Sold by Lexus since 2005, the line includes several V6 gasoline models, a four-door sedan and a two-door coupe convertible body styles. Additional sedan models are also equipped with a range of four diesel powertrains, and the F version, the IS F, has a V8 engine. The pre-sale of the second-generation IS model was first shown in 2005 at the St. Petersburg Motor Show, with the production version debuting in 2005 at the New York Motor Show. The second generation was only available as a sedan to a two-door coupe Options debuted in 2008. IS is built on a shortened version of the rear-wheel-drive mid-size platform, presented for the third generation Lexus GS, as well as the Toyota Crown and Toyota Mark X used in the Japanese market. however, the convertible coupe continued to be sold until 2014. A history of development after the start of sales of the XE10 in the U.S. in 2000, development began on its successor, the XE20 under the leadership of Chief Engineer Suguya Fukusato in 2001. The design work was done under Kengo Matsumoto for 2 years from 2002 to the end of 2003, when the final conceptual design of Hiroyuki Tada using the new corporate theme of the L-finesse style was chosen. From 2003 to the first half of 2004, the conceptual design was refined into the specification of the production design, which was then approved by the executive board. Design patents were filed in September 2004 in Japan, February 18, 2005 in Europe and February 25, 2005 with the U.S. Patent Office when the development was completed in early 2005. The exterior and internal 2008 Lexus IS 250 (GSE20; USA) Second Generation Lexus IS was the second debut of the new L-finesse lexus design philosophy on the production car after the premiere of the 2006 Lexus GS sedan. The new IS design featured smoother, coupe-like contours, a fastback profile, and a repeated arrowhead motif in the front fascia and side windows based on the Japanese concept of kirikaeshi, citing angular movements. The front design resembled an earlier Lexus LF-C concept. Compared to its predecessor, the second generation IS was 3.5 inches (89 mm) larger and nearly 3 inches (76 mm) wider, mainly due to the 2.3 inch (58 mm) wheeled base stretch. The grille was installed at a lower level than the headlights. The new IS body led to a figure of 0.28 cd. 2007 Lexus IS 350 interior (GSE21; Japan) The second generation IS interior features leather seats, a lightsaber-like electroluminescent lighting display tool and LED accents of interior lighting, 10-way (including lumbar) driver and front passenger seat power, as well as a selection of faux-metal or extra Bird's Eye wood-decoration Yamaha's maple trim. The interior design has also brought out elements from Japanese concepts, including hazushi, where the object retains individuality by being part of a larger whole, as typical of the side vents. Other available interior features include perforated leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, power incline/telescopic steering wheel, lunar hatch, electrochromic side-view mirrors, rear tan and aluminum scuff plates. The 2008 Lexus IS 250 (GSE20; Europe) Lexus IS system has standard dual front airbags, front-row knee airbags, front airbags and rear side curtains, and front torso airbags. The new IS also debuted the last two-camera V-shaped front passenger airbag of its manufacturer. The IS 250 was originally equipped with a Vehicle Stability Control System (VSC), while the IS 350 used a more advanced VDIM system that responds more quickly with less intrusive work. The Pre-Collision (PCS) system is the first offered in the initial luxury sedan market segment. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test results in 2008 rated IS a maximum of five stars in the category of side driver and rollover, and four stars in the frontal driver, front passenger, and side rear passenger categories. Euro NCAP points were the maximum five stars in the Adult Occupant film, four stars in Child Occupant and two of the four stars in the Pedestrian test categories. The Insurance Institute for Road Safety gives the Lexus IS sedan a good overall score for both front and side impact tests, as well as is ranking IS Good in all other measured categories in front and side crash impact tests, but gives it a poor score for a small front overlap. Lexus IS 250 (GSE20R) F Sport (Australia) 2010-2011 Specifications for IS 250, IS 350 and IS F, engines equipped with direct injection system D-4S manufacturer; these models are certified by the California Air Resources Board of ULEV-II in the United States. The IS line is also equipped with an electricity control system (EPS), which replaces the previous hydraulic steering pump. The second-generation Lexus IS specifications also include windshield wipers for rain sensing, Intuitive Park Assist (IPA), bisenon headlights, adaptive front-facing lighting system (AFS) and dynamic cruise control radar. Lexus' SmartAccess without key recording with the touch of a start button is a standard feature along with a memory system that can remember the driver's seat, side mirror, and steering position. The Gen V high-resolution DVD sensory navigation system with voice recognition, Bluetooth, backup camera and Mark Levinson premium sound system is available as options. 