PAGE 7 SILVER LININGS FROM HUMAN RESOURCES - Adam Edwards

Since our last Silver Lining edition, Luther Memorial Home has had a few staffing changes within its organization and across a variety of departments. We would like to take the time to recognize a few of those individuals: Jeff Chandler was added to our team at LMH back in March of 2019 and serves LMH as the Director of Environmental Services. Jeff has a wealth of experience ranging from agriculture and commodity processing, to mechanical sales and repair. His experience has allowed him to have a seamless transition in to his new role at LMH. Jeff oversees a department of dedicated workers to Jeff Chandler Jessica Moch Samantha Trosen ensure that our facility is safe, functional and com- fortable for our entire residential community. Jessica Moch made an internal move within our organization mid-April and now serves as the Scheduling Coordinator. Jessica works closely with both the Human Resource department and Nursing to achieve all of our staffing needs. Jessica tends to over 110 schedules within our CNA, TA and CMA staffing groups. Jessica brings a wealth of experience to the position and has had an instant impact as she has helped add and solidify the orientation process for all new CNA and TA staff members by providing 1-on-1 training at the end of their orientation process. Samantha Trosen was added to our Social Services department toward the end of May 2019. Samantha previously worked at Altru in Grand Forks, ND as a discharge planner. While Samantha is very new to the facility, she has been able to forge personal and meaningful relationships with our residential com- munity in her short time here. Samantha brings a wealth of experience having worked within the hospital setting and provides the department with a greater understanding of hospital terminology, the admission process, and community resources. We would like to thank all of those who have joined our team here at Lu- ther Memorial Home as we look to continue to provide a high level of personal care and comfort to our residential community, our residents families, and the community as a whole.

PAGE 8 SILVER LININGS Luther Memorial Home 2018 Employee Years of Service Installs New Call Light Awards & Nominees for ND System Long Term Care Association

The installment of a new resident call light system was complet- Caregiver of the Year Award ed in April 2019. This new system replaced an aging outdated sys- tem that served LMH well since 1961. The Provider 790 call sys- tem was installed by DTB, Dynamic Technical Building Systems. This system supports a comprehensive team approach to resident care with team alerts that are received on a mobile device that the care givers carry with them. This enables care givers to stay mobile and be in more direct contact with the residents. Staff are assigned to their residents in teams and notified of resi- dent calls in order of priority over their wireless smart phone devic- es. The resident calls also notify staff at the central nurses stations at the call light console along with lighting the dome light above resident room doors. This system also helps in locating staff. When a CNA or a nurse enter a resident room they are able to push a but- ton that lights the dome light over the door of the room with an amber colored light for the CNA and a green light for the nurse. If other staff is looking for a CNA or nurse they are able to look down the hall and see if they are in a resident room. As we learn more about the capabilities of this system we hope that staff will be able to communicate with each other using the mobile devices to save Years of Service Awards: staff time looking for co-workers to convey information to or ask front row: Sheila Rustvang, Nancy Bjerke, Tara Anderson, for assistance.
