The Denver Health Foundation has been the fundraising arm for Denver Health and Hospital Authority since 1998. An independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Denver Health Foundation raises funds to support a variety of diverse programs at Denver Health. We maintain active partnerships with individual philanthropists, local and national foundations, corporations, and produce multiple, high-profile events throughout the year. In 2017, with generous contributions from our donors, we provided more than $8.1 million to assist Denver Health in the delivery of high-quality care and vital resources to Denver’s citizens. Because of donors like you, Dr. Kim will continue his award-winning research to advance diagnosis and targeted therapy for these diseases. SABIN SCHOLARSHIPS IN NURSING EDUCATION In November 2017, the Denver Health Foundation awarded the first Sabin Scholarships in Nursing Education to four amazing Denver Health Employees pursuing their BSN’s. WHERE MEDICAL GREATNESS + HUMAN GOODNESS CONNECT DENVER HEALTH FOUNDATION | 2017 ANNUAL REPORT 5 COMPLETION OF THE CHILD & ADOLESCENT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH RESEARCH ENDOWMENT In January 2017 many generous donors gathered at the Clyfford Still Museum to celebrate surpassing the $1.5 Million goal to complete the Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health Endowment. Donors mingled with grateful Foundation board members, staffers and Denver Health’s team of medical professionals who will oversee the new endowment. The completed endowment will fill a crucial gap in research on how to adequately treat mental health concerns in children, and since most behavioral health issues begin during childhood and adolescence, researching appropriate methods of treatment will make a world of difference in helping these children achieve stable and healthy lives before it’s too late. We thank all of the donors who have made this possible, including those who donated not only money, but countless hours and endless energy to ensure its completion, including Evi Makovsky, Bill Saslow and Kathy Klugman (left). That’s why the Foundation’s NEWBORNS IN NEED PROGRAM is so grateful for thousands of new items donated by generous community members. School groups and churches held donation drives in 2017 along with businesses and civic organizations. They collected baby shampoo, wipes, pajamas and sleep sacks, too. Individual knitters, quilters and seamstresses made heirloom- quality blankets by the hundreds. With their help, along with significant cash contributions, we were able to provide a starter layette to every single baby born at our hospital— more than 3,400! Other in-kind gifts also supported a wide range of programs throughout the organization. For example, coats, clothing and blankets were donated to newly arrived refugee patients at the Lowry Clinic. Books were collected for REACH OUT AND READ. Wigs arrived for women at the Cancer Resource Center. Fifteen of Denver’s top restaurants provided the delicious sliders and sides for the Hot Rocks Griller Challenge. Child Life received stuffed animals for hospitalized children.
