Background: John 6:1-21 John the Baptist has been executed by King Herod. Jesus sails across the Sea of Galilee to find rest. But, there will be no rest for Jesus or his men… MrMacBible.com John 6:1 After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias. MrMacBible.com John 6:2 A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick. MrMacBible.com John 6:3-4 Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. MrMacBible.com John 6:5-6 Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?” He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. MrMacBible.com John 6:7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.” MrMacBible.com John 6:8-9 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these amongst so many?” MrMacBible.com Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. John 6:10 MrMacBible.com John 6:11 Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired. MrMacBible.com When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.” John 6:12 MrMacBible.com John 6:13 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten. 11 MrMacBible.com John 6:14 When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.” MrMacBible.com Sea Of Galilee John 6:15 Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself. MrMacBible.com When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea. They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. John 6:16 MrMacBible.com John 6:17-18 It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them. The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing. MrMacBible.com John 6:19 When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia (3-4 miles), they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid. MrMacBible.com John 6:20 But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.” MrMacBible.com John 6:21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going. MrMacBible.com THINK ABOUT IT… Jesus fed a crowd using a boy’s lunch, and then walked across the sea… What do these stories teach us about Jesus? I am the bread of life! John 6:22-46 Background: Whoever comes to him, he will satisfy! Whoever comes to him, he will give eternal life! Whoever comes to him, he will never push away! Come to Jesus… Cry out to him… Jesus loves you! MrMacBible.com John 6:22 On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone. MrMacBible.com John 6:23 However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. MrMacBible.com John 6:24 When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. MrMacBible.com John 6:25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” MrMacBible.com John 6:26 Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.” MrMacBible.com John 6:27 “Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.” MrMacBible.com John 6:28 They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?” MrMacBible.com Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” John 6:29 MrMacBible.com They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’ ” John 6:30-31 MrMacBible.com John 6:32 Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.” MrMacBible.com John 6:33-34 “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” MrMacBible.com John 6:35-36 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.” MrMacBible.com John 6:37 “All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.” MrMacBible.com John 6:38-39 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.” MrMacBible.com John 6:40 “This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” MrMacBible.com John 6:41 The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down out of heaven.” MrMacBible.com John 6:42 They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven?’” MrMacBible.com John 6:43-44 Therefore Jesus answered them, “Don’t murmur amongst yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.” MrMacBible.com John 6:45 “It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learnt, comes to me.” MrMacBible.com John 6:46 “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.” MrMacBible.com THINK ABOUT IT… Jesus said “Whoever comes to me will not be hungry…” Have you come to Jesus? What are you most hungry for in life? Do you want to leave me too? John 6:47-7:1 Background: 1,500 years before Jesus was born, God dropped food on the Israelites every morning for 40 years.

BY JOHN CALVIN, Newly Translated From The French Original With An Introductory Dissertation On The Miraculous Images, As Well As Other Superstitions, Of The Roman Catholic And Russo-Greek Churches. TO THE PROTESTANTS OF GREAT BRITAIN AND OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA THIS LITTLE WORK IS RESPECTFULLY DEDICATED BY THE TRANSLATOR. 3 PREFACE. THE Treatise on Relics by the great Reformer of Geneva: is not so generally known as it deserves, though at the time of its publication it enjoyed a considerable popularity.F1 The probable reason of this is, that the absurdity of the relics described in this Treatise has since the Reformation gradually become so obvious, that their exhibitors make as little noise as possible about their miraculous wares, whose virtues are no longer believed except by the most ignorant part of the population of countries wherein the education of the inferior classes is neglected. And, indeed, not only Protestants, but many enlightened Roman Catholics believed that all the miracles of relics, images, and other superstitions with which Christianity was infected during the times of mediaeval ignorance would be soon, by the progress of knowledge, consigned for ever to the oblivion of the dark ages, and only recorded in the history of the aberrations of the human mind, together with the superstitions of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Unfortunately these hopes have not been realized, and are still remaining amongst the pia desideria.

06/06/2021 Saint George The Great Martyr Eastern, Orthodox Church Hesperia CA.92345 TEL:760-244-9223 Dn.George: 760-792-8604 Website:WWW.STgeorgeoca.org 6th Sunday after Pascha Blind Man CHRIST IS RISEN, INDEED HE IS RISEN! Christ is risen! Indeed, He is risen! Today my brothers and sisters in Christ, we commemorate Saint Celidonius who was blind from birth. He was born without eye sockets and eyes; undoubtedly, the LORD could have healed the blind man by just commanding the healing with His Word. Instead, the LORD made mud from the ground with His saliva and placed it on the eyes of Saint Celidonius. By this, the Evangelist showed the Jews and shows us that the Word of God, without Whom “nothing was made that was made” (John 1:3), “the LORD God who formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life” (Gen 2:7), was dwelling (tabernacling; Jn 1:14) among His people, restoring His creation made ill by sin to the image of God. He commanded the man to wash in the pool of Siloam for the healing to be accomplished, and the blind man obeyed. By this prophetic action, the Evangelist brings to our attention the baptismal waters by which the LORD illumines us and begins the process of restoring in us the image of God: the Church calls this Theosis. Saint Celidonius received healing because he obeyed the LORD, and his cooperation with the LORD is what the Church calls synergy. Brothers and sisters let us cooperate with the LORD through prayer, fasting, almsgiving and participation in the life of the Church as He works daily to restore the image of God in us! Tone 5 Troparion (Resurrection) Let us, the faithful, praise and worship the Word, co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, born for our salvation from the Virgin; for He willed to be lifted up on the Cross in the flesh, to endure death, and to raise the dead//by His glorious Resurrection.

There are examples in the Old (Tobit 2:17) and New (Mark 8:22-26) Testaments of blind people receiving sight, but this is something completely unprecedented. The Savior placed clay in the man's empty sockets and told him to wash in the pool of Siloam. When he obeyed these instructions, the eyes of clay became living eyes!
