Juve have not lost in the last 16 since 2015/16, their only reverse in their last six appearances at this juncture. • Juve comfortably reached this season's round of 16 having progressed unbeaten from their section, while Lyon had to come from two goals down against Leipzig on Matchday 6 to snatch a qualification-clinching point thanks to a late Memphis Depay goal. Previous meetings • This is the sides' fifth match, all in the last six years. Juve won three of the first four fixtures, including a pair of 1-0 victories in France. • The teams first met in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, Leonardo Bonucci scoring the only goal of the first leg at Lyon's former home, the Stade de Gerland, five minutes from time. Andrea Pirlo increased Juve's aggregate advantage four minutes into the Turin return and, although Jimmy Briand's 18th-minute strike gave OL hope, a Samuel Umtiti own goal midway through the second half sealed Juventus's place in the semi-finals.

  • Ligue 1 Guide 2021/22
2021/2022 Ligue 1 Preview Guide INTRODUCTION After a historically close title race that saw four teams in the running Ligue 1 is back with no small amount of fanfare following a busy summer. Of those four sides, while Lille and Lyon have been relatively quiet as they try to consolidate under new managers, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain have been eager participants in the mercato, buying well in a way that addresses the two sides’ needs. Nice and Rennes have also done some canny business in the offseason, to say nothing of Marseille’s flood of arrivals, but the discussions about pro- spective title favorites in France have to start and end with the capital side. Even as rumors swirl around the potential departure of Kylian Mbappé, it’s hard to argue that Paris Saint-Ger- main haven’t done their utmost to convince their young star to stay. At least, that is, if one judges by their transfer activity. The arrivals of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Achraf Hakimi have bolstered Mauricio Pochettino’s side in key areas whilst also adding another layer of dynamism. If he can keep his squad happy and balanced, this team looks as potent as any in Europe, Elsewhere, Monaco are probably best-equipped to challenge, even as they will have to contend with playing European football. The arrivals of Myron Boadu, Alexander Nübel and Ismail Jakobs look to be upgrades, and so long as Niko Kovac’s exciting, front-foot football remains in place and so do all of its key elements.

  • The Gffn 100 2018: Ten to Watch
GFFN 100 2018 THE GFFN 100: AN INTRODUCTION Welcome to another edition of the Get French Football News 100. Published at the end of ev- ery year by GFFN, the guide you are reading is as detailed and comprehensive a set of player profiles as one is likely to find, especially in English. Some of these players are well-known, even to the casual fan, and though they have been the subjects of countless profiles, we hope that you can gain a bit more depth in knowledge of their stories. This is especially true with the likes of Neymar and his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappé. In 2018, neither was ever far from the limelight in a year in which France won the World Cup, thanks in large part to the teen- age sensation. Neymar may have garnered the odd headline for less positive reasons, but both remain as compelling off the pitch as they do on it. It is thus no surprise to see Mbappé top the rankings again; it does not take much objectivity to realise his immense talent and potential, but the present document is much more than a narra- tive driven by celebrity. We have watched the matches that do not generate headlines, seen the teams that are rarely on television, especially internationally, and artfully blended statistical anal- ysis with old-fashioned scouting to create what we feel is a definitive guide to the professionals currently plying their trade in France. If some rankings seem high, or low, read the profiles before making a snap decision as to our choices; this is a meritocracy.

  • Transfer Report 2020/21
TRANSFER REPORT 2020/21 How Covid changed the transfer market FOOTBALL POWERED BY DATA BIG DATA CONSULTING FOR FOOTBALL PROFESSIONALS Salvador Carmona CEO A : Paseo Imperial 6 - Madrid, Spain W : [email protected] P : www.driblab.com October 15th, 2020 Dear all, I wrote back in April on the Driblab website that we were not going through easy times and the sad reality is that this pandemic has affected many industries if not all of them. Football, and particularly professional football, is not and will not be inmune to it until a vaccine is discovered and distributed worldwide. The financial crisis across Europe has resulted in a steep drop in the value of footballers as clubs prepared to cut transfer spending this year. Clubs incomes were heavily affected and rolled over to the now 2020-21 season. The top 3 main revenue streams were TV broadcasting, Game tickets and commercial revenues (Sponsors, ads, merchandise etc) and they were all affected one way or another. Right now TV rights are basically the main source of income for the majority of clubs due to the pandemic de-facto killing in-game activation, museum and stadium tours, merchandising offline and many other sources of revenue. With a solid €5bn transfers value in 2019, according to TransferMarkt, the market was on an average increase trend of 10-15% annually between 2016 and 2019 in the top 5 European Leagues. This year, the market has faced a remarkable hit as the number of players signings in the summer market was decreased by -33% compared to the previous year.
