Graphic Communication students are given opportunities in the computer lab to develop computer skills and familiarity with software used by professional graphic artists. This course emphasizes a solid background in the art elements and principles of and . Experimentation and creative will be an important component of this course. Not all assignments will be completed in the computer lab.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to: * Produce graphic artwork that displays knowledge of the elements and principles of design. * Understand the role of computer in applied graphic arts and communication industries * Demonstrate competency in the use of computer aided design, paint, and layout programs. *Demonstrate proper behavior and work ethics when working in the Graphics Communication Lab.

All students need the following art supplies for class each day: Pencil and eraser Notebook binder - to hold course handouts and assignment sheets. Fine line black marker * Individual sets of colored pencils and markers are optional, but encouraged.

► Work is graded for originality and , design aspects, craftsmanship, and compliance with established project guidelines.

►Final grades are based on computer projects, classroom assignments, tests, and classroom attendance, preparation and participation. Quarter grades are calculated as follows: Summative assignments 60%, Formative assignments 40%.

Grades Grades will follow the County guidelines: A – 90-100 B – 80-89 C – 70-79 D – 60- 69 F – 59 and below

Class Procedures and Expectations: • Students are expected to arrive to class on time and ready to work. • Students are expected to do their best on all assignments. • Cooperation, teamwork and respect for others is a must! • Students are responsible for all supplies, and to follow school computer use rules and regulations. • It is the student’s responsibility to request missed work due to absences.

This Class is Designed for Success! Students who attend class regularly, use class time wisely, complete each assignment, and turn in assignments on time do very well in this course. Students are expected to strive for creative solutions and to do their best on each assignment. Artistic graphic design is a skill to be developed and refined through study and practice.
