Fond 450. • Scope and Content Documents containing general intelligence on the Turkish army, and on the domestic and foreign policy of the country ; This group consists of dispatches and memorandums from Russian military agents and diplomatic representatives on the domestic political situation in Turkey, Russo-Turkish relations, the strengthening of British influence in Turkey, the organization and state of the Turkish army, fortifications in the Bosporus and Dardanelles, the suppression by Turkish forces of the Druze uprising in Syria in 1852, unrest in Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey’s preparations for wars, and the construction of highways and railways in the country with the involvement of foreign capital. There are some documents of French origin: a plan of the Turkish defensive system in the Black Sea, Bosnia, Albania and Epirus that was submitted by General Vodoncour to Napoleon in 1810; a memorandum from General Guillaume from 1811 on the possibility of invading Turkey via Epirus. Water colors from the late 19th century illustrate the various different uniforms and shoulder-straps worn by the Turkish army. There are also a few photographs of Turkish soldiers from the 1860s to the 1880s, and from the early 20th century. Documents containing geographical, topographical, statistical, ethnographical and hydrographical intelligence on Turkey Geographical and topographical intelligence ; This set of documents consists mostly of maps, plans, and a few atlases and descriptions, of Russian, Western European and (to a lesser extent) Turkish origin, including maps of European and Asiatic Turkey, the Turkish Empire, Asia Minor and Syria. There are maps of Anatolia, Albania, Turkish Armenia, the Turkish provinces of Karaman and Kurdistan, the Pashaliks of Baghdad, Baiazet, Kars, Akhaltsikhe and Erzerum, the Sanjak of Zabah (disputed with Persia), and other districts and provinces of Turkey. There are quite a few city maps, in some cases accompanied by descriptions and drawings, and in particular several maps of Constantinople and its environs. ; Some examples of the documents in this group are: a late-19th-century French album of engravings and descriptions of the Büyük- Dere valley, the Princes Islands, and the Bosporus, including the fortifications in the Bosporus; a map of Turkish territories in Asia showing the borders between Russia and Persia, published in London in 1833; a mid-19th-century Turkish map of the Vilayets of Erzerum and Van showing the mountain chains and peaks; a map of Constantinople with views of the city and the Dardanelles, published in Nuremburg in the early 18th century; a drawing of the palace occupied by Russian envoys in Constantinople, executed in 1783; and a military historical description of the fortress walls of Constantinople written in the early 19th century by the Russian army colonel Perevanov. Statistical and ethnographical intelligence ; This consists mostly of statistical, topographical and ethnographical descriptions of the country and its individual regions. The section also includes some maps and statistical tables on towns, the population, and the number of mules in Turkey. Intelligence on communications ; This section of the collection consists of maps and descriptions of highways, post roads, dirt roads and railways. It also contains a fairly large number of route maps and descriptions of routes across European and Asiatic Turkey. Hydrographical intelligence ; This takes the form of maps and descriptions of the seas, bays, roadsteads, rivers and lakes of Turkey. Intelligence on the straits of the Bosporus and the Dardanelles ; This takes the form of maps and descriptions of the straits of the Bosporus, the Dardanelles and Constantinople, and plans of fortresses and fortifications. Hajiyeva GALIBA Nakhchivan State Univresity, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract One of the sources dealing with the ancient Turkic history are toponyms. Toponymic investigations show that most of the ancient geographical names which have spread in Eurosia, in Central Asia, from North Africa, to Eastern Turkistan even in Siberia and these names were formed before Roman and Byzantine periods. So development of toponymic investigations, study of the history of Turkic peoples and scientific investigation of existing geographical names which keep the history of Turkic peoples have great significance. One of the uninvestigated fields of the Turkic history are geographical names keeping historical facts within are the holy Balkan areas. The toponymic investigations carried on the Balkans show that these territories are the places were the ancient Turkic tribes were firstly settled and possessed. This fact is proved by the Turkic tribe names and by the words of different semantic meaning of the languages of Turkic tribes. The great deal of Balkan geographical names are the names derived out of ethnoniyms thus the names reflecting ancient Turkic tribe names (Astipos//Astepe//Ishtip, Izletdere, Vardar, Sofular, Gilan, Sahsuvar kariyesi, Kosalar village, Tatarli kariyesi, in the Kosova, Uskup, Usturumca, Kumanova, Propishtip, Kochana, Makedonska Kamenika in Makedony, Araz district, Arazli, Azman, Cepine, Coban, Chorlu, Culfalar, Horozlar, Kangirlar, Sakarli, Sungurlar, Karuk, Kaspi, Kaz//Kas, Kazancilar, Kecililer, Kuman, Padarlar, Sofular, Tatar, Uzlar in Bulgaria) show that Balkans historically were Turkic areas. Geographical names are the real witnesses of history. We must pay great attention to the scientific investigations of the geographical names in Balkan states.