2010-2011 Lexus 250 (GSE20R; Australia) Updates In response to criticism due to the lack of stability/traction control to disable the switch on the 2006 IS model, The Lexus added a VDIM/VSC switch for the 2007 model year. For the 2006 IS models, the stability/traction control system can be disabled by unconventional methods using code during the Engine. In 2007, in IS models, in addition to a switch for the traction control system, Lexus added a roof-mounted shark fin antenna in some markets. (Australian models supplied by IS did not receive a fin-style antenna until their first appearance on IS F's For the 2008 models, the steering system was configured to improve steering, and the rear seats were modified to improve the rear seat. The mid-cycle update of 2008 for the 2009 model year (designed by Takahiro Kanno in 2007) included a revised interior and exterior style, suspension and steering were reconfigured to improve stability and control, and the IS 250 also received A VDIM as standard for the 2009 model year. In 2009, Masanari Sakae developed changes to the IS line that were recorded in November 2009 in Japan and April 27, 2010 in Europe. In the second quarter of 2010 (2011 MY), these new changes were introduced, featuring an updated exterior with new wheels, LED daytime running lights, additional interior features, and dedicated IS F-Sport production models. Standard GSE20/GSE21 (2005) IS 250 (GSE20) models went on sale in 2005 in Japan and North America in the RWD (GSE20) and IS 250 AWD (GSE25) configuration, along with the more powerful rear-wheel drive IS 350 (GSE21) sedan. The IS 250 RWD comes in standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 6-speed automatic transmission is available as an option. All other IS petrol sedans are only available with a machine gun. 2010-2011 Lexus 350 (GSE21; Australia) IS 350 separates large brake discs and wicketkeepers borrowed from the GS 430; The big IS 350 wicketkeepers are four-piston, not two-piston front wicketkeepers IS 250. Citing independent testing conducted by research firm AMCI, Lexus highlighted the acceleration of the IS 350 as the fastest in its class at its launch (see also: Lexus IS performance specifications). Some reviewers noted that the second-generation models were The first Lexus foray into the sports compact market, which was quite well compared with German competitors. However, some of the criticisms were that its steering was not as communicative as that of some rivals, but the seat for the rear seats (while improved compared to the first generation) was still dense, and that the six-speed manual transmission was only available on is IS 250. However, IS performance has also been highly appreciated, for example, in February 2007 Road and Track Japanese luxury sports sedan comparison, in which the IS 350 took first place. ALE20 / GSE22 (2006) Lexus IS 220d (ALE20; Europe) Introduced for sale in European markets in 2006, the IS 220d (ALE20) was the first diesel Lexus ever produced. The IS 220d featured a 2.2-liter 2AD-FHV Inline-4 diesel engine and rear-wheel drive. The IS 220d was only offered with a manual transmission. Presented in the Chinese and Middle East markets in 2006 The IS 300 (GSE22) has been adapted to the fuel requirements of these regions, with a 3.0 L 3GR-FE V6 engine (without direct injection), 228 hp (170 kW) and rear-wheel drive. The IS 300 was also represented in brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines. 2010 IS IS C (GSE20; USA) GSE20 /GSE21 (2008) 2010 IS 250 C Interior (GSE20; USA.) After three years with only one body style, IS is back with a second body style, this time in coupe convertible form, debuting as IS 250 C on October 2, 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. Also available is the more powerful IS 350 C with engine specifications similar to those on sedan models. The IS convertible has a three-piece aluminum hardtop that can be retracted in 21 seconds, the roof brake mechanism slows down the panels as they close and near the windshield. The IS 250 C and IS 350 C are available with a six-speed automatic, while the IS 250 C has been offered a manual transmission and all-wheel-drive version. However, since 2015, the IS C is only available as a rear-wheel drive. The IS convertible has a Cd-0.29 