This year, pathologists and scientists from all over the world celebrate the 30th anniversary of ECP – while getting updated on all aspects of diagnostic and molecular pathology. The theme for the ECP 2018, “Pathology: Path to Precision medicine” highlights Pathology as the cornerstone of pre- Dina Tiniakos cision medicine and underlines the central role of the pa- thologist in the multidisciplinary teams that guide patient management in the 21st century. Pathologists collaborating with molecular biologists, geneticists, bioinformaticians, and information technologists provide accurate diagnoses, prog- nostic and predictive information essential for treatment deci- sions tailored to the individual patient. ECP 2018 has organ-based sessions prepared by the ESP working groups, joint sessions with other pathology and clinical scientifi c societies, trainee-led sessions, and special sessions focusing on advances in molecular and digital pa- thology, quality assessment, education, histotechnology and José Ignacio López public awareness. Keynote lectures, as every year, are the highlight of the pro- gramme with eminent colleagues enlightening us on differ- ent aspects of pathology and beyond. The ECP 2018 oral free paper and best poster sessions are a great platform to present and discuss exciting new translational research in all areas of pathology, while the challenging diagnosis of rare entities is showcased in poster sessions. Ince, UK 6 ECP 2018 · Bilbao Keynote Speakers e Manuel Serrano (Spain) Manuel Serrano obtained his PhD in 1991, at the University of Madrid (UAM). From 1991 to 1996, Serrano worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the team of David Beach in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY. During this period, Serrano made his most important discovery with the identification and characterization of the gene p16, one of the most important genes for anti-cancer protection and a key inducer of cellu- lar senescence. Serrano returned to Spain in 1997 to lead a research group, first at the National Center of Biotechnology (CNB), and then, from 2003 to 2017, at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), both in Madrid. In 2017, Serrano moved to the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), in Barcelona. Manuel Serrano is internationally recognized in the field of tumour suppression and aging. In addition to the discovery of p16, one of his main discoveries has been the identification of cel- lular senescence as a main anti-oncogenic response. The Serrano team was also pioneer in the generation of genetically-modifed long-lived mice resistant to damage and cancer, through the regulated enhancement of the key tumour suppressors p53 and p16. Recently, his laboratory has also shown that cellular senescence participates in several tissue remodeling processes during embryo development. During the last years, the research interests

Ramzy A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Faculty of Music, University of Toronto 2014 This dissertation explores Coptic Orthodox political (dis)engagement through song, particularly as it is expressed through the colloquial Arabic genre of taratil. Through ethnographic and archival research, I assess the genre's recurring tropes of martyrdom, sacrifice, willful withdrawal, and death as emerging markers of community legitimacy and agency in Egypt's political landscape before and following the January 25th uprising in 2011. Specifically, I explore how Copts actively perform as well as sing a pious and modern citizenry through negations of death and a heavenly afterlife. How do they navigate the convergences and contradictions of belonging to a nation as minority Christian citizens among a Muslim majority while feeling that they have little real civic agency? Through a number of case studies, I trace the discursive logics of “modernizing” religion into easily tangible practices of belonging to possess a heavenly as well as an earthly nation. I begin with Sunday Schools in the predominately Christian and middle-class neighborhood of Shubra where educators made the poetry of the late Coptic Patriarch, Pope Shenouda III, into taratil and drew on their potentials of death and withdrawal to reform a Christian moral interiority and to teach a modern and pious Coptic citizenry.

Members of the diplomatic staff are the members of the staff of the mission having diplomatic rank. These persons, with the exception of those identified by asterisks, enjoy full immunity under provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Pertinent provisions of the Convention include the following: Article 29 The person of a diplomatic agent shall be inviolable. He shall not be liable to any form of arrest or detention. The receiving State shall treat him with due respect and shall take all appropriate steps to prevent any attack on his person, freedom, or dignity. Article 31 A diplomatic agent shall enjoy immunity from the criminal jurisdiction of the receiving State. He shall also enjoy immunity from its civil and administrative jurisdiction, except in the case of: (a) a real action relating to private immovable property situated in the territory of the receiving State, unless he holds it on behalf of the sending State for the purposes of the mission; (b) an action relating to succession in which the diplomatic agent is involved as an executor, administrator, heir or legatee as a private person and not on behalf of the sending State; (c) an action relating to any professional or commercial activity exercised by the diplomatic agent in the receiving State outside of his official functions. -- A diplomatic agent’s family members are entitled to the same immunities unless they are United States Nationals.

Toward this end, I situate my comparative political theory within the emerging genre of “political ontology,” which I deploy as an analytical device. More specifically, I seek to demonstrate that the shifting attitudes toward democracy over time among contemporary Muslim thinkers can be better grasped by approaching each of the selected thinkers’ political theories as a constellation of ontological, ethical, and political dimensions. Accordingly, the first part presents several new themes that have received substantial interest in recent political theory. I dedicate each chapter to a specific genre of political ontology, political theology, and radical democracy. Having laid the ground for my ontological narrative, the second part analyzes the political theories of Jamaladdin Afghani (d. 1897), Sayyid Qutb (d. 1966), Fazlur Rahman (d. 1985), and such current liberal Muslim thinkers as Abdelwahab El-Affendi, Khaled Abou El Fadl, Nader Hashemi, and Abdullahi An-Na‘im. While I analyze their political theories as ontopolitical constellations, I seek to show that each one’s approach to democracy or self- government is prefigured by his conception of God as well as how they conceive of the relationship between the Muslim self and the “other,” the rest of creation, and the revealed text (viz., the Qur’an).

Prof. Hüseyin Alptekin February 2015, 136 pages Kurdish issue has been one of the most important and problematic topics in Turkish politics. Since the foundation of the Turkish Republic, the official policy of the state has been built on propagation of secularism and Turkish nationalism for the foundation and continuation of a homogeneous nation-state. Therefore ethnic as well as religious groups have been suppressed with both violent and nonviolent methods for decades. Kurdish Islamists have been the greatest victims of such social engineering and suppression. Until the 1990s some manifestations of Kurdish Islamists appeared time to time. Nonetheless, with Kurdish Hezbollah’s operations, Kurdish Islamism’s political formation emerged. Hezbollah appealed to violence and adopted armed struggle and then was abolished and went underground in the early 2000s. However, its mass base has continued to redefine and reorganize themselves with non-governmental organizations and social platforms. After the ban on the community’s most important social organization Mustazaflar Hareketi, it decided to carry its activities to the formal political sphere.
