CAMP MUSICAL THEATER CAMP ACTING THEATER CAMP ​ July 11 to 22, 2016 July 25 to August 5, 2016 August 8 to 19, 2016 ​ ​ ​ ​ Performance: July 21 at 6 p.m. Performance: August 4 at 6 pm Performance: August 18 at 6 pm Summer camp at Steel River Playhouse offers the most comprehensive K-12 educational theater program in the region: ​ *Three two-week theater camps share diverse lessons in theatrical skills while culminating in a final performance for parents! *Based on number of hours and price for TWO WEEKS of programming! Camp breaks down to just over $5 per hour for those enrolled in the full two week day program who use the before and after care program. *Each of our exciting themed camps ends in a fully staged theatrical production for parents and the community! *Even better, your child has a fun-filled, exciting day planned for them each day that includes lessons in collaboration, , play-building, and much more! *The arts build confidence and promote out of the box thinking – but are frequently neglected during the school year! SRP summer camp 2016 registration form Camp 2016 Program Guide Three separate sessions to fit your family’s summer schedule: FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE our staff will also provide extra hours of camp, prior to the start of our morning session ​ (8-9am), and at afternoon’s end (4-6pm), to help parents negotiate their busy day. Sign up for the entire 2-week session or a la carte only on the days where early or late care is needed! Lower Camp (entering grades 1-4) M-F 9am-12 noon (half-day) $250 OR 9am-4pm (full-day) $499 Does your child love to play pretend? Sing? Dance? Lower Camp features it all! In the morning, students will focus on skill-building in , movement, and acting in a creative and playful environment. Enroll for the full day and get the learn-by-doing experience with a performance-based approach as the kids work collaboratively to create a play. Lower Camp runs during each session with presentations on the final Friday afternoon of the session. Upper Camp (entering grades 5-12) M-F 9am-4pm $499 (that’s just $249.50 a week for a 40 hour camp week!) Steel River is proud to continue its summer program of quality instruction, followed by end-of-camp performance opportunities, giving all students their moment to shine! Half of the day will be spent developing skills in various areas of performance which will then be applied during the rehearsal process. Final performances will be drawn from theme related material, to be enjoyed by family, friends and the public on the final Thursday and Friday of each camp session. The first 2 sessions of camp will each focus on the experience with instruction in acting, music and dance. The first camp is geared also towards actors who don’t sing, where comedy and circus acts will be explored. Students will employ their skills in scenes, songs and sketches from the great Vaudeville stage specifically chosen for each age group. Break out classes in specific areas will also take place during the day for a more intensive focus on one of the skills associated with the camp. Vaudeville Comedy, Music and Circus Arts Camp – Session 1 July 11 to 22 – Vaudeville! Music, Comedy and Circus Arts are all explored so that both singers and non­singers can follow a ​ path they will enjoy during camp. Creation of an original Vaudeville show will culminate in a comedic and music filled performance on the second Thursday of camp in the evening, and during the lunch hour of the final Friday of camp. A pizza ​ cast party and strike of the set will take place during the final Friday afternoon.

Musical Theater Camp – Arabian Nights – Session 2

July 25 to August 5 – Arabian Nights! A musical theater camp (singing, dancing, acting) exploring the theme of Arabian ​ ​ ​ ​ Nights: The Tales of a Hundred and One Nights. A bright, colorful theatrical presentation will be performed on the second ​ Thursday of camp in the evening, and during the lunch hour of the final Friday of camp. A pizza cast party and strike of the set ​ will take place during the final Friday afternoon.

Dramatic Theater camp – One Act Festival! – Session 3

August 8 to 19 – Original One Acts! During this drama day camp, students work on writing original one acts which they then ​ ​ ​ produce and perform on the last evening of the last day of camp. The camp focuses on improvisation skills, stage combat, on camera and on stage acting techniques and much more! A one act play festival will be held on Thursday night of the second week of camp, and a second performance may be scheduled during the lunch hour of the final Friday of camp. A pizza cast party and strike of the set will take place during the final Friday afternoon.
