This is the first series of credit card series featuring the Olympic five-ring colors in the Hong Kong and Macau regions, and is designed specially for those sports enthusiasts and Beijing Olympic aficionados. BOCHK has also invited Zhang Jun and Gao Ling, the champions in Badminton Mixed Doubles at two Olympic Games, to act as its official ambassadors of the VISA BOC Olympic Games Card. The launch ceremony of VISA BOC Olympic Games Card five-ring-five-color series was held today at the Lobby of Bank of China Tower. Officiating guests include Mr He Guangbei, Vice Chairman & Chief Executive, Bank of China (Hong Kong); Ms Prudence Chan, Country Manager, Hong Kong and Macau, Visa International; The Hon Timothy Fok, GBS, JP Chairman of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and Vice President of the Equestrian Committee (Hong Kong) of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad; Mr Ye Yi Xin, General Manager, Bank of China Macau Branch; Mr Zhu Jun, Deputy Head of Olympic Office, Bank of China; Ms Wendy Mui, Deputy General Manager, BOC Credit Card (International) Limited as well as Mr Zhang Jun and Ms Gao Ling, Olympic Ambassadors of Bank of China (Hong Kong). Ms Wang Chen, Mr Ng Wei, Ms Yip Pui Yin and Mr Chan Yan Kit of the Hong Kong Badminton Team have also attended the ceremony, and conducted a friendly skills exchange with Zhang Jun and Gao Ling.     Facts and Records History of Badminton In 1873, the Duke of Beaufort held a lawn party at his country house in the village of Badminton, Gloucestershire. A game of Poona was played on that day and became popular among British society’s elite. The new party sport became known as “the Badminton game”. In 1877, the Bath Badminton Club was formed and developed the first official set of rules. The Badminton Association was formed at a meeting in Southsea on 13th September 1893. It was the first National Association in the world and framed the rules for the Association and for the game. The popularity of the sport increased rapidly with 300 clubs being introduced by the 1920’s. Rising to 9,000 shortly after World War Π. The International Badminton Federation (IBF) was formed in 1934 with nine founding members: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Holland, Canada, New Zealand and France and as a consequence the Badminton Association became the Badminton Association of England. From nine founding members, the IBF, now called the Badminton World Federation (BWF), has over 160 member countries. The future of Badminton looks bright. Badminton was officially granted Olympic status in the 1992 Barcelona Games. Indonesia was the dominant force in that first Olympic tournament, winning two golds, a silver and a bronze; the country’s first Olympic medals in its history. More than 1.1 billion people watched the 1992 Olympic Badminton competition on television. Eight years later, and more than a century after introducing Badminton to the world, Britain claimed their first medal in the Olympics when Simon Archer and Jo Goode achieved Mixed Doubles Bronze in Sydney.
