Each customer is given a customer number when their catalogue is despatched and from this our staff can quickly verify your name and address. Account customers who have paid to terms need only quote the part numbers and respective quantities of the items they require. Credit & debit card holders will be asked each time for the number and expiry date. We also need to know if the name and address stored in our system is that of the card holder. We do not store your card details for subsequent orders, so please have your card details ready. To place a credit card order all you need to do is: 1. Call 020 8843 0303 and ask to place a credit card order Then give us: 2. Your customer number (from your address label) 3. Your card number and expiry date and issue number if shown. 4. The cardholders name & address 5. The AVC number (last 3 digits on the signature strip) 6. The part numbers followed by the quantities Ordering hazardous items: Royal Mail’s rules on posting hazardous goods have changed and due to these restrictions, we are no longer permitted to send certain goods classed as hazardous via standard post. This means that certain items, featuring warnings such as those below must now be sent via carrier. These changes will be reflected in postage charges and automatically calculated at the checkout. THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM - HOW DO I USE IT? Using your telephone keypad, simply dial 020 8842 3042 and select from the menu of options you will hear. You will need to identify yourself by keying in your customer number and your secret pin. If you don’t know these, please call our sales office during working hours and an operator will help you. Using your phone keypad, simply key in the part numbers or answers to the prompts. You’ll find the system easy to use, and extremely friendly. If you have any problems, our trained staff are on hand to help you during the working day. Tips: Hash is the ‘#’ key under the 9. Be prepared. Write down all the information you will need before you call. Use a tone telephone. If you hear tones when you dial (not clicks) then you have a tone phone. Many telephones have a switch to select DTMF tone dialling. A pulse telephone will not operate the system. Write down the confirmation number. You will hear this when the order has been accepted. Southall, Middlesex UB2 5DD www.m-p.co.uk Introduction Inside this catalogue you will find a massive range of tools and materials for the clock and barometer repairer, and at the back you will find an appendix giving advice, hints and help on selecting products. Many more items are now available in "Trade Packs" of very popular items, designed to give busy repair shops an even greater price advantage. To be sure to get the pack price, you should order in multiples of packs - if we split a pack you will be charged at the regular price for any part of a pack, less any normal discount. Remember there are many ways to shop at M&P Telephone: 020 8843 0303 Help: www.m-p.co.uk/help Our Automated service: 020 8842 3042 Email: [email protected] Online store: www.m-p.co.uk Please bear in mind that the range of products and services we offer constantly changes. Many items, prices and specifications will have changed since this catalogue was prepared, and more and more customers are making use of our online store. This is updated daily to reflect the current price and availability of products, and allows us to make changes to product descriptions as they occur. Paper catalogues are becoming more and more expensive to print and post, and we anticipate that our web site will soon become the most informative and accurate source of information on our products. If you have access to the internet, please take a moment to visit www.m-p.co.uk. Regular customers may have noticed that we are making huge efforts to use recycled packing wherever possible. We have installed recycling bins throughout our building, and we all make an effort to put anything that can be re-used as packaging into specially marked containers. We understand that receiving orders filled with re-used packing may not look as attractive as with new material, but we hope that our efforts to reduce waste are appreciated. We are currently able to recycle several thousand litres of plastic filling each week, simply by segregating and reusing incoming packaging. Finally, thank you for your continued support. We hope you will continue to use us for all of your horological needs. Meadows & Passmore Ltd., London Contents Contents This index details the catalogue contents by section title. 1 L’EPEE 1839 – the premier clock manufacture in Switzerland For over 175 years, L'Epée has been at the forefront of watch and clock making. Today, it is the only specialised manufacture in Switzerland dedicated to making high-end clocks. L'Epée was founded in 1839, initially to make music box and watch components, by Auguste L’Epée who set up the business near Besançon, France. The L’Epée hallmark was that all parts were made entirely by hand. From 1850 onwards, the manufacture became a leading light in the production of ‘platform’ escapements, creating regulators especially for alarm clocks, table clocks and musical watches. By 1877, it was making 24,000 platform escapements annually. The manufacture became a well-known specialist owning a large number of patents on special escapements such as anti-knocking, auto-starting and constant-force escapements and the chief supplier of escapements to several celebrated watchmakers of the day. L'Epée has won a number of gold awards at International Exhibitions. During the 20th century, L'Epée owed much of its reputation to its superlative carriage clocks and, for many, L'Epée was the clock of the influential and powerful; it was also the gift of choice by French government officials to elite guests. In 1976 when the Concorde supersonic aircraft entered commercial service, L'Epée wall clocks were chosen to furnish the cabins, providing passengers with visual feedback of the time. In 1994, L'Epée showed its thirst for a challenge when it built the world's biggest clock with compensated pendulum, the Giant Regulator.

  • A Note from the Editors…. Apologies for the Lateness of This Newsletter, but As Quite a Lot of You Know I (Fergus) Have Been Recovering from a Fractured Back
Presidents Report Hi all, Well it’s a little over 3 months since my last communication and I am happy to report the club is running smoothly and tracking well. The Christmas meeting was a great night and I would like to make a special thank you to Jim & Lydia Reaper for their kind donation of 5 great door prizes, (a selection of hampers and wine!) All attendees received a raffle ticket and then we had the much anticipated draw , this really added a great festive feel to the night and kick started the celebrations. The Christmas mart was open to the public for the first time this year and I must say it was a great success. (Our primary goals and objectives = increase awareness of society, increase membership, increase revenue) High level summary: 155 general public paying customers attended @$5 each = $775 All 28 tables sold out @ $40 each = $1120 Raffle ticket sales income = approx. $350 4 x New Members joined the society (approx. a 6% increase in membership) 4 Members renewed their membership on the day = $320 After expenses (hall hire, advertising, printing, insurance, sundries, etc) we are still in front and made a profit but more importantly we increased awareness of our society and increased our membership numbers! I would like to say “thank you “to all the volunteers who helped out on the day and to the “Mart committee” who worked for almost a year planning and preparing for this event and ensuring its success! (Chris Cosopodiotis, Bill DeKaste, Phil Gore, Mick Connolly) On the theme of club promotion, we have been invited back for the fourth time, to showcase Horology at the “lost trades fair” in Kyneton on the Labour Day long weekend (9th -10th March 2019) After much interest in our display last year we have been invited back to the Model Engineer Expo again this year.
