ENARSON GYM The Spartans men’s basketball team will look to pick up its first win of the season against MacEwan, as Trinity Western hosts the Griffins Friday and Saturday back on campus at the David. E. Enarson Gymnasium. WEEKEND PREVIEW Friday, Nov 29th vs. MacEwan – 8 p.m. PT Saturday, Nov 30th vs. MacEwan – 7 p.m. PT THE WEEKEND STORY • This weekend is a matchup of two teams looking for their first win of the year as both sides are 0-6 to start the 2019-20 season. • Both games will be played at the Spartans former home on campus at Trinity Western University, the David. E. Enarson Gymansium. • The Spartans return home after a pair of losses on the road to unbeaten and No. 2 ranked Calgary, while MacEwan visits after losing to Thompson Rivers in both its home games last weekend. • TWU will look for Ja’Qualyn Gilbreath (Amarillo, Tex.) to carry its offence, as the fourth-year transfer is currently sixth in conference scoring (20.5 ppg). • The Spartans will need to contain Griffins rookie Luke Harold, who is currently second in conference 3-pt percentage, sitting at 57.1%. • TWU and MacEwan last played Feb. 2-3 2018, with both teams splitting games in Edmonton. • The last time TWU played a regular season game at David E. Enarson Gymnasium was in 2016-17 (Dec. 1-2), with the Spartans falling in a pair of games against Brandon. • The Spartans last win was against MacEwan on Feb. 2, 2018 when TWU knocked off the Griffins 97-88 in Edmonton. Ethan DaSilva (Calgary) and Aaron Paetkau (Parksville, B.C.) are the only two current Spartans who remain from the 2017-18 TWU squad. TWU also competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) in men's hockey and as an independent team in men's rugby. The men's and women's hockey programs will begin playing in Canada West and U SPORTS in 2020-21. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 12 U SPORTS team championships and 27 Canada West team championships and two BCIHL championships.
