We can even do classified Flooding Updates Page 15 advertisements. NACC Office Report The NACC office has been busy since the 44th AGM & Tradeshow. Thirty four resolutions were passed at the General Assembly during the AGM, and meetings with specific organizations and departments have began to address the concerns. Our 45th AGM and Tradeshow will be held once again at the Canad Inn Polo Park, August 18th—20th, 2015. We look forward to working on improving the AGM and Tradeshow in 2015, and we thank everyone for their evaluations and suggestions for the 45th. We would like to welcome Tymara-Lee Mikolajek to the NACC staff—she started in November as the NACC Administrative Assistant and we look forward to having her. On behalf of all the Board of Directors and staff at the NACC, we wish you a happy holiday season and a bright new year. 2 Executive Board Reports Hello Whispering Pines readers, I would like to welcome everyone to the Winter edition of the Whispering Pines. Thank you for taking the time to read what is happening in our organization, and the NACC communities. I have been keeping busy with meetings regarding resolutions since the 44th AGM and Tradeshow, thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the conference. We had many valuable speakers and presenters attend, and we look forward to another packed agenda for the 45th conference. I encourage communities who have concerns, to reach the NACC office via email , mail, or fax. If you have any questions, please call the NACC office. I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Regionals and the Lake Winnipeg Regulation hearings REG MEADE that are taking place in January and February. PRESIDENT On behalf of NACC, we wish you and your family a safe Holiday Season, and a Happy New Year. HELGI EINARSSON Hello from the Eastern Region! EASTERN CHAIR November is here and so is the snow and freeze up. Our concentration is on the frazil ice building up in Dauphin River and the Waterhen River. These communities are dealing with some serious issues in regards to ice and flooding, and some folks have been evacuated from their homes. For those who winter fish, stay safe and have a productive season. I would like to congratulate all the newly elected Mayors and Councillors who were elected or re-elected to their positons in October. A large welcome to our new Western Chair, Ken Spence, and thank you to everyone who attended and helped at our AGM in August. From my family to yours, I wish a Merry Christmas, Season Greetings and a Happy and prosperous New Year. GLEN FLETT Hello Whispering Pines readers, NORTHERN CHAIR Our organizations President has been busy working with government officials and organizations on issues such as health and education for the improvement of our communities. We will continue to meet with officials regarding the resolutions that were passed at our 44th AGM and Tradeshow. It was very nice to see all the council members at our 44th AGM in August, we welcome all the newly elected officials and all that were re-elected. Hopefully you learned a lot of valuable information you can take back to your communities. We are looking forward to attending the upcoming Regionals hosted by ANA—the Northern regionals will be held February 10-12, 2015, and I hope to see a lot of community officials there. The NACC Board of Directors encourages community councils to write to the NACC office regarding your concerns and issues. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our NACC Staff for all their hard work in preparing for the AGM and Tradeshow, it was a huge success. I wish everyone a safe holiday season and prosperous New Year. Hello! KEN SPENCE At the NACC AGM in August, I was newly elected as the Chairperson for the Western Region. I would like to express WESTERN CHAIR my appreciation to everyone who supported me at the election. Also, I would like to thank Anne Lacquette for her many years of service to the communities while she was the Western Chair. I recently attended a meeting with NACC, Minister Ashton and Minister Robinson regarding the condition of Highway #276 that runs through Meadow Portage to Waterhen. MIT assured NACC that Highway #276 would be repaired this winter and will be paved by 2016. I have also attended 3 Executive Board meetings so far, and I’m learning about the structure of NACC and how we manage the various programs we provide to the communities. I am also learning how we, at NACC work with various community issues that are brought to our attention. The communities were well represented by their council at our AGM.T here was a huge attendance and many new faces. I look forward to seeing everyone again next year. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 3 COMMUNITY EVENTS NEAR YOU ANA Regional Meetings—Hosted by Aboriginal and Northern Affairs North Central Region—February 3rd to 5th, 2014 (Holiday Inn Airport West, 2025 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB) Northern Region—February 10th to 12th, 2014 (Thompson, MB) Hudson Bay Quest: Dog Sled Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival The Pas, Manitoba Race Various Venues February 18, 2015—February 22, 2015 Churchill, Manitoba The intent of the Festival is to celebrate heritage and Race will be held on MARCH 13th , 2015 culture of the northern pioneers. Registration begins on November 1st , 2014 Race begins in Gilliam and ends in Churchill The competition is between the Musher, Dog Winter Adventure Weekend Riding Mountain National Park February 13, 2015 - February 15, 2015 Riding Mountain National Park in winter is Manitoba's best kept secret. Come snowshoe, ski, skate, eat, explore, learn, play… There is something for everyone here ! Lake Winnipeg Regulation Hearings The Manitoba Clean Environment Commission will be hosting public consultations in communities affected NORTHERN NEIGHBOURS JAMBOREE by the Lake Winnipeg Regulation to hear the experience of residents and resource users. NACC will be assisting with the consultations in the Birch River, Manitoba NACC communities. Please check with your Community Hall community council to see if a consultation will be April 25, 2015 taking place in your community. 4 COMMUNITY EVENTS NEAR YOU Bellsite Poker Derby Bellsite, Manitoba Thompson, Manitoba February 22, 2015 February 24th—26th, 2015 This event is to raise money for the community and North Expo North will feature 38 hands-on workshops, Mountain Riders, it is a snowmobile poker derby and the that focus on heavy construction and its partnered rider covers about 80 miles of groomed trails. There will be a industries throughout Northern Manitoba. full course of home cooked supper and door prizes. This is a great way to enjoy the day, come and join us ! Barbara (Barb) Marcyniuk is a long time resident of the ANA community of Dallas/Red Rose and served as both a council member and mayor for the past 21 years.
