The organizing committee – European capital of culture 2020

Comprehensive list of the activities of the Organizing committee in 2013

Organization

 The Organizing committee was formed from prominent representatives, leaders of the cultural, and other public institutions and leading cultural workers. For the first time, the Organizing committee for the ECoC consists of the representatives of all three levels of authority: local, provincial, and republic;  Director of the European Danube Academy and the general coordinator of the Council of Danube Cities and Regions, Mr. Peter Langer was chosen as an advisor of the Organizing committee;  A team of experts for the European capital of culture was formed, to participate in the making of the application for the candidacy of our city;  To ensure efficient and expedient work of the Organizing committee, the Rules of order were established, which regulate the Committee’s sessions via electronic means of communication;  Commission for the official trips and the Commission for the employment of experts were formed, as well as the permanent working bodies within the Committee;

Preparation of the candidacy

- Examining the official documents, recommendations, criteria, instructions and directives for the creation of the candidacy application of Novi Sad for the European capital of culture;

- Examining previous practices and experiences of the cities- capitals, with the special accent put on the realized projects;

- Designing and realizing the seminar How to be a European capital of culture – experiences of Maribor 2012 during which the expert team of Maribor 2012 stated their attitudes towards the positive effects of gaining the European capital of culture status and towards the activities geared towards obtaining this status; - Establishing contacts and cooperation with the representatives of the European capital of culture and European officials;

- Conducting formal and informal meetings of the Organizing committee members and the Organizing team;

- Conducting meetings and constant informal communication with the members of the Slovenian team hired on a highly successfully realized project Maribor 2012;

- Lobbying – the Committee members have visited numerous European cities, where they met with the leading officials from the field of cultural and political life, and presented them with the candidacy process of Novi Sad:

Level of participation

 More than a hundred representatives from the public, cultural, non-governmental and private sector participated in a panel-discussion about the realization of the initiative that Novi Sad becomes European capital of culture in 2020. A large number of the people present, as well as their proposals from the constructive discussion, have shown that, in Novi Sad, we are going to achieve a high level of participation;

 Within the event Cultural summer on Strand, which was realized for the first time this summer on the Strand beach, Novi Sad citizens fulfilled a survey on the topic of the candidacy and submitted their proposals. For two months, the ECoC info-stand on the Strand was the central point of informing the citizens on the candidacy;  The action My suggestion for Novi Sad 2020 was initiated, so as to invite the citizens to participate directly in the project. Interested citizens of Novi Sad were encouraged to send their suggestions for the candidacy project on the official e-mail of the action: [email protected];  The project My neighborhood was successfully realized in seven largest neighborhoods of Novi Sad. This project is the most important participative project in and in the region in the last few years. During the project, the citizens of Novi Sad wrote on the boards their suggestions, wishes, proposals for their neighborhoods, and indicated certain problems of their communities;  Working groups for the program were formed, in order to realize the suggestion to include the public and the private sector in the candidacy preparation process. The groups work on suggesting the thematic concept and programme with a developed European dimension for the Novi Sad 2020 project. Eight working groups have worked in the following fields: spatial development, youth sector, third sector, museums, galleries and archives, minorities’ culture, creative industries, festivals and cultural tourism, and literary life;

Promotion

 Created the slogan: Let’s all be a team for the ECoC, so as to ensure public recognition of all the diverse promotional activities related to the campaign for the European Capital of Culture;  Created the internet presentation for the candidacy project at the address: www.novisad2020.rs in order to ensure media visibility and acquaint the citizens with the achieved results;  Media promotion for this year involved recognition of all the activities so as to achieve visibility of the work of the Committee and the Team. We organized twelve press conferences, broadcast radio and TV clips for particular activities and realized more than 40 appearances on radio and TV stations;  Promoted the Novi Sad candidacy in a very attractive way, during a biking tour in four European countries, within the ICROM project;  Promoted the candidacy within all activities, festivals, programs and lectures organized by the Cultural center of Novi Sad;  Promoted the candidacy within the most important festivals: and the Street performers’ festival;  Promoted the candidacy on the music CD by Slobodan Trkulja Kraljevstvo Balkanopolis, which was produces in 250.000 copies;  Presented and promoted the candidacy at the international festivals of folklore in Vienna, Rome, Perugia and Sicily, in the following cities: Palermo, Gangi, Bompietro, Catanzaro, Messina, Raffo, within the cooperation with the ACAS Sonja Marinkovic  Project My neighborhood contributed to the largest extent to acquainting the citizens of Novi Sad with the Novi Sad candidacy for the ECoC through their participation in the project itself, and through the media information  Realized the photography exhibition of Novi Sad, A portrait of an up and coming city in the KCNS gallery. The authors of the photographs were the participants of Novi Sad Photo marathon;  The ECoC flag was placed at the highest peak of North Africa, as well as in the African deserts, within the cooperation with the mountaineering society Maratonac;  Promoted the candidacy during the traditional half-marathon in the Italian city Palmanova;  Promoted the candidacy of Novi Sad in , at the UNESCO building, within the Tesla forum.
