He is part of the supergroup La Coka Nostra along with all three original House of Pain members, and former Non Phixion frontman Ill Bill. The group has a highly anticipated album coming out in July which features guest spots from Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Bun B, Immortal Technique and The Alchemist among others. Slaine has toured across the country twice this year as the main support for indie giants Tech N9ne and The Kotton Mouth Kingz, and he will be with La Coka Nostra on The Rock The Bells Tour this summer. In 2007, Slaine played a supporting role in the movie “Gone Baby Gone” which was directed by Ben Affleck and starred Casey Affleck, Morgan Freeman, and Ed Harris. Slaine also had two songs on the soundtrack. It is clear that Slaine has a growing fan base both in the US and internationally and a bright future, all of which began with his first street CD The White Man is the Devil Volume 1, which has sold 12,000 copies without distribution since being pressed up as a slimline CD in 2005. This recording is considered a classic in his native Boston as it chronicles addiction, racism, crime, and hopelessness in the unique city with a distinct and powerful voice, accent and style that would later propel him to a larger stage. Now available for retail for the first time, Leedz Edutainment is proud to present the official release of Slaine’s The White Man is The Devil Volume 1. In stalking the streets of Boston, Amadeus The Stampede has solidified himself as one of the best up and coming MCs in the Rap world. While battling schizophrenia for the past six years, the Stampede has laid a foundation for a promising career in music. With hundreds of shows under his belt and a lengthy catalogue of exceptional original music, the madman shows no signs of slowing down. House of Broken Mirrors is his best work to date under the direction of Leedz Edutainment. According to Leedz “It’s a concept album that takes you on a journey into his mind through stages of battling mental illness, drug abuse, violence, in addition to maintaining relationships with his friends and family while trying to stay alive in the streets of Boston. He’s pushing boundaries with his musical content through life experiences.” The album features collaborations with Sean Price of Heltah Skeltah, Slaine, Reef The Lost Cauze, Reks, Rite Hook, and J The S, along with heavyweight production from Matty Trump, Guns N Butter, J.Ferra and many more. Blending genius production with his unique raps, Lowdown Suite is a truly refreshing Hip Hop masterpiece. Moka Only is a dynamic artist with a career that spans over 10 years, 26 LPs and 400,000 records sold independently. He has won three Juno's, seven Much Music video awards and so much more, Moka is easily one of the hardest working emcee / producers in music period. At an early age Moka Only discovered his love for Hip Hop culture entering the scene as a graffiti artist. He later began displaying his skills as a MC rhyming at house parties and then later moving to San Diego in the early 90s where began his illustrious career as a MC and Producer. Moka Only is also a founding member of Swollen Members. However, a group dynamic was not for Moka and he soon moved on to a solo career. Although best known for his rapping, Moka was also building his resume as a quirky producer with a knack for mixing live and sampled instruments. While the majority of Moka's musical output has been self-produced, his beats are also sought after by a wide range of underground artists. He has gained the admiration of his peers, industry professionals and fans alike. Moka Only has collaborated with the late great J Dilla, MF Doom, Aceyalone, Buck 65, K-Os, Sadat X and Oh No just to name a few.

THE B-BOY SUMMIT INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED B-BOY/B-GIRL EVENT Produced by No Easy Props OVERVIEW The B-boy Summit continues to be a major trendsetter in Hip-Hop street dance, art and music culture. Established in 1994, The Summit presented innovative ideas in Hip-Hop culture, offering a conference forum complete with competitions, performances, panels, workshops, and a marketplace for consumer friendly products marketed toward the Hip-Hop community. Never content with success, The B-boy Summit continues its mission to bring the hottest street dance, art, and music above ground to the masses. The B-boy Summit has grown into an internationally acclaimed 3 day festival incorporating all aspects of Hip-Hop in different plateaus, including the most intense battles, rawest circles, theatre performances, a DJ/MC Talent Showcase and live aerosol art painting. The B-boy Summit was created in 1994 out of the need for a community orientated Hip-Hop event that encompassed knowledge of the history of Hip-Hop culture and the skills of B-boying and B-girling. At that point in time B-boys and B-girls didn’t have a platform in which to come together, dance and pay homage to the traditional dance of Hip-Hop. Each year the event has expanded to encompass B-boys, B-girls, MCs, Aerosol Artists, and DJs from across the globe, steadily building into what is now the foremost Hip-Hop cultural event in the world. More recently, The Summit has become one of the most important events for Lockers, Poppers, Freestyle and House Dancers to take part in during The Summit’s Funk Fest.