    ARTICLE ISSN 2651 - 5210 MODULAR 2019;2(2):21-45 The Cultural Sustainability: Merzifon Anatolia College, Turkey Gizem Özerol1, Aysu Akalın2 Received: 19 November 2019 - Accepted: 17 December 2019 Abstract The article proposes an analysis of the role of American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) during the late Ottoman and the early nationalist (Republican) Turkey and focusses especially on the ABCFM organization and the role of Protestant missionaries, which they succeeded in establishing autonomous schools, hospitals, clinics, orphanages, lodgings and ateliers not only in the capitals, but also in provinces. The American Board began evangelism among Armenians, and the education and the social services became part of the Protestant movement in the Near East. Following efforts to Christianize the nations through evangelism, in the mid of 19th century, Merzifon (Marsovan) province was chosen due to its location in the middle of Anatolia and Merzifon Anatolia College was designed as an important ‘station’ in order to support the American missionary movements. Then, between the years 1886 and 1938, ABCFM built strong connections with Anatolia College in Merzifon to gain a very important strategic position. In the context of the First World War, the function of the Anatolia College buildings has changed for different aims; the military used these buildings as the Artillery Regiment. After the war the ABCFM’s network broke down but its strong contribution to present education in Turkey is inevitable. The site as a heritage is still an active part of the city’s cultural life with some existing buildings of ABCFM supporting culture and education.

Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the records of patients transferred by ambulance helicopter between 2009 and 2012. Medical, demographics, geographic and flight data of the patients were all analyzed. Results: A total of 347 (185 male, 162 female) patients were included in the study. 167 patients (48.4%) aged between 18 and 65 years. In the adult patients, the most common diagnoses were medical conditions in 82 (65.6%) men and 43 (34.4%) women. The number of male and female patients transferred during the summer was 64 (35%) and 50 (30.9%); in autumn, 54 (29.5%) and 34 (21%); in winter, 35 (19.1%) and 44 (27.1%); and in the spring, 30 (16.4%) and 34 (21%), respectively. Conclusion: Transferring patients living far from medical centers by air ambulance Keywords has become common. Plane and helicopter ambulances have become a part of Helicopter ambulance, patient transportation, emergency services. Since evidence was obtained on the outcomes of patients Erzurum affected positively by helicopter transfer, air health transfer services and the number of air ambulances covered by insurance companies have increased recently.

Its course makes a northward convex arch- shaped pattern by fl exure in its central part between Ladik in the east and Kargı in the west. A number of strike-slip basins of dissimilar type and age occur within the NAFS. One of the spatially large basins is the E–W-trending Merzifon- Suluova basin (MS basin), about 55 km long and 22 km wide, located on the southern inner side of the northerly-convex section of the NAFS. Th e MS basin has two infi lls separated from each other by an angular unconformity. Th e older and folded one is exposed along the fault-controlled margins of the basin, and dominantly consists of a Miocene fl uvio- lacustrine sedimentary sequence. Th e younger, nearly horizontal basin infi ll (neotectonic infi ll) consists mainly of Plio– Quaternary conglomerates and sandstone-mudstone alternations of fan-apron deposits, alluvial fan deposits and recent basin fl oor sediments.

    GEPHYRA 8 2011 143–184 Terrance Michael Patrick DUGGAN An interpretation of some unpublished in situ and recorded Rum Seljuk 13th c. external and internal figural relief work on the Belkıs (Aspendos) Palace, Antalya Abstract: This article is divided into four parts. Firstly, it notes the precedent provided by the conversion of the Roman theatre at Bosra in Syria into an Ayyubid Palace, for the conversion of the Roman theater into the Rum Seljuk palace at Belkis–Aspendos and the known extensive use made of Syrian trained architects for important architectural projects by Rum Seljuk Sul- tans in the first half of the 13th c. Secondly, the two bands of Seljuk low relief depictions of fe- lines and a deer on a series of re–carved Roman limestone blocks on the exterior wall by the door leading to the southern köşk–pavilion erected above the parados and upon the lintel over this door, discovered by the author in 2007, extending over a length of nearly 10 m are de- scribed and the deliberate pecking of the surface of these low relief depictions it is suggested, was to provide bonding for applied painted stucco carved relief–work that completed this relief work on the exterior palace facade. The third section describes the painted Seljuk tympanum relief sculpture made of stucco plaster that concealed the Roman relief carving of Dionysus in the pediment of the sceanae frons in the 13th c. A sculptural relief depiction of a nude female figure which was fortunately recorded by Charles Texier early in the 19th c.
