(Asteraceae) from Different Localities Emel H. Yusuf 1,* 1Department of Fruit, Vegetable and Plant Nutraceutical Technology, Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, 37 Chełmońskiego Street, 51-630 Wrocław, Poland *Corresponding Author: [email protected] Abstract Erigeron annuus Pers. is a harmful invasive species to natural flora, although it is used in the treatment of indigestion, hepatitis, lymphadenitis, enteritis, and hematuria in traditional medicine. In this study, E. annuus samples were investigated in terms of total phenolic content, antioxidant activities and invasive features. Aerial parts of E. annuus were collected from Ayder-Çamlıhemşin (Rize), Pazar (Rize), and Trabzon (Turkey). Total phenolic contents, free radical scavenging characteristics against 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and 2,20-azinobis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radicals (ABTS) were analyzed and compared with the collected localities. The invasive feature helps E. annuus to adapt everywhere. However, invasion of the plant is not an issue for medicinal applications except the collecting place of the plant. E. annuus is a lead accumulator, and the plant is seen on roadsides. Thus, the collecting region of the species should be chosen carefully to not obtain the side effects of heavy metals. Keywords: Lead accumulation, Ecology, TPC, DPPH, ABTS Introduction comparing their invasive properties. While the species is used Plant samples found in Neanderthal tombs show that in traditional Chinese medicine to treat indigestion, hepatitis, human-plant relationships go back 50,000 years (Solecki, lymphadenitis, enteritis, and hematuria (Jo et al., 2013), and as 1972).

  • Istanbul Prayer Guide
PRAY THE DISTRICTS OF ISTANBULa prayer guide Step out the door and hear the horns honking, street dogs barking and the call of a local simit* seller bellowing out “Fresh simit! Fresh simit!” A gypsy woman sets up her street display—bright shades of orange and red daisies—and settles down on a short stool with a cup of tea, ready to watch the day go by. A businessman with a newspaper tucked under one arm and a briefcase slung over his shoulder dodges a taxi while crossing the street and also checking the soccer scores on his smart phone. Street cats congregate around a plate of fish that a benevolent neighbor has bestowed. The scented air outside a corner bakery tempts hungry passers-by. This is ISTANBUL. * A simit is a sesame-coated ring of bread In the last two decades the city of Istanbul has experienced explosive growth, pushing its boundaries ever further, swallowing up green space and creating new districts. Each district, or ilce, functions like a small town, with its own government and priorities, all the while remaining a distinct segment of the city of Istanbul. Most tourists visiting Istanbul are romanced by the charm of the old city, once known as Constantinople. They tour the top sites carefully marking attractions off their list: —Hagia Sophia, famed church-turned-mosque-turned-museum —Sultanahmet, the Blue Mosque, exquisitely tiled Muslim place of worship —The Cisterns, underground water system dating to the Byzantine era —Topkapı Palace and Dolmabahçe Palace, homes of the Ottoman sultans Most never see more than one or two of Istanbul’s forty-one districts.

Individuals in most countries around the world drink tea (Camellia sinensis). Tea drinking has attained ceremonial status in many places as a social and medicinal beverage. Although tea is of great importance in Turkey’s economy, little is known about the pattern of genetic variation among the various tea genotypes grown in Turkey. A total of 32 tea genotypes found at the Ataturk Tea and Horticulture Research Institute in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey were sampled. Fluorescent dye amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers and capillary electrophoresis were applied for molecular characterization. The AFLP analysis with six primer combinations generated 835 fragments of which 567 were polymorphic, corresponding to 69.8% polymorphism. Resolving powers of the AFLP primers ranged from 62.6 to 81.9, yielding a total of 437.8; the polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.76 to 0.83, with an average of 0.79.

My analysis focuses on how Hopa Hemşinlis construct their past at the present, as well as the already existing studies on Hemşin history within a discussion of history writing in general. This study also describes the history of Hemşince focusing on the language ideologies held by Hopa Hemşinlis in addition to the processes having impact on the use of Hemşince. In this study, it is depicted that Hemşin history and language are resorted as sites for ethnic identity negotiations and discussions by researchers as well as Hopa Hemşinlis. Although there have been endeavors to attain Turkish and Armenian origins to Hopa Hemşinlis, which still continue today, Hopa Hemşinlis exhibit a strong sense of Hemşinli identity. Keywords: Hopa Hemşinlis, Hemşin history, Hemşince, language ideologies, ethnic identity. • Info Note on Tea Sector in Turkey
SCREENING CHAPTER AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA ITEM 7: STATE AID IN AGRICULTURE Info Note on Tea Sector in Turkey The following note was prepared in order to provide further information regarding tea economy after briefing the situation under the title of “operating aids” in the presentation of the agenda item 7 “State Aids in Agriculture” during the bilateral meeting in January 23, 2006. The format of the several questionnaires were modified and used for the preparation of this information note to provide familiarity and a better reading/understanding. Tea is produced in the Eastern Black Sea Region of 5 provinces (Rize, Trabzon, Artvin, Giresun and Ordu) (see map in Annex I). The region is mountainous, with sharply rising altitude from just Black Sea shores towards inland, leading to limited potential for alternative agricultural production and income opportunities. Tea production is dominant activity through the region and over 60 % of production comes from Rize alone and furthermore, 93 % of agricultural income in Rize very much depends upon tea economy. Turkey has a tariff of 145 % for imports originating from third countries (45 % for 200 tonnes tariff quota for imports originating from EU) while EU has no tariff for tea imports. We need further discussions on this issue when this chapter is opened for actual negotiations. 1 Info Note on Tea Sector in Turkey 1.BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION: TEA Camellia sinensis L.(O) Kuntze. 2. FARMING STRUCTURE (all data are as of 2005 otherwise specified) • Is tea growing limited to certain areas? Tea growing is limited to Eastern Black Sea Region. According to Law No 3092 Tea production areas are determined by Decrees.
