Similarly, within the chip carrier, the technology of wire communication also becomes more demanding with the increase in the number of contacts and the density of the pin. Each outlet technology will have specific reflow requirements. As the processor and memory frequency increases above 30 MHz or so, the electrical alarm increasingly switches to differential alarms on parallel buses, causing a new set of signal integrity problems. The evolution of the CPU connector is about the couloction of all these technologies in tandem. Modern processor sockets are almost always designed in combination with the heat-thin installation system, or in devices with lower power, other thermal considerations. The processor connector function is made of plastic, and often comes with a lever or latch, and with metal pins for each of the pins or ground on the processor. Many packages are key to ensuring that the processor is properly inserted. Processors with a PGA pack (pin-mesh array) are inserted into the socket and, if included, the latch is closed. Processors with the LGA package (ground mesh array) are inserted into the socket, the latch plate flips into a position on top of the processor, and the lever is lowered and locked in place, tightly pressing the CPU's contacts to the ground and providing a good connection as well as increased mechanical stability.
