St. Bede's Catholic College Specialist Science and Sports College Issue 252 2nd March 2018 T: 0117 377 2200 E: [email protected] W: www.stbedescc.org Tw: @STB_Bristol REFLECTION —1st March Feast of St David, Patron Saint of Wales St David was a Welsh bishop during the 6th Century and is the only Welsh saint to be canonised in the Western Church. He founded around 10 monasteries and was known for his simple way of life and asceticism; he taught his followers to refrain from eating meat and drinking anything but water. The miracle most commonly associated with St David is said to have taken place whilst he was preaching to a large crowd at the Synod of Brefi. It is said that the ground on which he was stood rose up to form a small hill, in order for everyone to see him. Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! Prayer: God, on this day, we remember Saint David, your servant. Grant that we may learn from him and respond to the words that are thought to be his last: ‘Be steadfast, and do the little things’. Amen. Reflection: "Brothers and sisters, be joyful, and keep your faith and your creed, and do the little things that you have seen me do and heard about." Archdeacon Thomas, M.A., F.S.A., on " The Diocese of St. Asaph." " Storer's Cathedrals," pub- lished in i8ig, together with similar works, have also been consulted. -

The hint was obvious, but as no name or address accompanied it, the gift had to be recorded as anonymous. From time to time gifts are sent to the Library by persons who either desire to remain anonymous, or who have omitted to include their names and addresses. The only method of acknowledging such gifts is through the press, and by drawing attention to them in the Annual Report. -
