January 1 In the morning, the President and his daughters Malia and Sasha traveled to Honolulu, HI, where at the East-West Center (EWC) at the University of Hawaii, they met with new EWC President Richard R. Vuylsteke and outgoing President Charles E. Morrison. The President's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng also attended. Later, he and his daughters Malia and Sasha traveled to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where President Obama's grandfather Stanley Dunham is buried. Then, they returned to their vacation residence in Kailua, HI. In the afternoon, the President, Mrs. Obama, and their daughters Malia and Sasha traveled to Bellows Air Force Station in Waimanalo, HI. Later, they returned to their vacation residence in Kailua. In the evening, the President, Mrs. Obama, and their daughters Malia and Sasha traveled to Buzz's Lanikai restaurant. Later, they returned to Washington, DC, arriving the following morning. During the day, the President had an intelligence briefing.
