Song Lyrics – in Alphabetical Order Song Lyrics – In Alphabetical Order A Lot of Livin' to Do There are guys just ripe for some kissin' And I mean to kiss me a few! Oh, those guys don't know what they're missin' I've got a lot of livin' to do! And there's wine all ready for tastin' And there's Cadillacs all shiny and new! Gotta move, cause time is a-wastin' There's such a lot of livin' to do! There's music to play, places to go, people to see! Everything for you and me! Oh, life's a ball If only you know it And it's all just waiting for you You're alive So come on and show it There's such a lot of livin' to do There's music to play, places to go, people to see! Everything for you and me! Life's a ball, if only you know it! And it's all just waiting for you! You're alive, so go on and show it! There's such a lot of livin' to do! Such a lot of livin' to do! What a lot of livin' to do! Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man Spoken: Oh listen, sister, I love my mister man And I can't tell you why There ain't no reason for me to love that man It must be somethin' that the angels done plan Fish got to swim, birds got to fly, I got to love one man till I die. Can't help lovin' that man of mine. Tell me he's lazy, tell me he's slow, Tell me I'm crazy, maybe I know, Can't help lovin' that man of mine. When he goes away, That's a rainy day, And when he comes back that day is fine, The sun will shine! He can come home as late as can be, Home without him ain't no home to me, Can't help lovin' that man of mine. Everything's Coming Up Roses I had a dream... A dream about you, baby It's gonna come true, baby They think that we're through But, baby... You'll be swell, you'll be great Gonna have the whole world on a plate Starting here, starting now Honey, everything's coming up roses! Clear the decks, clear the tracks You got nothing to do but relax Blow a kiss, take a bow Honey, everything's coming up roses! Now's your inning Stand the world on its ear Set it spinning That'll be just the beginning! Curtain up, light the lights You got nothing to hit but the heights You'll be swell, you'll be great I can tell, just you wait That lucky star I talk about is due Honey, everything's coming up roses For me and for you! You can do it All you need is a hand We can do it Momma is gonna see to it Curtain up, light the lights We got nothing to hit but the heights I can tell, wait and see There's the bell, follow me And nothing's gonna stop us 'til we're through! Honey, everything's coming up roses and daffodils Everything's coming up sunshine and Santa Claus Everything's gonna be bright lights and lollipops Everything's coming up roses For me and for you... 42nd Street Spoken: In the heart of little old New York You'll find a thoroughfare It's the part of little old New York That runs into Times Square A crazy quilt that "Wall Street Jack" built If you've got a little time to spare I want to take you there Come and meet Those dancing feet On the avenue I'm taking you to Forty-Second Street Hear the beat Of dancing feet It's the song I love the melody of Forty-Second Street Little nifties from the Fifties Innocent and sweet Sexy ladies from the Eighties Who are indiscreet They’re side by side, they're glorified Where the underworld Can meet the elite Where the underworld Can meet the elite Forty-Second Street I Can Cook Too Oh, I can cook, too, on top of the rest, My seafood's the best in the town. And I can cook, too. My fish can't be beat, My sugar's the sweetest around. I'm a man's ideal of a perfect meal Right down to the demi-tasse. I'm a pot of joy for a hungry boy, Baby, I'm cookin' with gas. Oh, I'm a gumdrop, A sweet lollipop, A brook trout right out of the brook, And what's more, baby, I can cook! Some girls make magazine covers, Some girls keep house on a dime, Some girls make wonderful lovers, But what a lucky find I'm. I'd make a magazine cover, I do keep house on a dime, I make a wonderful lover, I should be paid overtime! 'Cause I can bake, too, on top of the lot, My oven's the hottest you'll find. Yes, I can roast too, My chickens just ooze, My gravy will lose you your mind. I'm a brand new note On a table d'hôte, But just try me à la carte. With a single course You can choke a horse. Baby, you won't know where to start! Oh, I'm an hors d'oeuvre, A jelly preserve, Not in the recipe book, And what's more, baby, I can cook! Some girls make wonderful jivers, Some girls can hit a high "C", Some girls make good taxi drivers, But what a genius is me. I'd make a wonderful jiver, I even hit a high "C", I make the best taxi driver, I rate a big Navy "E"! 'Cause I can fry, too, on top of the heap, My Crisco's as deep as a pool. Yes, I can broil, too, My ribs get applause, My lamb chops will cause you to drool. If I Were a Bell Ask me how do I feel Ask me now that we're cozy and clinging Well sir, all I can say is if I were a bell I'd be ringing! From the moment we kissed tonight That's the way I've just got to behave Boy, if I were a lamp I'd light And If I were a banner I'd wave! Ask me how do I feel, little me with my quiet upbringing Well sir, all I can say is if gate I'd be swinging! And if I were a watch I'd start popping my springs! Or if I were a bell I'd go ding dong, ding dong ding! Ask me how do I feel from this chemistry lesson I'm learning Well sir, all I can say is if I were a bridge I'd be burning! Yes, I knew my moral would crack From the wonderful way that you looked! Boy, if I were a duck I'd quack! And if I were a goose I'd be cooked! Ask me how do I feel, ask me now that we're fondly caressing Pal, if I were a salad I know I'd be splashing my dressing Ask me how to describe this whole beautiful thing Well, if I were a bell I'd go ding dong, ding dong ding! Just In Time Just in time I found you just in time Before you came my time Was running low I was lost The losing dice were tossed My bridges all were crossed Nowhere to go Now you're here And now I know just where I'm going No more doubt or fear 'Cause I found my way For love came just in time You found me just in time And changed my lonely life That lovely day. Now you're here And now I know just where I'm going No more doubt or fear 'Cause I found my way For love came just in time You found me just in time And changed my lonely life That lovely day! Losing My Mind The sun comes up, I think about you The coffee cup, I think about you I want you so, it's like I'm losing my mind The morning ends, I think about you I talk to friends, I think about you And do they know it's like I'm losing my mind? All afternoon doing every little chore The thought of you stays bright Sometimes I stand in the middle of the floor Not going left, not going right I dim the lights and think about you Spend sleepless nights to think about you You said you loved me, or were you just being kind? Or am I losing my mind? I want you so, it's like I'm losing my mind Does no one knows it's like I'm losing my mind All afternoon doing every little chore The thought of you stays bright Sometimes I stand in the middle of the floor Not going left, not going right I dim the lights and think about you Spend sleepless nights to think about you You said you loved me, or were you just being kind? Or am I losing my mind? People People, People who need people, Are the luckiest people in the world We're children, needing other children And yet letting a grown-up pride Hide all the need inside Acting more like children than children Lovers are very special people They're the luckiest people in the world With one person One very special person A feeling deep in your soul Says you were half now you're whole No more hunger and thirst But first be a person who needs people People who need people Are the luckiest people in the world A feeling deep in your soul Says you were half now you're whole No more hunger and thirst But first be a person who needs people People who need people Are the luckiest people in the world! Popular Whenever I see someone less fortunate than I And let's face it, who isn't less fortunate than I? My tender heart tends to start to bleed And when someone needs a makeover I simply have to take over I know, I know exactly what they need And even in your case Though it's the toughest case I've yet to face Don't worry, I'm determined to succeed, follow my lead And yes, indeed, you will be Popular, you're gonna be popular I'll teach you the proper poise when you talk to boys Little ways to flirt and flounce, ooh! I'll show you what shoes to wear, how to fix your hair Everything that really counts to be Popular, I'll help you be popular You'll hang with the right cohorts, you'll be good at sports Know the slang you've got to know So let's start 'cause you've got an awfully long way to go Don't be offended by my frank analysis Think of it as personality dialysis Now that I've chosen to become a pal A sister and adviser, there's nobody wiser Not when it comes to Popular, I know about popular And with an assist from me to be who you'll be Instead of dreary who-you-were, well, are There's nothing that can stop you from becoming popu-ler, lar La la, la la We're gonna make you popular When I see depressing creatures With unprepossessing features I remind them on their own behalf to think of Celebrated heads of state or Especially great communicators Did they have brains or knowledge? Don't make me laugh! They were popular Please, it's all about popular It's not about aptitude, it's the way you're viewed So it's very shrewd to be Very, very popular like me Why, Miss Elphaba, look at you You're beautiful! I, I have to go Seasons of Love Five hundred twenty-five

