messi's hat-trick on matchday three of the 2016/17 competition was his seventh in the competition, a record Ronaldo matched against Club Atlético de Madrid in the 2016/17 semi-finals. • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 18 occasions, three more than Real Madrid and four more than Manchester United and FC Bayern München. • Bayern München (2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013) and Real Madrid (23 April 2014 to 18 February 2015) jointly hold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten. Bayern surpassed the previous mark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. • Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain (1994/95), Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12 and 2014/15). • Nineteen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, most recently Club Brugge KV and GNK Dinamo Zagreb in 2016/17. • Borussia Dortmund set a new group stage record by scoring 21 goals in 2016/17, eclipsing the old mark of 20 by Manchester United (1998/99), Barcelona (2011/12, 2016/17) and Real Madrid (2013/14). • Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05), Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) and Dinamo Zagreb (2016/17) have failed to score in a group stage. • BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new record which was matched by Legia Warszawa in 2016/17. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13); Malmö FF shipped 21 in 2015/16. • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15) and Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, a mark FCSB surpassed on matchday six in 2013/14.

17 Celtic FC - RSC Anderlecht Tuesday 5 December 2017 - 20.45CET (19.45 local time) Match press kit Celtic Park, Glasgow

• RSC Anderlecht hold the unwanted record for successive defeats in the competition, group stage to final, having lost 12 in a row between December 2003 and November 2005. GNK Dinamo Zagreb are next with 11 consecutive losses on two occasions, from September 2011 to December 2012 and again from 29 September 2015 onwards. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and AS Roma in 2015/16. Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia Warszawa (1995/96), Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Liverpool (2001/02), Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus (both 2002/03), Rangers and Werder Bremen (2005/06) and Basel 1893 (2014/15). • Napoli failed to qualify from their group with 12 points in 2013/14, the highest total of any team not to reach the next stage when the top two in each section progressed. Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Borussia Dortmund (2002/03 – both second group stage), PSV Eindhoven (2003/04), Olympiacos and Dynamo Kyiv (both 2004/05), Werder Bremen (2006/07), Manchester City (2011/12), Chelsea and CFR 1907 Cluj (both 2012/13), Benfica (2013/14) and FC Porto (2015/16) all missed out with ten points. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München.
