IE14.12 ~TORONTO REPORT FOR ACTION Updates on Improvements to the Bike Lanes on Dundas Street East Date: June 24, 2020 To: Infrastructure and Environment Committee From: General Manager, Transportation Services Wards: Wards 13 and 14 SUMMARY On May 28, 2020, City Council adopted CC21.20 Cycling Network Plan Installations: Bloor West Bikeway Extension & ActiveTO Projects and requested Transportation Services to report to the July 9, 2020 meeting of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee on the status of previous requests to improve the bike lanes on Dundas Street East. The purpose of this report is to provide an update on these requests. Bicycle lanes on Dundas Street East have long provided a vital east/west cycling connection. In the 2001 Toronto Bike Plan, Dundas Street East was identified as a candidate for bicycle lanes from River Street to Kingston Road and in 2003, bicycle lanes were installed on the section of Dundas Street East from Broadview Avenue to Kingston Road. The Dundas Street East bicycle lanes are connected to the protected bicycle lanes on Woodbine Avenue via contra-flow bicycle lanes on Dixon Avenue. Transportation Services has installed a number of safety improvements along Dundas Street East including pavement marking enhancements along the corridor and intersection improvements at Dundas Street East and Jones Avenue. In June 2020, as part of the ActiveTO program, temporary protected bicycle lanes (cycle tracks) were installed to extend the Dundas Street East bicycle lanes by 1 kilometre (km) from their end point just east of Broadview, west to Sackville Street to provide a safe connection through the Broadview intersection and over the Don Valley Parkway bridge. -

Wychwood Park Wychwood Park sits on a height of land that was once the Lake Iroquois shore. The source for Taddle Creek lies to the north and provides the water for the pond found in the centre of the Park. Today, Taddle Creek continues under Davenport Road at the base of the escarpment and flows like an underground snake towards the Gooderham and Worts site and into Lake Ontario. Access to this little known natural area of Toronto is by two entrances one at the south, where a gate prevents though traffic, and the other entrance at the north end, off Tyrell Avenue, which provides the regular vehicular entrance and exit. A pedestrian entrance is found between 77 and 81 Alcina Avenue. Wychwood Park was founded by Marmaduke Matthews and Alexander Jardine in the third quarter of the 19th century. In 1874, Matthews, a land- scape painter, built the first house in the Park (6 Wychwood Park) which he named “Wychwood,” after Wychwood Forest near his home in England. The second home in Wychwood Park, “Braemore,” was built by Jardine a few years later (No. 22). When the Park was formally established in 1891, the deed provided building standards and restrictions on use. For instance, no commercial activities were permitted, there were to be no row houses, and houses must cost not less than $3,000. By 1905, other artists were moving to the Park. Among the early occupants were the artist George A. Reid (Uplands Cottage at No. 81) and the architect Eden Smith (No. 5). Smith designed both 5 and 81, as well as a number of others, all in variations of the Arts and Crafts style promoted by C.F.A. -

REPORT FOR ACTION Parking Amendments - Bay Street, between Harbour Street and Queens Quay West (York Street, Bay Street, and Yonge Street Ramp Removal) Date: October 26, 2017 To: Toronto and East York Community Council From: Acting Director, Transportation Services, Toronto and East York District Wards: Ward 28, Toronto Centre-Rosedale SUMMARY As the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) operates a transit service on Bay Street, City Council approval of this report is required. Transportation Services is requesting approval to amend the existing parking regulations on the east side of Bay Street, between Harbour Street and Queens Quay West. The proposed changes will allow for safe and efficient northbound right-turns from Bay Street to Harbour Street, and also improve sight lines at this intersection. RECOMMENDATIONS The Acting Director, Transportation Services, Toronto and East York District, recommends that: 1. City Council rescind the existing designated commercial loading zone in effect from 4:30 p.m. of one day to 8:00 a.m. of the next following day Monday to Friday and anytime Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays from July 1 to August 31, inclusive; Anytime from September 1 of one year to June 30 of the next following year, inclusive on the east side of Bay Street, between a point 53.6 metres north of Queens Quay West and a point 28 metres further north. 2. City Council rescind the existing designated bus parking zone in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday from July 1 to August 31, inclusive, for a maximum period of 1 hour on the east side of Bay Street, between a point 53.6 metres north of Queens Quay West and a point 28 metres further north. -

Gardiner Expressway and Northbound Don Valley Parkway Closures – 2019, 2020 and 2021 Toronto Triathlon Festival Date: March 4, 2019 To: Infrastructure and Environment Committee From: General Manager, Transportation Services Wards:Wards 4, 10, 13, 14, 16, 19 SUMMARY The purpose of this report is to seek City Council's authority to close portions of the eastbound lanes on the F.G. Gardiner Expressway and northbound lanes on the Don Valley Parkway for the Toronto Triathlon Festival event for 2019, 2020 and 2021. The proposed route and time of year of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Toronto Triathlon Festival event will remain the same as 2018. RECOMMENDATIONS The General Manager, Transportation Services recommends that: 1. City Council authorize the closure of the F.G. Gardiner Expressway, eastbound lanes only, from the Humber River to the Don Valley Parkway, including all ramps, and the Don Valley Parkway, northbound lanes only, from the F.G. Gardiner Expressway to Eglinton Avenue East, including all ramps, on the Sundays of, July 21, 2019, July 19, 2020 and July 18, 2021 from 2:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Toronto Triathlon Festival event; 2. City Council prohibit other road closures due to events or film permits on arterial roads bounded by Highway 401, Warden Avenue, Lake Ontario, Humber River, Queen Street/The Queensway, and Yonge Street, as they will be required to accommodate overflow traffic from the expressway closures resulting from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Toronto Triathlon Festival event; and 3. -
