Il regista non sembra voler rinunciare al potenziale creativo dell'immaginazione infantile che ha conservato lungo la sua vita, riproponendocelo nelle sue opere. Nei suoi lavori infatti, ci viene mostrato il suo sogno ed il suo immaginario, che non ha la pretesa di risultare realistico e veritiero, ma anzi, il regista lo propone proprio come se lo ricorda: la messa in scena del sogno, avviene (nonostante la sua straordinaria esperienza tecnica) con delle crepe ed imprecisioni, recuperando in questo modo parte di quell'incompletezza ed ambiguità che fanno parte dell'immaginazione. Queste piccole imperfezioni invitano lo spettatore (che accetta di ritornare bambino) ad una partecipazione permettendogli così di entrare, se è disposto a credere, nei sogni del regista. La tesi si articola in sei capitoli: il primo è la biografia e la vita del regista, il secondo riassume i lavori selezionati per la stesura della tesi, il terzo analizza la riflessione teorica che passa attraverso il film Be kind rewind per arrivare alla sua concretizzazione con il Be kind rewind project; il quarto esamina i mondi ed i personaggi che individualizzano e qualificano le opere del francese dando risalto agli spazi del sogno, del ricordo e della natura; il quinto è una piccola ricerca sugli effetti speciali e leit motiv ricorrenti nei lavori del francese permettendo così una miglior comprensione del capitolo finale dove viene approfondita la relazione tra oggetto, materiale, attore e spettatore definendo così il concetto di crepa, gioco ed imperfezione. Michel Gondry (a known French director) in his audiovisual works (films, music videos, documentaries and commercials) represents his childhood dreams, that seem to be his main source of inspiration. The director does not want to renounce the creative potential of the childhood imagination, which has conserved throughout his life, letting us see it in his works. In its works, in fact, is shown to us his dreams and his imagination, which is not meant to be realistic and truthful, but rather, the director shows it just as he remembers: the staging of the dream is done (despite his extraordinary technical expertise) with cracks and imprecisions, recovering in this way a part of the incompleteness and ambiguity which are part of the imagination. These small imperfections invite the viewer (who agrees to return a child) to a participation allowing him to enter, if he is willing to believe, in the dreams of the director. The thesis is structured on six chapters: the first one is the biography and life of the director, the second outlines the works chosen for the elaboration of the thesis, the third analyzes the theoretical reflection that passes through the film Be Kind Rewind to find his concretisation in the Be kind rewind project, the fourth one examines the worlds and characters who qualify and individualize the works of the french, giving prominence to the spaces of dream, memory and nature. The fifth is a little research about the special effects and the recurring leit motiv of the director, allowing the final chapter to be better understood. Non tutti sanno che, la carriera del regista comincia molto prima, nel 1987, quando realizza il suo primo videoclip per il gruppo musicale Oui Oui di cui è il batterista. Oltre ad essere un pioniere, assieme a Spike Jonze e a Chris Cunningham, a quello che diverrà uno dei mezzi comunicativi musicali più efficaci, Gondry dirige anche cortometraggi, documentari e spot (tra cui il premiato

Gondry has directed feature films (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind, The Science of Sleep), documentaries (Dave Chappelle's Block Party), music videos for Bjork, Radiohead, The White Stripes, and Daft Punk, and numerous award-winning commercials. Unstable Platforms: The Promise and Peril of Transition ‘Teaching Smart Cinema: DVD Add-ons and New Audience Pleasures’ Pat Brereton © [Extracts from ‘Cinema in Transformation: Smart Cinema, DVD Add-ons and New Audience Pleasures’ Palgrave Press 2011/2] Many scholars categorize new digital films, using concepts ranging from database narratives (Manovich), forking path narratives (Bordwell), multiple draft narratives (Branigan and Bordwell), twist films (Wilson 2006), complex narratives (Staiger, 2006), modular narratives (Cameron, 2006), puzzle films (Buckland, 2009) including Elsaesser‟s mind-games taxonomy. All of these terms help to flesh out this study‟s exploration of smart cinema, alongside new forms of digital film making and contemporary audience consumption. The term „Smart cinema‟ acquired popular currency in academic circles in the late 1990s. The most coherent explanation has been put forward by Jeffrey Sconce‟s essay (Screen 2002), who argues that smart films reflect the presence of a growing „culture of irony‟ and parody. Its intended audience is apparently the disillusioned yet highly educated new generation who display a form of ironic contempt and emotional distancing from their surroundings and socio-cultural existence. Smart movies like Donnie Darko broadly encapsulate what have been described as reflexive and playful postmodern texts, which in turn are augmented by the specific attributes of new digital media. These new attributes draw upon technological innovations facilitated by the computer and the internet, alongside the proliferation of video games and music videos, together with other new generational e-pleasures and e-cultural tastes. This paper will use films like Be Kind Rewind to demonstrate the importance of smart cinema for new generations, while drawing on the special issue on DVD add-ons for Convergence (2007) which I edited, that focused on how add-ons can strengthen the overall appeal of this consumer fan-driven medium and at the same time incorporate significant educational applications.

Brigham Young, President of the Quorum of the Twelve, and several other apostles had just returned from missions. The purpose of this meeting was to determine by vote who had the right and responsibil- ity to lead the Church—Sidney Rigdon, first counselor in the First Presidency, or the Quorum of the Twelve with Brigham Young at their head.1 In the course of the two meetings held that day, many in attendance received a divine witness that Brigham Young was to be the next leader: some Saints specifically state that Brigham Young assured the congregation that “here is President Sidney Rigdon, who was counselor to Joseph.