  • Kutmasta Kurt.” That Was Like the Beginning of the Strain
ROCK KUTTIN’ IT WITH KURT 44.www.importtuner.com REDNECK GAMES KUTMASTER KURT TEXT BY JOEL MARASIGAN Hip hop music had a universal fiber when it was—in the spirit of MTV—brand-spanking new. Hip hop was sung and chanted. Hip hop was more than just music. It was a style: a life style, a spirit, a feeling. Today’s hip hop has lost a lit- tle of its elegance and originality mainly because artists exaggerate the “money, hoes and power” stereotype. There are a select few who remember hip hop’s roots and its inten- tions. There are a select few who are still accepted when they remove their headphones and backpacks and don the pink fur, ice the grill and jump in the Range. 05.03.2nr.45 son they were like, “We don’t want your name on it. We’ll pay you, but you can’t put KutMasta Kurt.” That was like the beginning of the strain. At the time I wanted to wrap-up a project with Keith (the Masters Of Illusion project)—and because I had already been working with Motion Man (who was on the back burner for 10 years)—I had to finish Black Elvis. We still went on to do the Dr. Dooom and Masters Of Illusion albums and I still helped with the Matthew album. But after that I was really just Keith’d out. He wanted to keep going, but I didn’t like the direction and I needed to take a break. He was- n’t too happy about that.

Racial Gatekeeping in Country & Hip-Hop Music By Cervanté Pope Student ID #: 947767021 Portland State University Pope 2 Introduction In mass communication, gatekeeping refers to how information is edited, shaped and controlled in efforts to construct a “social reality” (Shoemaker, Eichholz, Kim, & Wrigley, 2001). Gatekeeping has expanded into other fields throughout the years, with its concepts growing more and more easily applicable in many other aspects of life. One way it presents itself is in regard to racial inclusion and equality, and despite the headway we’ve seemingly made as a society, we are still lightyears away from where we need to be. Because of this, the concept of cultural property has become even more paramount, as a means for keeping one’s cultural history and identity preserved.

Contact: [email protected] Choutouts: Language contact and US-Latin hip hop on YouTube Matt Garley This paper presents a corpus-sociolinguistic analysis of lyrics and com- ments from videos for four US-Latinx hip hop songs on YouTube. A ‘post-varieties’ (Seargeant and Tagg 2011) analysis of the diversity and hybridity of linguistic production in the YouTube comments finds the notions of codemeshing and plurilingualism (Canagarajah 2009) useful in characterizing the language practices of the Chicanx community of the Southwestern US, while a focus on the linguistic practices of com- menters on Northeastern ‘core’ artists’ tracks validate the use of named language varieties in examining language attitudes and ideologies as they emerge in commenters’ discussions. Finally, this article advances the sociolinguistics of orthography (Sebba 2007) by examining the social meanings of a vast array of creative and novel orthographic forms, which often blur the supposed lines between language varieties. Keywords: Latinx, hip hop, orthography, codemeshing, language contact, language attitudes, language ideologies, computer-mediated discourse. xzibit napalm album free mp3 download Xzibit. Alvin Nathaniel Joiner (born September 18, 1974 in Detroit, Michigan), better known by his stage name Xzibit, is an American rapper, actor, and host of MTV's Pimp My Ride. He began his music career as a member of the Likwit Crew, a loose collective of West Coast rappers including King Tee, Defari, and Tha Alkaholiks. He released his solo debut album 'At The Speed Of Life' in 1996 and has since released 5 more albums, his latest being Full Circle, released in 2006. His new album Napalm is expected to be released sometime in 2012. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Joiner moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, with his father when he was ten years old (his mother had passed away when he was nine years old). Around this time, as he did not have any entertainment, he began writing poems. Around the age of 13, he started getting into trouble with the local police. By the time he was 14, he served a short stint in juvenile detention. Finally around 17 years old he had been expelled from several Albuquerque high schools for allegedly raping his guidance counselers. At that point, he moved with $3,000 to Los Angeles, California in his purple and black Geo Tracker to pursue his dream. Xzibit got his start as a member of the Likwit Crew a loose collective of West Coast rappers including Tha Alkaholiks and King T. After touring with them in 1995, Loud Records released the feisty young rapper's debut album, At The Speed Of Life (1996).
