After years in the consulting world he joined the Vancouver Professional Chapter where he helped to launch Fair Trade Vancouver, and travelled to Ghana as a Professional Fellow. Shortly after, Mark joined the National Office as part of the Executive Team, leading a Talent Team that attracts, engages, and enables system change leaders in full time roles within the organization. The Engineering Change Lab: The Engineering Change Lab (Eng Lab) is a multi-year, multi-stakeholder forum to unlock the full potential of the engineering profession by addressing complex challenges that no individual stakeholder can solve alone. The initiative is co- owned by organizations from across the engineering profession in Canada (companies, government, universities, regulators, associations, and non-profits). Senior leaders from each of these organizations work together over time to advance initiatives (or experiments) to help shape the future of the engineering profession. These initiatives target the biggest challenges facing the profession in Canada: poor record of innovation, lack of diversity, failures in ethics and professionalism, exclusion of non-licensed engineers from the profession, inflexibility of the education model, etc... The Lab was initiated by Engineers Canada and Engineers Without Borders with the ongoing support of Reos Partners, who are the global leaders in the Change Lab process. As part of the secretariat, Mark Abbott supports the backbone strategy and execution of the Lab, and supports EWB’s connection to the Lab and overall work in the Engineering Leadership space. 56th Annual General Meeting pg. 2 February 24th, 2016 Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Ottawa Chapter 2 Minutes of the 55th Annual General Meeting PEO Ottawa Chapter Meeting Record March 31st, 2015 Hilton Lac-Leamy 3 Boulevard du Casino, Gatineau, QC J8Y 6X4 Present: John Hazel Guy Boone Sharon Barr Joe Podrebarac Kathryn Sutherland Sucha Mann Ingrid de Buda David Grant Gareth Wood John Kizas Hubert Mamba Sein Maung Regrets: Pierre Legault Fraser Smith Fred Harlow Shormila Chatterjee Nima Heyde Attendance: Approximately 120 members i) Call to order The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm by John Hazel. ii) Approval of Agenda Motion: To approve the agenda of the 55th Annual General Meeting (AGM). John Hazel responded that Ottawa Chapter was provided an allocation of approximately $20,300 for 2014, which is based on the activities the chapter engages, not the proportion of membership population. A follow-up question was raised as to why there was a $14,000 mutual fund account in the notes of the Financial Statement. Joe Podrebarac explained (and Ishwar Bhatia, PEO Lieutenant Governor in Council confirmed) that the Ottawa Chapter had in previous years kept a reserve in mutual funds, but this reserve is now required to be released in accordance to the Not for Profit Act. 56th Annual General Meeting pg. 4 February 24th, 2016 Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Ottawa Chapter x) Introduction of New Executive Slate: John Hazel introduced Guy Boone as the new Chair of the chapter for 2015.
