King’s Chapel seeks a full-time Assistant Minister. The position is available March 1, 2017.

The Assistant Minister will report to the Senior Minister and assist her in a manner that reflects the Assistant Minster’s comparative skills and interests. We are looking for a person with particular experience and strength in Children and Family Ministry. An effective Assistant Minister also will have experience and interest in adult religious education, preaching, pastoral care of all ages, Christian leadership, social justice, and growth.

King’s Chapel is a Christian church affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. This position is open to liberal Christians ordained or eligible to be ordained in other traditions. The Assistant Minister will be asked to regularly lead the Christian sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism; will be asked by the minister to perform and funerals; will participate in our three weekly worship services; will preach once a month at the three services; and will provide leadership, with the Church School Director, in developing our church school. Additionally, the Assistant Minister will collaborate with the Senior Minister to offer adult religious education programming. The Assistant Minister will lead a monthly gathering of Theology on Tap.

King’s Chapel, located in the heart of Boston on the historic Freedom Trail, is a liberal Christian Church welcoming to all. It is congregational in governance, and its main 11 AM Sunday service follows an Anglican pattern of worship, using the King’s Chapel Book of Common Prayer, the Revised Common Lectionary, and service music led by our organist and professional . The Sunday 9 AM intergenerational service meets weekly in our smaller Chapel at the House, and includes regular participation by our children. Church School follows this service. The Wednesday evening service is a candle-lit service in our large Chapel, with organ and a professional cantor; communion is served in the chancel, with participants gathered around the communion table.

In addition to the ministers, paid staff includes a full-time Music Director and Organist; a Parish Administrator; and a Director for our Freedom Trail programs. In addition, we are assisted by part-time staff: a church school director, a 9 AM music director, a book keeper, an administrative assistant, and two building vergers. There is an active and talented elected lay leadership.

King’s Chapel is at an exciting time: In March 2013 we called a new senior minister, ordained by the United Church of Christ; in September 2014 a full-time Assistant Minister also joined us. Together, these clergy have worked closely with the congregation to bring in new members, support new lay leadership, and institute the two new worship services. With the decision by the Assistant Minister to

relocate to another city for a family move, the Senior Minister now seeks a ministerial colleague with whom she, other staff, and congregational leadership can continue to build a thriving church in the heart of our city.

Pursuant to the UUA tradition, the Assistant will be a contract employee, renewable annually. The expectation is that the Assistant is in a position to make a multi-year commitment.

Compensation will be dependent upon experience, and will include a cash salary; housing in the form of a newly renovated apartment located on the 5th floor of our historic Beacon Hill Parish House, accessible by elevator, overlooking the Boston Common; and benefits.

Interested persons are asked to submit electronically ONLY the following: 1) a letter of interest explaining the candidate’s fit with King Chapel’s unique ministry; 2) a resume; and 3) a sermon. If video or audio of the sermon is also available, please provide a CD or a link. Please submit these materials to [email protected]. Submissions will be reviewed as they are received.
