Phillip Robbin Beth Bedard Doesn’t Fish Lake contain a unique species of rainbow trout? Research Co- How will the fish be monitored during operations? What would a monitoring plan entail? ordinator Where do the fish in Fish Lake spawn? Will development of the mine lead to the deeding of land around Fish Lake? Pat Chelsea Why does Taseko Mines say that the existing experience at Fish Lake is medium? Has there been any polling done of local users? Don’t users rank the experience as high? What criteria did you use to rank the experience as medium? If you have fish suited to a particular habitat that grow to a certain size, even if it is smaller than normal, what is wrong with that? How will you use Big Onion as a compensation lake? How do the fish be moved? Will the lakes be joined together? How big will the pit be? Has acid rock drainage been considered? How large is the tailings area? Will there be seepage from the tailings storage sites to local rivers such at the Chilko? Will there be employment and economic opportunities for the Esketemc? Blackdome Mine has recently hired a number of contractors from outside the area and jobs are not available to the local labour force. Will Taseko operate in this manner as well? Has the routing for the transmission line been selected? Has the Esketemc done archaeology and traditional use studies on the power line corridor? (TSK) Who will do the archaeology work? Why has Arcas been hired? Why weren’t the Esketemc consulted? Esketemc should be considered as an archaeological consultant. Beth Bedard is an archaeologist who has had permits in the past How will the Esketemc be informed about the requirement for archaeology and traditional use studies? How far does the Esketemc interests along the transmission line extend? (TSK) How did the Esketemc use the land on a seasonal basis? (TSK) Will the Esketemc be able to access power from the line going to the mine? Will the line be a private line? Would Taseko consider trading power for the right to use the right-of-way? The Esketemc anticipate that they will have a demand for 3-phase power for a proposed sawmill development on I.R, #9. Also, Alkali Lake Ranch would like to access to 3-phase power. How much wider would the right of way have to be to accommodate a distribution line? What other archaeology or traditional use work has been done in the area? (TSK) Could a distribution line be run from the substation at Dog Creek or the new Taseko sub-station? Are migration corridors identified on the wildlife capability map? Can Esketemc get copies of the mapping that has been done along the transmission corridor? Esketemc would like 1:20,000 maps. Penny Foster Will the water in our tailings pond look as bad as Highland Valley Copper? Phillip Robbin How many years will we be mining? Pat Chelsea Chief Bill Chelsea Will we be building a mountain and is the project as big as Highland Valley? Andy Chelsea How will we be leaving the area after the mine is closed? (councilor) Andrew expressed anger with the Chilcotin who are not even in the treaty process. He does not agree with the overlaps. What are the Chilcotin people telling us? Have we contacted third parties and what do they say? (Doug Mervyn, Larry Ramstad) Have we been in touch with the CCC to discuss the Land Use Plan. Will we ever be looking at bringing a road over from Bralorne? This would cause major problems for Esketemc. Several of the Esketemc community members stressed the importance of having their own people working on the arch. and traditional use studies. They mentioned McKewin Creek, Ward Creek, Mosquito Valley as areas of concern. They would like to have power so they could irrigate Wycott Flats. Were the other power line options cancelled because the bands involved made a lot of noise and if not why were they cancelled? Both Pat and Andy Chelsea said that if the project was a go then the Esketemc wanted something out of the mine (opportunity for jobs written in a contract). Bill expressed concern over the size of the power line. The band has serious problems with work that ARCAS has done for the forest service. Who has the final decision on the importance of the arch sites? Esketemc got a court injunction to stop a pipeline crossing the Fraser River. Andy suggested that ARCAS might do a good job if someone stays on their case.
