The Chaser’s War On Everything – Red Button Edition Jimeoin Over The Top Thursday at 9pm from May 6 WORLD PREMIERE Brought up in Portstewart, Northern Ireland, comedian Jimeoin stars in JIMEOIN: OVER THE TOP which follows the star’s antics on the road and on stage while touring across the northern-most parts of Australia, his adoptive home. This funny warts-and-all series is part travelogue, part fishing trip and part stand-up show which sees Jimeoin travel all over Australia - from Broome via Darwin to Byron Bay and beyond! Included in this series will also be his performances at the iconic Sydney Opera House, World Famous Spiegel tent and the highly popular Jimeoin's Cooking Show filmed in Adelaide. Jimeoin’s crew is also his friends, cameraman Hamish and childhood pal and tour manager Fergus. Viewers will also get to know the trio travel across country by car, van, planes and skateboard. The gig venues are unconventional too - cattle stations, police stations, pubs and restaurants, as well as the occasional swimming pool. If you’ve had the pleasure of enjoying his comedy shows, you’ll love this series as Jimeoin not only delivers some brilliant stand-up, but also takes us on the most extraordinary fun road trip across Australia. The Chaser’s War On Everything – Red Button Edition Thursdays at 8.30pm from May 6 SUBSCRIPTION TV PREMIERE and featuring EXCLUSIVE COMMENTARY As hilarious as it is controversial, and a runaway Australian TV success story, THE CHASER’S WAR ON EVERYTHING is little short of a phenomenon. The Chaser was founded in 1999 as a fortnightly satirical newspaper produced out of a spare bedroom by initial editors Charles Firth, Craig Reucassel, Julian Morrow, Dominic Knight, who were later joined by the far more talented Andrew Hansen, Chas Licciardello and Chris Taylor. And only THE COMEDY CHANNEL brings it to you with our special RED BUTTON EDITION – featuring exclusive commentary for each episode from The Chaser themselves, but there’s more! You can also not only watch the episode, but also watch the guys as they react, reminisce and add an extra layer of comedy on to the show! You just haven’t seen THE CHASER’S WAR ON EVERYTHING until you’ve experienced THE COMEDY CHANNEL’S RED BUTTON EDITION . Not these. FUR TV, a recipient of the BBC Greenlight Award, is an outrageous British sitcom about the residents of Furry Avenue, where people and puppets live side-by-side. • Download Martin Clune's Citation
9 Nov 2007, 1030 MARTIN CLUNES Pro-Chancellor, Martin Clunes is an actor of national renown who has played in a very wide range of film, television and stage productions, and first achieved his huge following for his role as Gary in Men Behaving Badly. His many other successes include the lead role in Doc Martin, and in feature films such as Shakespeare in Love. He is a son of the classical actor Alec Clunes and a cousin of the late Jeremy Brett, television’s Sherlock Holmes, so perhaps Martin’s school should not have been taken by surprise when he told the careers adviser that he too wanted to be an actor. The headmaster was discouraging (‘it’s not going to happen: buckle down’) but a teacher who evidently had some foresight saw his potential and put him in Love’s Labour’s Lost as Costard, the clown who is also very much at home with wit and wordplay. So his first performance was a comedy part in a classic play, and if comedy drama has been his forte ever since, he has by no means lost contact with the classics. Martin went to the Arts Educational Schools in London, on the strength of an audition, at the age of 16, and then into repertory, now more often playing Shakespeare’s courtiers than his fools. He made his name in the long-running TV situation comedy Men Behaving Badly, where he played Gary Strang, a character described (and I quote) as a ‘lager-loving loafer’. The show, its stars and and its writer have won many awards, and it was voted the best sitcom in the BBC's history at the Corporation's 60th anniversary celebrations in 1996.