“Carnegie Hall Concert with Buck Owens and His Buckaroos”—Buck Owens and His Buckaroos (1966) Added to the National Registry: 2013 Essay by Scott B. Bomar (guest post) * Original album Original label Buck Owens and His Buckaroos In the fall of 1965, Buck Owens was the biggest country star in the world. He was halfway through a string of sixteen consecutive #1 singles on the country chart in the industry-leading “Billboard” magazine, and had just been invited to appear at New York City’s prestigious Carnegie Hall. Already designated a National Historic Landmark, the esteemed venue had hosted Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Gershwin, Bernstein, and Ellington. Owens recognized the honor of being asked, but instructed his manager, Jack McFadden, to decline the offer. “When they first started talking about it, it scared me to death,” he admitted in a 1967 radio interview with Bill Thompson. Buck was worried the Manhattan audience wouldn’t be interested in his music, and he wanted to avoid the embarrassment of unsold tickets. McFadden pushed him to reconsider. When Ken Nelson, Owens’ producer at Capitol Records, suggested they record the performance and release it as his first live album, Buck finally conceded. Buck Owens’ journey to the top of the charts and the top of the bill at the most revered concert hall in the United States began in Sherman, Texas, where he was born Alvis Edgar Owens, Junior in 1929. By 1937, the Owens family was headed for a new life in California, but they wound up settling in Mesa, Arizona, when a broken trailer hitch derailed their plan.