resistance ratio. As of 2015, these models are the only F-Sport Lexus to be offered with a wide range of performance options such as F-Sport Air Intake and F-Sport Sway Bars, but just like other -Sport models are offered with a wide range of wheel options. The Lexus 250 C (GSE20R; Australia) IS 250 C went on sale in Europe in 2009, with IS convertible sales for North America aiming for May 2009 as the 2010 model. For some regions also produced IS 300 C. ALE20 (2010) In 2010, having coincided with the second update of the IS line, the IS 220d was replaced by a more efficient IS 200d, whose improved consumption rates were driven by engine reconfiguration. All-wheel drive options have also been expanded beyond the IS 250 AWD with the addition of the IS 350 AWD model in key markets. In 2005 and 2006, several automotive publications reported rumors of a higher version is, tested at various stages of development. Spy photos of such a car, being tested in Germany and California, have been published in several magazines and websites. Among these spy messages were shown several photos of a heavily modified and camouflaged IS sedan on the Nurburgring test track in Germany, along with other camouflaged Lexus test vehicles. The prototype of the previous generation is 430 could be mentioned in the future capabilities of the IS series, including the possibility that the high performance of the second-generation IS model could be equipped with a V8 engine. It was rumored that there would be a coupe and convertible version for the 2009 model, as well as a convertible version of the V8 powered by IS. In early 2004, just after the final XE20 design was frozen for production, Lexus engineer Yuhiko Yaguchi assembled a small team and, on a limited budget, began work on higher IS performance. To 2005 XE20 XE20 prototype 1UR-FE V8 was spotted testing at the Nurburgring. These prototypes were nicknamed IS 460 in the media. At the end of 2005, test mules were also seen at the Nurburgring using body panels from Toyota Crown Royals, which were reduced by cutting out sections of the roof and rear doors. The winning exterior design proposal by Hiroshi Omamato (led by IS chief designer Kengo Matsumoto) was completed in 2005. On December 6, 2006, Lexus officially confirmed the existence of the car they called IS F in a press release. At the North American International Auto Show on January 8, 2007, the new IS F sedan was debuted for the public along with the LF-A concept. The images were leaked a couple of hours before the official announcement. On its press debut, Lexus revealed that a separate team of skunk works developed the IS F in this way, as opposed to the typical engineering efforts of Lexus. Is F's chief engineer, , previously worked for Toyota Supra. Most of the TUNING of the IS F suspension took place at Fuji Speedway in Japan. 2009 Lexus IS F (USE20; Canada) Vehicle body IS F was reduced by 1 cm (0.5 inches) compared to the standard IS. The hood has a convex appearance, with a clearer curve than the standard IS, due to the extra space needed to deter the 5.0 L V8 engine. The resistance factor is 0.30 cd. The exterior also has a wire grille, altered side wings and skirts, as well as side vents. One notable element of the IS F design was its artificial quad-core exhaust pipes, consisting of two vertically folded exhaust tips on each side that did not directly connect to the actual exhaust pipes (the tips were part of the bumper, not the exhaust). The interior is equipped with four cabin passengers with wicker aluminum panels, steering wheel paddle switches, and F-brand emblems. IS F also has different seats, with bucket seats front and rear. The Lexus IS F engine and the Lexus IS F transmission are equipped with 4969 cm (5.0 hp; 303.2 hp) direct injection 2UR-GSE V8 produced sae 310 kW (416 hp; 421 hp) at 6600 rpm, While the peak torque is 371 lb⋅fts (503 N⋅m) at 5200 rpm. The engine is red at 6800 rpm, and also has a two-tube intake system, motor oil and automatic transmission fluid coolers and an oil pump designed for high-speed turns. Along with the port and direct injection, the engine has a VVT-iE camshaft time, and has a compression ratio of 11.8:1. 