Daniel Atar, KKL-JNF World Chairman, August 2020 In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the danger of infection in enclosed spaces, KKL-JNF is planning to establish a network of specially designed, green outdoor shaded seating areas for between 25 to 30 hospitals that have coronavirus wards throughout Israel. The nationwide project will serve to strengthen and support the medical teams working around the clock and the COVID-19 patients, isolated from home and family, whose length of stay may be protracted. The project will be designed and used in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Health. The benefits of spending time in a green environment in the open air are well known, enhancing well-being, health and recuperation. The seating areas will provide respite for all who need them, not least medical staff under unusual pressure, and serve as pleasant "green lungs" for hospitals. The plan to create outdoor seating areas took shape at the request of Prof. Ronni Gamzu, director of the Ichilov Medical Center and the national coronavirus project manager, and that of the Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva. In response to the expressed need, the KKL-JNF Board of Directors are planning the project's implementation at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, the Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer in Ramat Gan, the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, the Padeh (Poriya) Medical Center near Tiberias, among others. Already, within the next year, the hospitals will have seating areas that include accessible KKL-JNF tables and benches spaced at a distance of at least two meters between them, newly planted shade trees and greenery, flower box planters, and shading elements (umbrellas). The designated areas will be KKL-JNF branded. Project cost: NIS 25,000 for each relaxation area Donors will receive appropriate recognition in the form of a plaque attached to a table or bench.