I examine how song and dance – sites of aesthetic difference within the musical – can warp time and enable marginalized and semi-marginalized fans to imagine different ways of being in the world. Musical numbers can complicate a linear, developmental plot by accelerating and decelerating time, foregrounding repetition and circularity, bringing the past to life and projecting into the future, and physicalizing dreams in a narratively open present. These excesses have the potential to contest naturalized constructions of historical, progressive time, as well as concordant constructions of gender, sexual, and racial identities. While the musical has historically been a rich source of identification for the stereotypical white gay male show queen, this project validates a broad and flexible range of non-normative readings.

So, naturally Americans have a really hard time talking about the class system, because they really don’t want to admit that the class system exists.

  • Biu Withers by Rob Bowman He Was the Leading Figure in the Nascent Black Singer-Songwriter Movement of the Early 1970S
PERFORMERS BiU Withers By Rob Bowman He was the leading figure in the nascent black singer-songwriter movement of the early 1970s. BILL WITHERS WAS SIMPLY NOT BORN TO PLAY THE record industry game. His oft-repeated descriptor for A&R men is “antagonistic and redundant.” Not surprisingly, most A&R men at Columbia Records, the label he recorded for beginning in 1975, considered him “difficult.” Yet when given the freedom to follow his muse, Withers wrote, sang, and in many cases produced some of our most enduring classics, including “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lean on Me,” “Use Me,” “Lovely Day,” “Grandma’s Hands,” and “Who Is He (and What Is He to You).” ^ “Not a lot of people got me,” Withers recently mused. “Here I was, this black guy playing an acoustic guitar, and I wasn’t playing the gut-bucket blues. People had a certain slot that they expected you to fit in to.” ^ Withers’ story is about as improb able as it could get. His first hit, “Ain’t No Sunshine,” recorded in 1971 when he was 33, broke nearly every pop music rule. Instead of writing words for a bridge, Withers audaciously repeated “I know” twenty-six times in a row. Moreover, the two-minute song had no introduction and was released as a throwaway B-side. Produced by Stax alumni Booker T. Jones for Sussex Records, the single’s struc ture, sound, and sentiment were completely unprecedented and pos sessed a melody and lyric that tapped into the Zeitgeist of the era. Like much of Withers’ work, it would ultimately prove to be timeless.

Start with some religious references from hero’s JPG&R on this Holy weekend right here on BWTB… 3 OPEN Paul McCartney – Heaven On A Sunday – Flaming Pie ‘97 Written in August 1996 while in the US, it featured Linda and son, James McCartney who contributed the lead guitar. George Harrison – My Sweet Lord - All Things Must Pass ‘70 This was the major smash hit of the album by Christmas 1970. It was originally intended for the Edwin Hawkins Singers (who had record, “Oh Happy Day,” which greatly influenced “My Sweet Lord.” George had also let Billy Preston release his own version before George’s – but it was George’s version that was the huge hit and remains the biggest single song success of his entire solo career. 4 Ringo – Oh My Lord – Choose Love John Lennon – God - Plastic Ono Band ‘70 This was the definitive track on the LP. This song was “stuck together” from three different, unfinished compositions. This included a laundry list of John’s opinions on his lost beliefs (namely people and philosophies). This was the song that confirmed the Beatles were over – John revealed he didn’t believe in the band, nor was Paul the walrus. John finally reveals that he was indeed the walrus.
