Andy & Rachel Korkos Mr. & Mrs. John Xanthos Bob Cole Conservatory Donors 2015 The Bob Cole ELCOME W to our final campus concert of the season featuring two award- Conservatory of Music at CSULB thanks the following donors for their generosity winning jazz ensembles, the Concert Jazz Orchestra and the Studio to our students and programs. Private donations support scholarships, production, tours, and concerts. Jazz Band. It was a busy year for “Jazz At The Beach”. Our jazz majors and participants have been busy with Jazz Forum events in the BCCM Outdoor $250,000 & above Amphitheater, our “Jazz at the Nugget” concert series, and two combo nights, Anonymous also held at the Nugget - our campus grill and gathering place. CJO started Bob & Regena Cole L. Patrick Pritchard a recording project this past November that will be completed May 9 &10. This ensemble also traveled to San Diego in January to perform at the Jazz $50,000-$249,999 Education Network Conference with guest soloists Wayne Bergeron and Bob Hon. Jacob Adajian Beverly August † (In memory of George August) McChesney. On February 13th CJO performed at the Newport Beach Jazz Party Dramatic Allied Arts Guild with guest soloist James Morrison from Australia. Just a few days ago the CJO Fine Arts Affiliates Joanne France traveled to Colorado to perform at the University of Northern Colorado Jazz The Ann & Gordon Getty Foundation Festival. Once again, the Bob Cole Conservatory was well represented at the Dr. Matthew & Mrs. Roberta Jenkins Family Foundation Downbeat Student Music Awards. We won three Outstanding Performances; Kip Polakoff † (In memory of Carol Polakoff) The Estate of Virginia Skinner Pacific Standard Time for large vocal jazz ensemble graduate college division, Centennial Properties Anibal Seminario for Jazz Soloist in the graduate college division, and Glynis Davies in the Latin group category. Christine Guter directed the Iowa All- $10,000-$49,999 Hon. Burton Barnett* State Jazz Choir that won in the honors high school vocal jazz category. The California Community Foundation CJO was named winner in the graduate college large jazz ensemble category Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation William Gillespie Foundation of the Downbeat Student Music Awards for the second consecutive year! As Frieda Caplan always at our final concert of the year, we will award the K-Jazz Educator of Irene S. Meyer the Year and the John Prince Memorial Scholarship Award. And to conclude Presser Foundation Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity our concert season, Beau and Jo France Graduate Jazz Studies Scholarship Hon. Samuel W. Warner † recipient Kim Davis will conduct the Jazz Lab Band in concert on Sunday, May 3rd. $5,000-$9,999 Sally & Larry Curry Lee DeBord Over the years, our jazz ensembles have achieved local, national, and Kari & Arlena Kauppi † Long Beach Community Concert Association international recognition through appearances at jazz festivals, music Dr. Charmaine Meyer † education conventions, and command performances. The CJO won 1st place Shigemi Matsumoto & Marty Stark (In Memory of Moriichi & Suki Matsumoto) in the college division of the 2007 and the 2009 Next Generation Jazz Festivals, Erin & MIke Mugnai* John & Alaine Weiss (In Memory of Bernice M. Weiss) which resulted in invitations to perform at the 50th and 52nd Annual Monterey Jazz Festivals. Both the CJO and SJB have won 1st place awards at the Western $1,000-$4,999 States Jazz Festival. Other notable invitations include performances for Jazz At Lillian V. Bishop Mr. & Mrs. Richard B. Blum Lincoln Center, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Dr. Ella M. Burnett (In memory of Minnie Glenn) Festival, Hollywood Bowl, Jazz Education Network, International Association Randolph Currin, Jr. Mr. Mike Goldberg c/o Long Beach Community Concert Association for Jazz Education, California Music Educators Association, Dorothy Lawrence Guess (In memory of Judy Guess) Chandler Pavilion, Disneyland, Newport Beach Jazz Party, West Coast Jazz Jack & Marilyn Kates † Party, and numerous performances at Los Angeles Jazz Institute events. The Mr. & Mrs. Frank Lee (In memory of Elaine Richey) Paul & Jane Lindsey CJO has recorded two compact discs, the latest of which resulted in their 2014 Los Altos United Methodist Church Downbeat Student Music Award win in the graduate college division.
