By Scott Prater Schriever Sentinel Mark Bieda was looking for redemption when he stepped into the batter’s box here August 5. With his 4th SOPS team tied with 50th SCS in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bieda couldn’t help but think about how his early defensive struggles had cost his team. Th en he calmly drove a perfect pitch into shallow left fi eld, giving 4th SOPS a 16-15, come-from-behind victory. “I had a rough game at second (base) with all of the hops at my chest, but I just had to let that go,” Bieda said. “I told myself not to swing too hard, place it well and get the run home.” It was a thrilling win for a team that had dropped two straight coming in and provided a much-needed spark at just the right time. Th e competitive intramural soft ball league begins its post-season championship tournament August 11. “We needed this win,” said 4th SOPS coach Myron Bryant. “We’ve got one more (regular-season) game left . I was hoping this win would help us win that one and take us into the post season on a high note.” 4th SOPS led 2-1 aft er two innings, when its defense unrav- eled. Th ree errors, two by Bieda, loaded the bases for 50th SCS’s Jimmy Rogers, who emptied them with a blast over the right-center fi eld fence.

Owen kept 4th SOPS in the game with his glove at third base, snagging several would-be base hits from hopeful 50th SCS batters.