www.comedychannel.com.au OCTOBER 2008 HIGHLIGHTS THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW WORLD PREMIERE Thursday October 2 @ 8.30pm Continues Thursdays at 8.30pm Merrick and Rosso are back on the box where they belong, with the keys to the Foxtel car - and enough fuel in the tank to really cause some chaos! They’ll finally return to their broadcasting birth place at The Comedy Channel with THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW. So what’s on the cards for the new show? Each week the boys will front up before a live studio audience with their unique take on anything and everything. From what’s happening in the world of news to the big questions: Can you deep fry a watermelon? On THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW, celebrities will make regular guest appearances from in-studio interviews to recorded comedy pieces to show you a side of them never before seen. Into the mix will go plenty of studio audience interaction and more mayhem and stupidity than is legal in three states. For perhaps the first time, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross will truly focus the energy and excitement of their legendary sell-out live comedy shows and bring that force to the electric television. It’s hotter than Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen, is sure to top Brendan Nelson’s approval ratings and it’s ‘wronger’ than an Austrian family get-together. THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW will allow nobody to be immune from their parodies and sketch comedy. Finally, as Merrick and Rosso are keen to point out, “Put simply, the show is Morcambe and Wise meets The Star Wars Christmas Special at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting during The French Renaissance… on a weeknight.” Buckle up Australia, for a riotous half hour of THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW.

  • Stephen Harrington Thesis
PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE BEYOND JOURNALISM: INFOTAINMENT, SATIRE AND AUSTRALIAN TELEVISION STEPHEN HARRINGTON BCI(Media&Comm), BCI(Hons)(MediaSt) Submitted April, 2009 For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology, Australia 1 2 STATEMENT OF ORIGINAL AUTHORSHIP The work contained in this thesis has not been previously submitted to meet requirements for an award at this or any other higher education institution. To the best of my knowledge and belief, the thesis contains no material previously published or written by another person, except where due reference is made. _____________________________________________ Stephen Matthew Harrington Date: 3 4 ABSTRACT This thesis examines the changing relationships between television, politics, audiences and the public sphere. Premised on the notion that mediated politics is now understood “in new ways by new voices” (Jones, 2005: 4), and appropriating what McNair (2003) calls a “chaos theory” of journalism sociology, this thesis explores how two different contemporary Australian political television programs (Sunrise and The Chaser’s War on Everything) are viewed, understood, and used by audiences. In analysing these programs from textual, industry and audience perspectives, this thesis argues that journalism has been largely thought about in overly simplistic binary terms which have failed to reflect the reality of audiences’ news consumption patterns. The findings of this thesis suggest that both ‘soft’ infotainment (Sunrise) and ‘frivolous’ satire (The Chaser’s War on Everything) are used by audiences in intricate ways as sources of political information, and thus these TV programs (and those like them) should be seen as legitimate and valuable forms of public knowledge production.

  • "WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC: POLKAS, PARODIES and the POWER of SATIRE by Chuck Miller Originally Published in Goldmine #514
"WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC: POLKAS, PARODIES AND THE POWER OF SATIRE By Chuck Miller Originally published in Goldmine #514 Al Yankovic strapped on his accordion, ready to perform. All he had to do was impress some talent directors, and he would be on The Gong Show, on stage with Chuck Barris and the Unknown Comic and Jaye P. Morgan and Gene Gene the Dancing Machine. "I was in college," said Yankovic, "and a friend and I drove down to LA for the day, and auditioned for The Gong Show. And we did a song called 'Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung.' And the audience seemed to enjoy it, but we never got called back. So we didn't make the cut for The Gong Show." But while the Unknown Co mic and Gene Gene the Dancing Machine are currently brain stumpers in 1970's trivia contests, the accordionist who failed the Gong Show taping became the biggest selling parodist and comedic recording artist of the past 30 years. His earliest parodies were recorded with an accordion in a men's room, but today, he and his band have replicated tracks so well one would think they borrowed the original master tape, wiped off the original vocalist, and superimposed Yankovic into the mix. And with MTV, MuchMusic, Dr. Demento and Radio Disney playing his songs right out of the box, Yankovic has reached a pinnacle of success and longevity most artists can only imagine. Alfred Yankovic was born in Lynwood, California on October 23, 1959. Seven years later, his parents bought him an accordion for his birthday.
