In the end, the audience becomes the performer, performance and artist. As the performer watches, everyone leaves their own marks and art in the artwork I’ve created as moments of proof suspended in time. “Painting the Snow”, February 2019, Dharamshala I perform a site-specific body resonating with the winter and paint the snow. “Death on the Fountain”, January 2019, Dharamshala I die a thousand deaths on a toilet. A couple. The audience is ushered into this intimate space right beside the bed. They become unwitting participants in the performance as they share the same space. The passive male body contrasts with the active female body of sexual desire, rejection and longing. What is rejection? What is female sexuality? Is a Dalit woman from the Indian subcontinent allowed a sexuality? How does this female political body move and process sexual rejection? “Letting Go of the Child I Raised”, January 2019, Dharamshala I rise from an unlit pyre and shoot an imaginary arrow with a wooden stick - metaphor for the one-way direction of life flow. I use various hurdles to process the different paths. I use a resistance band to unfurl from but get more entangled instead. The band comes up to my neck and the resistance starts to take the life out of me as I suddenly fall with peak resistance force. “This is a Necessity”, December 2018, Dharamshala Performing only what is necessary at that moment with only movement of the body without rules. “Between the Seen and the Unseen”, December 2018, Dharamshala With a long sturdy tie and bell around my waist to keep me anchored, I traverse the conscious, subconscious and unconscious, and perceive multiple physical and non-physical realms. Why is a female body offensive? Does using the body as a tool mean completely giving up sexuality? Does she need your permission to use her body? “A Painter's World”, July 2018, Dharamshala I perform the torment of being haunted by the lynched, murdered, hanging dehumanized bodies of the girls of Badaun as I worked through the current environment in this country. “Dehumanized Possessed Body”, July 2018, Dharamshala I let my body become transparent.