2UR-GSE comes from the Lexus UR-series V8 engines, which debuted as the 1UR-FSE on the 2007 Lexus LS 460. Of the UR-series V8s, 2UR-GSE is most closely related to the 2UR-FSE used in 2008 LS 600h. the same size of well and running (3.70 in x 3.52). However, extensive modifications made by IS F F The team, combined with Yamaha's Formula One (F1) engine program, has resulted in a variety of cast aluminum, new cylinder heads and titanium valves. In addition, the engine is equipped with a wrought-iron shaft connecting rods and fist lobes. At a maximum acceleration above 3400 rpm, secondary consumption is opened. Compared to the LS 600h's 2UR-FSE (measured only without its hybrid-electric engines), the IS F 2UR-GSE has more horsepower and torque at higher rpm, and 17 pound-feet less than peak torque (see also Lexus IS F performance performance). Lexus IS F 2UR-GSE V8 Lexus IS F Dynamometer test problems playing this file? See the media report. The Lexus IS F is equipped with an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic transmission with a sequential change that can lock the torque converter from 2nd to 8th gears (see also: Lexus IS transmission specifications). The SPDS comes from a device introduced in the 2007 Lexus LS, which was the first car to carry an 8-speed transmission. THE SPDS allows for shifts of 0.1 s (100 ms), compared to 0.05 s (50 ms) of Formula One racing cars. The wheeled paddle-switches allow gears to be switched during steering, and manual mode can be selected for additional control. The 8-speed gearbox also improves fuel economy, with lower overall consumption than rivals BMW, Mercedes and Audi, and avoiding the U.S. gas tax. The rear quarter view of the Lexus IS F uses an all-electric rack and pinion steering system with a 13.6:1 gear ratio. The transmission is linked to a new sports version of the Lexus (Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, or VDIM) electronic stability control system, with three different modes turned off). The Lexus IS F features Brembo cross-drilled brake rotors (14.2 front, 13.6 rear) and 6- piston front and 2-piston rear aluminum calipers with the Lexus logo, as well as 19-inch wrought-iron BBS aluminum alloy wheels. 2008 Lexus IS F Interior (USE20; Japan) In October 2007, Japan hosted the premiere of IS F, which aims to be 500 units per year for this country, as well as 5,000-6000 units per year for the American market. The top speed was 168 mph (270 km/h). IS F went on sale in the United States in early 2008, and the first 50 IS F units were sold in a limited edition neiman Marcus. In 2007, the head of Lexus GB said in an interview that 150 IS Fs would be allocated to the UK market. In 2008, the base price of IS F was $56,000. In 2010, IS F added a Torsen limited-slip differential, a standard iPod/USB connection, the ability to stream Bluetooth audio, voice commands in random languages and XM satellite radio. For the 2011 model year, the steering system and electric power suspension were revised, with front and rear spring fares, shock absorber, rear bushers and rear rear Angle. The internal update included the addition of a Sport button to the steering wheel and the redesign of calibration clusters with a large central tachometer similar to the Lexus LFA. The exterior adds LED daytime running lights and according to the Lexus 2011 IS F can lap Fuji Speedway in 2 minutes, 3.4 seconds or almost 2 seconds faster than before. Aftermarket tuners such as Wald International and FiveAxis have released special IS F models that were part of the manufacturer's car show. IS F Racing Concept (2008) At the 2008 , the concept of IS F Racing was shown. Few details were released at the show, except that the concept was the work of Chief Engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi, who built the concept just for fun, to show the true pleasure of driving, and to show the potential racing car IS F Racing Concept had large wings, wheels and spoilers in the same way as DTM racing cars. Reports at the event indicate that the car was not scheduled for actual racing; instead, different IS F models were preparing for the race. Later, IS F made its debut in VLN (see Lexus IS (XE20) in motorsport). The police car IS F (2009-) Humberside Police Lexus IS-Force police cruiser Humberside Police in the United Kingdom modified IS F to use as a deterrent to high speed chases. Changes include a computer platform to access all police records, 4 video cameras recording the road in all directions, 2 high-tech radio systems. The program was created in partnership with Lexus and is based on the specifications of the IS F model. Developed by Image Incorporated (ISI) using its rFactor software for computer racing, the program allows users to customize and race on IS F. Three race tracks are offered, namely Lake Orchard (oval and road course), Toban Racecourse (road course) and Essington Park, Leinz (mountain road) The software involves modeling the artificial intelligence of competing vehicles, and its engine physics simulates actual driving conditions. The device allows GPS to record the actual track drive, which is then stored on the memory card. The recording can be connected to The PlayStation 3, where you can view a virtual recreation of the race, or compete with your own race record. The second-generation Lexus IS is manufactured in Takhara, Aichi and Miakawa, Fukuoka, Japan.
